Your eyes do not deceive you. Yes, that is a smiling Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh together, in a selfie taken by ESPN personality Chris Fowler. These are the kind of things that happen when the stars come together for a good cause. Meyer and Harbaugh, in addition to several other A-list personalities, were in attendance for Dick Vitale’s event for pediatric cancer research Friday night. This is excellent. Thank you for sharing, Chris!Filed under: Uncategorized Tagged: Gone Viral

Starting pitcher Tanner Tully was lights-out for the Buckeyes, who got a much-needed win against the Wolverines.

In a huge spot, Ohio State got exactly what it needed on Friday night, holding on to beat Michigan 3-2 to start off the final weekend home series of the season. With the victory, the Buckeyes improved to 11-8 in Big Ten play and inched closer to securing a berth in the conference tournament.

This game belonged to Ohio State starter Tanner Tully, who looked every bit the ace of the staff that he's grown into as he picked up his fourth consecutive quality start. Tully tossed eight innings of one run ball, scattering five hits and striking out eight in improving to 7-3 on the season.

Wolverines' starter Brett Adcock had one rough inning, giving up all three of his earned runs in the fifth, and took the loss. For the game, the lefty went 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and walking four while striking out nine.

The offense for the Buckeyes was delivered by their two co-captains. Jalen Washington homered and Nick Sergakis drove in a pair with a single, which was all Tully needed.

Michigan took the early 1-0 lead thanks to a Tully wild pitch. Jonathan Englemann doubled with one out in the top of the second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly, and came plateward when a breaking ball in the dirt got away from Buckeye catcher Jalen Washington.

Adcock worked out of trouble in the second and remained in control into the fifth. That's when Washington belted his second homer of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the game at one.

Ohio State wasn't done in the inning, tacking on two more to take a 3-1 lead. After the Washington homer, Brady Cherry doubled into the left field corner and Tre Gantt walked. Both runners advanced a base on an Adcock balk, setting up Sergakis to deliver a two-run single to center.

From there, Tully was lights out. At one point, the lefty set down 16 Wolverines in a row, commanding the strike zone and never allowing the maize and blue to get anything going.

Michael Horejsei struck out the first batter of the ninth inning, and Yianni Pavlopoulos relieved him to close things out, but things got interesting.

Pavlopoulos allowed a run and put both the tying and winning runs on base with two outs, but a highlight reel diving catch by Troy Montgomery in center field ended the game and preserved the win. It was the 11th save of the season for Pavlopoulos.

As the losers of the spring game back in April, the Scarlet team had to lay down some mulch in a prominent part of campus

"The Buckeyes' football team – at least half of them – are back to work in Columbus...doing yard work."

Eric Sager, Eleven Warriors

As a recent tradition, the losing side of the spring game has to put down fresh mulch on Buckeye Grove – the well known spot next to the Shoe that houses buckeye trees for all the All-American selections.

With the Scarlet team losing to the Gray team back on April 16, 28-17, it was time for them to get to work (or lack thereof).

Last week, Pat Elflein was inside the Shoe collecting his degree from Ohio State. Today, he was out movin' mulch.

Will Smith's Buckeye tree got some decorations. Smith was recently shot and killed in New Orleans in early April.

""You won’t play forever," they said. "Start making plans for the future now instead of later," they warned us."

Na'il Diggs, The Cauldron

You here the story time and time again: Professional athletes squandering their money from their pro days. But what happens when the athlete isn't the solely responsible for the financial demise?

In a piece written by former NFLer Na'il Diggs, he talked about how the financial institutions that were supposed to guide him, instead took advantage of him.

From buying a house when the housing market was about to pop, to the impending high mortgage rates, Diggs talks about the headache of dealing with the financial side of being an athlete – while at the same time, worrying about a) how many more playing days one has left and b) saving money for the future.

It's a riveting read, and opens your eyes to the fact that athletes are taken advantage of.

Look at the case of Columbus Blue Jacket Jack Johnson. It wasn't a bank that took advantage of him; it was his own parents.

Tournament Play Begins

For Buckeyes women's tennis, it's time for the NCAA Tournament. On Friday, the No.4 seeded Buckeyes hosted the opening round of the tournament. While UCLA and Notre Dame duked it out earlier in the morning, the Buckeyes had the task of taking on Youngstown State.

