'05 OH Safety Adam Myers-White (Tennessee signee)

I don't have a problem with this at all. We offered he didn't accept... now we pulled the offer. If he verbaled (and kept his grades/ didn't get in trouble with the law), I'm sure the staff would have kept the verbal Agreement.

This might be a wake up call to other kids that might be playing games... an offer doesn't mean it is good until you choose where you want to go play. It is good until you say yes to the bucks or until the coaches go for a different kid.

You can verbal and still take visits (at least to most schools), so if he really wanted to be a buckeye he had his chance. With the bad ankle/season, and the poor showing at camp, I would say he is the reason the offer was pulled not that the coaches had it out for him.

It's too bad this happend to him (if he really did like the bucks), but at least he has several months (read half a year) to figure out where he wants to go... as far as I'm concerned if this is true, it is on the up and up (but then again I also ten to give the benefit of the doubt to the coaches)...

Let's see, one of the top players from Ohio, Gary thinks he will be a Buckeye, but he is considering USC and will decide late.

I can't do another Fred Davis.
your crystal ball tried to tell you

If his offer was indeed retracted...

if could conjure up all sorts of thoughts like:

Derrick Williams?

Bright or Henderson?

Sledge?

fellas we weren't as sure we were doing so well...
and with the # of schollies shrinking...
the coaches have to get more selective...
and only go for those that express mutual respect and interest...

This isn't the first time a Skollie has been "yanked" (hate that word) and it won't be the last. Coach Tressel knows what he's doing far better than any of us and he had good reason. Thats all we need to know. The kids a GREAT kid and has alot of promise and will do well anywhere he goes. For all you who've been recruited, you should remember what its like being 18 and 19 and everybody wants you. Its a great feeling. I know 99.99% of you'd go to USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Miami, and even a few would sneak into TSUNs' backdoor of the pit of the stadium if they called and said come on down for a game.... just too see what its like ... give the kid a break and let him enjoy it.

If you look at logic you'd see we have very few scholorships left and a few BIG needs (RB and LB) and so coach Tressel and his crew have got to concentrate on those spots... maybe AMW was or wasn't interested... all
speculation. In the end it was best for both parties. SUPPORT your BUCKEYES and support a great kid wherever he goes !!!! Good Luck AMW , your an Ohio kid and we'll be supporting you wherever you are !!! GO BUCKEYES !!

Lots of interesting speculation. The one line of reasoning I have trouble with is that we have bigger fish to fry. Our experience the past few years should make it very clear that nothing is certain until signing day - or later (Richard Washington, Darius Walker, Leon Hart, Turk McBride). Regardless of what Justin King, Callahan Bright or anyone else may be saying I can't see closing the door on a kid because the room is full until the ink is dry.

If there were games being played, attitude problems, grade issues, etc combined with the potential for other prospects - that makes sense.

Stormin,

Good post. And not to nitpick, but there is a big difference between yanking a scholarship and yanking an unaccepted offer.

As for AMW, if the Bucks were really doing it to free up scholarships for other positions, then why wouldn't they pull Oatis' offer as well? I could see that logic if they took the first safety to commit then pulled the other offers. I think it has more to do with AMW himself rather than just needing to offer other positions.

the thing about oatis is that he is taking his visits in season and will probably have a choice made sometime in november. amw isnt even going to start taking visits until after the season. i'm guessing by the time AMW even gets done with visits, the staff will have a pretty good idea of where their remining offers are going.

Once again I agree with tsteele...my theory is that the staff was not willing to wait on a kid that was not exactly blowing people out of the water with his camps and games early this year, injuries notwithstanding. Given the scarcity of 'ships this year, it seems like the staff is going to invest the most time and energy in the kids that show more interest than your prototypical "Here's my top 5...I will visit them all...I have no leader...I will decide in February."-type recruit...

good post wadc...

I would speculate that it was a combination of his interest, his performance so far, the # of scholarships and the philosphy of the coaches regarding this recruiting class, also the depth currently on the team at his position, maybe they felt they needed that offer to bring in a kid who can play a position of need (running back?)....another thing is that they did not pull his scholie, they pulled the offer of a scholarship and that is a big difference and happens every year in every major program.

The reality of recruiting has forced major programs to rethink their strategy regarding signing day verbals, my hunch is that they know that scholarship will be given to someone who is very decided on OSU early in the process, instead of waiting until the final day and not choosing OSU.

I believe in coach T and his staff and all this is speculation and we will never know the whole story, but Adam will not be hurt by this, he has his visits to take and time to decide and now OSU can go in a different direction.

This is only MY thinking, I don't have any info to back up my speculation. Again no one else has posted this that I've seen and I don't have any insider info. Please don't perceive this as a rumor because I'm only SPECULATING!!!!!!

Could the problem here be due to $$$$ (U$C and Tenne$$e)
