On the Heisman odds list, J.T. Barrett stays at 33-to-1 odds of taking home the trophy.

After a week that saw a couple of upsets in the college football landscape, a new batch of Vegas odds were released. Bovada, one of the more popular online sportsbook, released their odds. Unlike weeks past, the fluidity of the odds stayed the same through Monday afternoon to Tuesday evening.

Ohio State holds the third best odds at the moment, sitting at 7-to-1 odds of winning the title inside Mercedes Benz Stadium. In front of the Buckeyes are the Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers, who have the best and second best odds, respectively. The Tide sit at 19-to-10 odds; the Tigers at 9/2.

(To simplify the odds better, if you only bet a dollar on the Tide, the winning yield would be $1.90, and for the Tigers, a one dollar bet would bring home $4.50 if they won it all.)

Teams that saw a drop since the games on Saturday: the USC Trojans and Oklahoma State Cowboys. California had USC on the ropes for three quarters, before quarterback Sam Darnold helped pull his team away in the fourth. The Cowboys were wrangled by the TCU Horned Frogs at home.

Below is a table of the top 10 teams that have the best odds of winning the whole enchilada:

On the race for the Heisman Trophy, Saquon Barkley is now the favorite. However, since Monday, his odds have taken a small dip. Bovada has Barkley at 5-to-4 odds as of Tuesday afternoon; on Monday, those odds were 7-to-4.

Behind the Penn State running back is a quartet of QBs in Baker Mayfield, Mason Rudolph, Lamar Jackson and Darnold. The only quarterback who didn’t see their odds slip since Saturday was, surprisingly, Okie State’s Rudolph.

Mayfield currently has 3-to-1 odds, as Jackson and Darnold both hold 8-to-1 odds.

J.T. Barrett is behind Jackson and Darnold, but sits back at a distant 33-to-1 odds. Fellow Buckeye and running back J.K. Dobbins is completely off the board after having 25-to-1 odds entering the UNLV contest.

Thee Ohio State University News

With the demise of philosophical musings, I'm starting a thread for any noteworthy news about Ohio's glorious flagship university.

First one is a biggie. Following up on his pledge to devote more of our endowment and fundraising efforts towards affordability, President Drake announced that any student coming from a family making less than 55K per year will have any tuition not covered by scholarships or grants covered by the University.

LGHL Urban Meyer is looking for more out of Ohio State's secondary

If the Buckeyes want to compete, the secondary has to be better.

“So they have to develop and grow. And I thought we'd be a little further ahead in pass defense. I thought our corner development would be a little bit further ahead, but they are making strides.”

- Urban Meyer via Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland.com

The Ohio State secondary has left something to be desired over the past four weeks. Struggling against Indiana’s passing attack and then being picked apart by Oklahoma certainly didn’t help, but it’s not just against the good teams that the Buckeyes defensive backs have been weak against. Even against UNLV, there were plays that made you raise your eyebrows, especially when it came to pass interference (sometimes out of necessity). Kendall Sheffield, Damon Arnette and Denzel Ward have all been rotating this season, but coach Meyer is a little disappointed in where his secondary is at right now.

Any time you have NFL talent leave your roster, it’s tough to find replacements that are going to perform at the same level, even for a program like Ohio State. Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley were two of the best cornerbacks in the country last season and throw in a hyper-athletic safety that had a nose for the ball in Malik Hooker, Ohio State’s secondary was a luxury that most everyone is missing right about now.

Still, the good news is that there’s still time to improve and coach Meyer has said that the defensive backs are making strides. They’ll just have to be ready when Trace McSorley and Penn State roll into town in a couple of weeks.