The Buckeyes jumped out to a 1-0 lead, and continued to not look back.

With the 4-0 win, Ohio State will play back at home on Saturday against UCLA at 4 p.m. The winner of that contest will move onto the Round of 16.

Ohio State is all over the place in post-spring Top 25s. With all of their roster losses, should we consider Ohio State a top ten team? The Big Ten favorite? Something else? Our Luke Zimermann broke it down on the LGHL Facebook page earlier today. You can watch the full video above.

The Buckeyes are in need of a series win against their biggest rival to solidify their Big Ten tournament chances.

There are just six games remaining on the Big Ten schedule for Ohio State. Two weekend series that will determine if the Buckeyes make the trip to Omaha for the conference tournament. Currently in a tie for sixth place in the standings, head coach Greg Beals and his squad can ill afford to turn in any poor performances the rest of the way.

At 10-8, Ohio State is even with both Maryland and Penn State. The Terrapins swept the Buckeyes in College Park in early April, and so hold the tiebreaker. Penn State was not on this year's schedule.

Just a game behind, and one spot out of the Big Ten tourney, is a 9-9 Illinois team who own a series win over Ohio State. A game behind them is Iowa, the team the Buckeyes took two of three from last weekend. To say things are tight heading into the penultimate series of the regular season wouldn't do the situation justice.

Ohio State must win. It's that simple. If the scarlet and gray wants to make a trip to the postseason, a series win this weekend is imperative. And what would a must-win scenario be without the Buckeyes' archrival Michigan being in the opposing dugout?

A 10-2 win over nationally-ranked Florida Atlantic on Wednesday was a template for how Ohio State needs to finish out. There were three home runs, savvy at-bats and baserunning, and solid pitching and defense. Every starter reached base at least once, and all but one scored a run. Five pitchers combined to yield just six hits.

It was the kind of complete all-around performance it will take to beat a Wolverines' squad that has spent the majority of the season in the national polls.

Michigan Wolverines (34-13, 12-5 in Big Ten play)

Michigan began the season in the top 25, and head coach Erik Bakich's team has played like a top-caliber team for most of the season. The Wolverines pound the baseball at the plate and the strike zone on the mound among the best the Big Ten has to offer. Currently sitting in a tie for second in the conference, a series win for Ohio State will be no small task.

The maize and blue are second in the conference in hitting with a team batting average of .316, and take the top spot in on-base percentage and runs scored. Michigan scores nearly seven runs per game, a full run better than the Buckeyes, and boasts six regulars with an average above .300.

Sophomore shortstop Jake Bivens has been tearing up opposing pitchers all season, raking at a .387 clip, leading the Big Ten with 75 hits, and placing second with 49 runs scored from the leadoff spot.

The 3-4-5-6 spots in the lineup for the Wolverines are really going to present a challenge for Ohio State's pitching staff, as there aren't any glaring holes. Junior right fielder Carmen Benedetti, one of the top draft prospects in the conference, hits at a .343 clip, leads the team with 18 doubles, and sports a .995 OPS.

Behind Benedetti, junior catcher Harrison Wenson leads the Big Ten with 53 RBIs and paces his team with six home runs, senior center fielder Cody Bruder hits .374 and is second in the conference with 44 RBIs, and sophomore first baseman Drew Lugbauer has five homers and 40 driven in. All three own an OPS north of .900.

So keeping Michigan off the board will not be easy. But neither will scoring against them. The Wolverines' hurlers limit the opposition to a Big Ten-best .229 batting average and have struck out a conference-high 395 while yielding under four runs per game.

The weekend rotation is experienced, and starts with junior Brett Adcock, who is 6-3 with a 2.88 earned run average in 59.1 innings of work. The lefty has held opponents to a .170 batting average and sports a menacing 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

Joining Adcock are fellow southpaws Oliver Jaskie and Evan Hill. Jaskie, a sophomore, leads the team with seven wins and 63.1 innings pitched. He allows just a .213 batting average against and has a WHIP of 1.20.

Hill, the only senior among the group, is 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA, and averages just under one strikeout per inning. His .279 opponents' batting average is the only seeming weak spot in a starting rotation that has been lights out since February.

As if the starters weren't daunting enough, the bullpen may be even better. Among the top four relievers in appearances for Bakich, none yields a batting average over .254 to opponents, and collectively they average better than a strikeout per inning. Late leads do not often disappear against this group.

