Have you seen Florida State in the playoffs since then? And they at least managed to put points on the board.
If the ACC champion was shut out *twice* in a row in the CFB playoffs by the Big Ten and SEC champions, I can guarantee you the committee would think long and hard before putting them...
Agree - but other Big Ten teams with less talented corners, equally young LBs, and no future top 3 pick have somehow managed to put defenses on the field ranked much higher than 67th.
Lack of talent and youth may be why we're not Top 10, but coaching is why we're 67th
1 good bowl season isn't enough to overcome 2 years of being shut-out. Again, we're the only conference that has been shut-out in the CFP. Even Washington managed to put points on the board against Alabama. The fact that we did it TWICE is huge.
What does it say to the committee when an Ohio...
Not going to argue as I think you're missing my point entirely.
The players aren't top 10 caliber, but they're also certainly not 67th caliber.
We had a system that worked for years. That system has been disrupted with the successive losses of Ash/Fickell/Coombs. Grinch and Johnson are good...
At the end of the day, if we didn't have a dogshit **~30 point** loss to Purdue, or a 1 point victory against a mediocre Maryland team barely 2 weeks ago, we wouldn't be in this situation.
Only 1 conference has the ignominy of having their conference representative completely shut-out in the...
I agree that the pool of players isn't up to our usual Top 10 standards... but they definitely should not be the 67th ranked defense. Given our recruiting, there's no way there are 66 "more talented" defenses in the country.
To put it into perspective, we're exactly 1 place ahead of Ohio...
WSU's defense has declined slightly since Grinch left (#16 -> #32).
Ours has declined significantly since Grinch and Taver Johnson got here (#9 -> #67), as Billy Davis joined in 2017.
TOTAL DEFENSE, WSU
2015 #84
2016 #62 (+Grinch)
2017 #16 (Grinch)
2018 #32 (-Grinch)
TOTAL DEFENSE, OSU

Haskins carried this team for 6 games thus far despite absolute piss OL and defensive play. He has an off-game and people are saying he's 'just looking to get paid' ? - what the hell
Chances of Urban actually firing the guy who was best man at his wedding?
Saban wins without parallel because he puts winning before all else (see the title game last year). Urban does not (see OSU vs. Clemson).
I'm not going to get my hopes up on seeing either Davis or Studrawa leave
The regression of our OL stings even more with the rapid resurgence of scUM's OL under Warinner.
Color me very concerned for The Game this year, unless Studrawa turns it around.