“[Best college quarterbacks - Week 4] 2. Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett

- Jeremy Mills, ESPN

For as much criticism that quarterback J.T. Barrett receives in both wins and losses, there wasn’t much to complain about last Saturday when the Buckeyes smashed UNLV, 54-21. Barrett only played in the first half of the game, where he went 12-of-17 passing for 209 yards and five touchdowns. If you take a look at a couple of charts in the link above, you’ll see where he did most of his damage, and although none of the touchdown passes were down the field it was clear Barrett had a great day. Perhaps that’s what Ohio State needs to get used to, the horizontal passing game. It’s been proven that something goes wrong when the Buckeyes try to go vertical on teams, between dropped passes from receivers or misfires on Barrett’s fault.

This passing attack might not be as flashy, but it most definitely results in yardage and most often moving the chains, which is most important for an offense. If the passing game can be a consistent threat, that will open things up for J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber when running the ball. Even though it came against UNLV, it’s still important that Barrett and his receivers did well, if only for confidence building.

“But he showed on Saturday in Ohio State's 54-21 win vs. UNLV that while he doesn't have that five-star pedigree that some of the other members of his class does, he can be just as impactful at the college level.”

- Tim Bielik, Cleveland.com

Though there was plenty to be excited about when watching the backups and freshmen play against UNLV on Saturday, one standout that deserved attention was safety Isaiah Pryor. With all of the former five-stars on the team, it’s easy to get lost in the pack but Pryor, a former four-star, made a case as to why he could potentially be a key cog in the defensive secondary in the near future. Pryor had four tackles against the Rebels and a big-time sack as well.

There were quite a few players that had some nice plays and we even saw some Demario McCall action for the first time this season. Chase Young, the defensive end, also had four tackles and looked to be a man among boys for a lot of the plays that he was out there for. And after a lot of hype in fall camp, freshman wide receiver Jaylen Harris made his debut hauling in two passes for 27 yards.

The senior QB has been streaky, but he's coming off back-to-back star performances.

Have you ever dislocated something? The body's reaction to that particular injury is a bizarre (if anatomically unsurprising) one. It hurts, a lot, but when the offending part is finally reset, the pain vanishes almost instantaneously. The mind doesn't really believe it—how can that much pain just disappear that quickly?—but it's gone. Since it's so hard to believe, you spend the next few minutes waiting for the other shoe to drop; surely the pain must be coming back any second. But it never does.

This is how it's felt to watch J.T. Barrett these last two games. His hot hand and newfound accuracy almost boggle belief, given what his first two games looked like, and you'd be forgiven for still waiting for that proverbial pain to come.

Here's the thing: it might not come back at all! And it almost certainly won't come back this weekend against Rutgers.

The stats

Name: J.T. Barrett

Number: 16

Position: QB

Year: Senior

Height/Weight: 6'2, 220 lbs.

Line: 76/120 passing, 966 pass yards, 10 pass TDs, 1 INT, 43 rush attempts, 174 rush yards, 2 rush TDs

After an up-and-down day against a newly-feisty Indiana defense and an absolute collapse against playoff hopeful Oklahoma, Barrett has looked like a new man. In the Buckeyes' last two games against teams from outside the Power 5, he's bumped his completion percentage from 55.7 to 63.3, thrown 7 TDs and no picks (compared to 3 TDs and 1 pick), and played so well that Dwayne Haskins and even Joe Burrow got playing time at QB in blowout wins.

Opposition research

Rutgers is hardly the kind of high-caliber defense that should make Ohio State fans fret—quite the opposite, really, and it'll be a huge upset if Dwayne Haskins isn't in for at least full quarter. But the Scarlet Knights are better than both UNLV and Army were, 79th in team S&P+ compared to 102nd for the Black Knights and 112th for the Rebels.

That difference gets even more stark if you only look at defensive S&P+, where Rutgers, despite a 1-3 record, ranks an astonishing 23rd in the country. (Army comes in at No. 89 here, while UNLV sits alllll the way back at No. 128.) Rutgers isn't a good football team, but they do have Chris Ash at the helm, and there are signs of life stirring for his program in Ash's second year on the job. The co-architect of Ohio State's championship defense has a thankless job with a limited talent pool; it's showed in Rutgers' lackluster offense. But just like he did in Columbus, Ash seems to have some real mojo when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.