The pressure will be on Ohio State this weekend in Columbus. Michigan is a virtual lock for the Big Ten tournament, and is very likely headed to the NCAA tourney as well. Given the balance of the Wolverines' team, pulling out a series win would rank among the finest achievements for the Buckeyes all season. It would also help them solidify their own spot in the postseason.

Connor-150x150.jpg

With the upcoming summer is the promise of so much. There’s baseball games, professional tennis, golf, swimming … and oh yeah – soccer.

The World Cup will be upon us before we know it. Country eliminations will devastate fans. But in America we all stay hopeful, simply waiting for the day when we steal the thunder from the rest of the world and “their” sport.

The Ohio State University’s soccer season is complete. They were 13-7-3 overall. In Conference they were 5-2-1. At Home they were an impressive 10-2 while Away they were less impressive, 3-5-1. They began their Spring Competition in March against the likes of the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.

Ahh! Soccer.

There are many names that rise to the occasion of mention to Making the List. But today we shall take another path. The one name that surfaces in my mind first was a walk on. He was not a highly recruited star from high school. He isn’t anywhere to be found in the record books for the Buckeyes either.

Connor Senn joined the Buckeye squad, as the above mentioned walk-on. In 2001 he was impressive enough to make the team – earning a spot as a rookie starter on a veteran team that ended the year with a 10-7-2 record, being 1-4-1 in Conference action.

Coach John Bluem would find out just how good his team was in 2001. They would eventually make their second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. They harvested their highest national ranking in program history—No. 10 in the NSCAA poll—and on Oct. 28 handed then-No. 5 St. John’s its first loss of the season, 3-2 in double overtime. Success wasn’t so grand though. On Sept. 26, 2001 following a road match with Akron that ended in Ohio State’s first loss of the season, the Buckeyes suffered something more devastating than a game loss. Lance Connor Senn, died that night after collapsing during the match. He had been suffering from a congenital heart defect. Following a moving memorial service attended by family, friends, members of the athletic department staff and the men’s and women’s soccer teams, the Buckeyes dedicated the remainder of their season to Connor’s memory. Although Ohio State was unable to advance past the first round of NCAA’s, falling 2-1 to American, several Buckeyes received postseason awards. Four earned All-Big Ten honors.

Connor never scored a point for the Buckeyes, but in hindsight, that is irrelevant. He was the spirit of what we Buckeyes propel ourselves to be. And that is the underdog that prevails to greater heights. Connor did precisely that. In his memory his family and OSU have set up The Connor Senn Research and Symposium Fund on Congenital Heart Disease in Athletes.

Connor was a great Buckeye that lived his dream as he wanted. In that alone we are inspired. Here’s looking up at you kid!

“ Hell, there are no rules here – we’re trying to accomplish something…” ~ Thomas Edison

Leave it to Thomas Edison, an Ohioan and considered “The Father Of Invention”, to appropriately summarize the goals for the 2016 Ohio State football team. No rules – just accomplish something.

“Something” is a pretty vague and open concept. Considering how much talent Ohio State lost to graduation and the NFL Draft, considering how I have written throughout spring practice about how 44 players on Ohio State’s roster are either redshirt freshmen or true freshmen…Damn right, Mr. Edison. There are no rules. Ohio State fans are just looking to see what this team can accomplish against a much tougher schedule in 2016 than 2015, with tremendously talented, yet inexperienced, players.

**

Bowling Green Falcons (Game 1)

2016 OSU Opponent Ranking: 11 out of 12

Players Recruited By Ohio State: N/A. To the best of my knowledge, there are no players on Bowling Green’s roster that Ohio State actively recruited or offered a scholarship. More on this below, but that is always something to be on alert against, whenever Ohio State plays another Ohio-based opponent.

Game Date: September 3, 2016

Kickoff Time: TBD

Location: Ohio Stadium

Rationale For The Ranking: Bowling Green is led by first year head coach Mike Jinks. Jinks comes to Bowling Green from Texas Tech, where he served as the associate head coach/running backs coach for Texas Tech. Just as I predict with Tulsa in game two, look for Bowling Green to come into Ohio Stadium, trying to run an uptempo offense, comparable to what Texas Tech or Baylor traditionally do.

Prediction: Any time Ohio State plays another Ohio-based opponent, there is always some concern. Remember the scare Toledo put into Ohio State, back in 2011? As written up above, there are players on Bowling Green’s roster that did not receive an Ohio State offer, and that perceived slight, fairly or unfairly, always seems to give that team a slight edge psychologically. Throw in the concerns that the Ohio State players may be taking this game lightly, and that is why I have listed Bowling Green eleventh out of the twelve scheduled opponents Ohio State will face in 2016.

Considering the depth and talent Ohio State has all across the board, no matter how inexperienced, as well as what should be a close to sellout crowd in Ohio Stadium for the 2016 season opener, look for Ohio State to come out with a little more intensity and fire than Bowling Green can match. This one will be entertaining for the offensive styles of play from both teams, but Ohio State should be able to have a comfortable lead by halftime.

Previous Rankings:
12 – Tulsa

This current scheduled matchup will be the third time that the Buckeyes and Penguins have played (all in Columbus). The most recent matchup came on Jan. 31, 2015 with the Buckeyes prevailing, 7-0. The Penguins also lost in the first match on Feb. 4, 2014, 4-0.

Andrea Ballinger – FR – Recorded her first Buckeye win in September in the Baylor Tournament.

Gabriella De Santis – JR – is 42-26 in singles & has 49 wins in doubles in her Buckeye career.

Francesca Di Lorenzo – FR – Captured the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships title, the first national title in Buckeye women’s tennis history. She is currently seated # 3 in the singles matchups in this 2016 NCAA Tournament. She – no doubt – is the star on this roster.

Nicole Flowers – RS SR – has 41 singles & 17 doubles victories thus far in her Buckeye career.

Miho Kowase – JR – is 53-21 in singles & 51-20 in doubles in her career in Columbus. Along with Anna Sanford she is an at-large-bid in the Doubles for this National Tournament.

Sandy Niehaus – JR – has a 58-16 singles & 56-19 in doubles record as a Buckeye.

Grainne O’Neill – SR – has 51 singles & 47 doubles victories in her Buckeyes career.

Anna Sanford – SO – has a 21-17 singles mark & 27-14 doubles mark thus far as a Buckeye. She is partnered with Miho Kowase as an at-large-bid in Doubles for this National Tournament.

Olivia Sneed – SO – has 18 victories in singles & 17 in doubles as a Buckeye.

The Buckeyes are by far the stronger team. Unquestionably this will be their match to lose. But on the strengths of Di Lorenzo, Kowase & Sanford – do not anticipate on anything other than a win here. They will be moving on to the second round against either Notre Dame or UCLA (for the sake of predicting I will say the Fighting Irish). I personally look for them to be heading into the Round of 16.

You can bet Coach Schaub will settle for nothing less.

GO BUCKEYES!!

Ohio State's pursuit has extended into the 2018 class and all bets are off as many of the nation's elite are already considering the Buckeyes.

Urban Meyer and staff waste zero time when it comes to recruiting. Nationally, they are easily known as one of the elite programs when it comes to football and beyond. While 2017 has been the class of talk, lately, 2018 has seen a rapid increase in exposure as Ohio State has extended offers to many of the early top prospects in the 2018 class. With as well as Urban has recruited nationally in just the few years he's been in Columbus, 2018 will be no different as several top 5-star and 4-star prospects will look to make Ohio State their home.

Simpson lands Buckeye offer

The "Slobs" as they call themselves are Ohio State's offensive line and have been a unit that has reached extreme levels including first round NFL Draft success. While the guys in the trenches in Columbus continue to see success, the coaching staff has been on the road looking to keep that offensive line success going on into the future. In doing so, yesterday, via his twitter account, Darrell Simpson (Justin, Texas / Northwest) announced he was the latest potential Slob to earn a Buckeye offer.

Standing at 6 feet 7 inches and 330 pounds, Darrell's size alone is enough to turn heads. It's easy to see why the Ohio State staff extended an offer to this 2018 offensive tackle. Already a composite 4-star prospect according to 247sports, Darrell currently holds an impressive list of eleven offers. Other schools not named Ohio State that have sent Simpson an offer include Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas A&M to name a few.

Since he's currently a high school sophomore, his recruitment process has yet to hit its peak. Considering the attention he is already receiving, the Buckeyes did well in getting to him this early. As things stand right now, all signs point to Simpson staying home and heading to College Station to play for the Texas A&M Aggies, according to the 247sports crystal ball predictions.

But again, there's more than a long way to go before his national signing day comes.

Grimes still feeling OSU

This long coveted Southern Florida receiver really needs no introduction. However, Trevon Grimes (Fort Lauderdale / St.Thomas Aquinas) is certainly worth the time. The 5-star prospect has long thought to be a strong Buckeye lean and yesterday in an interview with rivals.com's Kevin Noon, Ohio State fans have to be feeling pretty good about where things stand for Grimes and the Buckeyes.

So good in fact, Grimes was quoted as saying: "they are in the lead enough to where they shouldn't have any worries, I will put it that way". Obviously, every Buckeye fan including the head man, Urban Meyer should be pumping their fists in regards to this news.

While the goal is still to get Trevon and family up to Columbus this summer, things look pretty good right now in terms of making that happen. If Trevon does indeed head back to campus for a visit with his family, this could be the deciding factor that Grimes will need to cement his place in the wide receiver haul for the 2017 class. A key piece that should be a part of a very solid puzzle.

To see the full interview with Trevon, take a look at the link below.

I don't know a lot of things, but I know that #OhioState fans are going to like the interview @Kevin_Noon just did w/ 5* WR Trevon Grimes.

Greatest collection of offensive weapons EVER?

Really trying hard not to count my chickens but the possibility of stacking elite skills guys like cord wood in 3 classes is mind blowing. I used 3 classes because of the increased chances of them all being on the team at the same time. This is simply incredible and if it were to come together you would have to wonder if on paper it's the greatest 3 class run of offensive firepower ever.

Names like:

WR & Pivot: McCall, Victor, Mack, Grimes, Lindsey, Harris, Gill, "Blue" Smith, (+2018 WR)
TE: Hausman, Farrell, Hawkins, (+2018 TE)
RB: Williams, Dobbins, Akers, Slade
QB: Haskins, Clark, Jurkovec or Jones

**The thing about thinking about this list is how many unknowns will surface for '18 class. Just knowing the '18 QB will likely be a stud and Gill looking likely for '18 makes you realize............this train isn't slowing down.

And I don't even have the energy to list the potential O Line we are looking at to let these studs go to work.

YIKES. Look at that list and go ahead and try not to drool. I dare ya. We are a little over half way there by the way and ALL of these guys are realistic. Yeah......drool.

The Buckeyes rode strong pitching and timely hitting to shut out Rutgers 5-0 in the opening game of the B1G Softball Tournament on Thursday. Lena Springer pitched a 4 hit masterpiece in going the full 7 innings for the complete game win. She was in control of the game all afternoon. She struck out 5 Scarlet Knights and did not walk a batter. Not putting opposing runners on base is important, particularly in the one-and-done post season; Springer was exceptional.

Although the Buckeyes only touched up Rutgers starter Dresden Maddox for 6 hits, when you get the hits is crucial. Leading 1-0, the Buckeyes scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning when Maddy McIntyre homered (with Cammi Prantl on second base) to move their lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Prantl homered, scoring Taylor White in front of her to extend the Ohio State lead to 5-0. With only two more Rutgers at-bats remaining and Springer firmly in control of the game, the Prantl home run in effect iced the game for the Buckeyes.

This was an interesting “mixed” offense for Ohio State. Although McIntyre and Prantl provided the ‘long ball (Prantl also hit a double in the game) the Buckeyes helped their cause with ‘small ball’. Ohio State scored their first run (2nd inning) when Ashley Goodwin scored from third when Becca Gavin reached 1st base on an infield single. When White scored ahead of Prantl’s hone run, she had reached base by beating out a bunt.

For context, this was the 2nd time the Buckeyes shut out the Scarlet Knights this season, winning 10-0 a month ago. The shutout was the fist win of a three game sweep by the Buckeyes in Piscataway. It was a good weekend.

Up next is 3rd seeded Northwestern (25-25, 15-8). This will be the first meeting this season between the 6th seeded Buckeyes (33-17-1, 13-9-1). The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 noon (Eastern) and will televised on BTN.

Go Buckeyes!

What areas does Urban Meyer have to address for Ohio State heading into the 2016 season?

With 12 players drafted, Ohio State will have plenty of holes to fill heading into the 2016 season.

"Now, Meyer faces some big challenges next season as he looks to get back on top in the Big Ten. Yes, he will have some building blocks for his fifth squad, headed by QB J.T. Barrett. But questions loom."

- Tom Dienhart, BTN.com

Last offseason the biggest question for Urban Meyer coming off of Ohio State winning the College Football Playoff was who would start at quarterback for the Buckeyes in 2015. While Meyer won't have to deal with figuring out who his quarterback will be in 2016, he still will have plenty of other areas where he'll have to decide who deserves to start. With 12 players being drafted recently in the NFL Draft, there are plenty of positions up for grabs. The biggest area of concern for Meyer has to be in the defensive backfield, where Eli Apple, Vonn Bell, and Tyvis Powell all left for the NFL following the 2015 season. Gareon Conley is the lone returning starter among the defensive backs, and there have already been plenty of players trying to make their case to take over those three spots.

Along with the defensive backs, there are plenty of spots up for grabs among the wide receivers. Michael Thomas and Braxton Miller are gone, but Ohio State will have Noah Brown and Corey Smith back from injuries. The defensive line will also need a need a number of players to step up now that Joey Bosa, Adolphus Washington, and Tommy Schutt have moved on. Ohio State will also have to try and find a way to replace running back Ezekiel Elliott, but it likely won't happen with just one player. Bri'onte Dunn, Mike Weber, and Antonio Williams will all have their shot to try and fill the shoes of Elliott. At least Meyer has plenty of experience in dealing with questions like this, and he is an expert at bringing in quality talent to fill the departures.

"There's just a right way and a wrong way to do it. When you first leave a job it's not the right thing to do to go back and try to recruit players. That's a gentleman's agreement when you leave a place. That's no different than any job I've ever been at. Again, not everybody sees it that way, but that's the way I've operated."

- Rutgers head coach Chris Ash via Dan Duggan, NJ.com

Former Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash took the Rutgers head coaching job in early December, and has quite a task ahead of him as he tries to turn around the football program of the Scarlet Knights. Even though Ash recruited some of the best players in the country for Urban Meyer's defense, he isn't trying to get those players to head to Piscataway with him. While there isn't any official "gentleman's agreement" between Meyer and Ash, the former Ohio State coordinator isn't trying to burn any bridges by targeting Ohio State commits.

While Ash says he isn't trying to recruit any commits that are solidly committed to Ohio State, the waters do become a bit murkier if there is an Ohio State commit who is contacting Ash and Rutgers and showing interest in the program. What makes things even tougher for Ash is that is his former boss is also in the Big Ten East Division with him. So far it seems like Ash and Meyer still have a great relationship, especially after the news was released that they'll hold at joint recruiting camp at Fairleigh Dickinson University the same day Michigan is holding one of their own at Paramus Catholic High School. Even though the two coaches may be on different sides now, they are still united in their desire to beat Michigan it seems.

"(Monday) night after the game, Butter came up to my locker with a big smirk on his face. I had no clue what he was smirking about. He said, 'Did you look in your helmet?' I said, 'What do you mean?' He said there was a Wolverine sticker in there."

- Boston Red Sox infielder Travis Shaw via Zack Cox, NESN.com

Since he was born and raised in Washington Court House, Travis Shaw grew up as a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Like any good Ohio State fan, Shaw can't stand anything Michigan. In his first season a full-time major leaguer, a practical joke by his third base coach might be responsible for Shaw's recent power surge for the Red Sox. Third base coach Brian Butterfield is a big Michigan supporter, so before Monday's game Butterfield put a Michigan sticker inside of Shaw's batting helmet. Shaw didn't notice until Butterfield told him about the sticker following the game, in which Shaw had three hits and scored three runs in the 14-7 Boston victory.

After his good night at the plate, Shaw decided to keep the sticker inside his helmet, hoping it would piss him off enough to get even more hits. So far the strategy has worked, with Shaw recording three hits, one of which was his fourth home run of the year, and five RBIs in Tuesday's 13-5 win over Oakland. Shaw added another hit and two more runs in last night's 13-3 Boston victory. The son of former MLB closer Jeff Shaw has been holding his own for the Red Sox, and the recent offensive outburst has moved his batting average to .323 so far this year.