The Scarlet Knights don't have the horses to hang with the Buckeye offense for more than a quarter or two, but they have a few talented defenders to throw at Barrett and co. Linebacker Trevor Morris brought down Nebraska players three times behind the line of scrimmage last weekend en route to racking up 13 total tackles. Defensive end Darnell Davis is absolutely a threat to get past Ohio State's occasionally head-scratching (but improving!) offensive line. And DB Kiy Hester has recorded INTs in back-to-back games, including a 33-yard pick-six last weekend.

What to watch for

One of the biggest knocks on J.T. Barrett has been his tendency to float easy throws past wide open receivers, especially more than ten yards down the field. But whatever he, Ryan Day, and Kevin Wilson have been doing in practice, it's starting to pay off. The senior QB was throwing absolute darts to his targets against UNLV last weekend, hitting guys on the numbers with throws that had more oomph than he's typically shown in his career. It paid off, too, to the tune of five TDs in less than a half.

The question, then, is if he can keep that trajectory going against the third straight opponent that the Buckeyes should stomp. He's got an arsenal of 4- and 5-star talent at his disposal, including many receivers who are finally coming into their own after much-hyped arrivals a year or two ago. There are also the out-of-nowhere talents like C.J. Saunders and Rashod Berry, who for all we know might be good for 150 yards and a pair of TDs between them this week. (Or maybe we'll at least get another look at Saunders slapping hands with a teammate mid-play.)

With some injury news earlier this week, the roster looks a little different for Saturday.

After putting on a clinic against UNLV, Ohio State is heading into their main slate of conference games on Saturday. The Buckeyes will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and their super familiar head coach Chris Ash. Despite winning 54-21 against the Rebels, the Buckeyes dropped one spot in the AP Poll, losing their Top-10 ranking for the first time in years.

Now, as they prepare to hit the road for their second away game of the season, they’ll be without Malik Barrow after the DT tore his ACL last weekend. During his presser earlier this week, head coach Urban Meyer noted that LB Chris Worley is probable heading into this matchup, and that running back Mike Weber has finally been cleared for action. Interestingly, Meyer said Michael Hill’s suspension from the team is a week-to-week decision, and even though they lost Barrow, Hill won’t be suiting up against Rutgers.

J.T. Barrett accounted for five touchdowns against the Rebels.

It’s tough declare that the Ohio State offense is “back” after putting up 54 points against the same UNLV defense that made Howard’s Caylin Newton look like his older brother, but it was still a step forward for J.T. Barrett and the ever-developing passing game.

One could tell on Barrett’s first passing attempt that there was a clear talent discrepancy between the Buckeyes and the Rebels, but it was what came after Parris Campbell’s 69-yard untouched screen (aided by a terrible angle from the UNLV defender) that should give Buckeye fans hope for the rest of the season.

Terrible angle by the UNLV defender, but great block by Austin Mack on the corner. pic.twitter.com/MKvUtIgxYN

— Christopher Jason (@cjason112) September 23, 2017
  • After completing 12-of-12 passes on or behind the line of scrimmage against Army, Barrett’s lone pass attempt on or behind the line of scrimmage came on Campbell’s touchdown. It’s clear Kevin Wilson wanted to work on Barrett’s progressions and accuracy in the intermediate and deeper passing game, rather than just taking advantage of Ohio State’s talent advantage in space.
  • Outside of Barrett’s first downfield attempt — which happened to be Barrett’s lone overthrow -- the quarterback showed solid poise, mechanics and smarts in the pocket. But that throw (as shown below) needs to be completed on the regular. He had a clean pocket, stepped into the throw and the receiver found a hole in UNLV’s zone. On that incompletion, Barrett fell to 2-of-12 on throws of 20-plus yards this season, per the broadcast.
overthrow.jpg

  • A big positive that can be taken from this game was the receiver’s awareness to find the open holes in UNLV’s zone defense. Johnnie Dixon did a great job of this on a spot pattern, when he settled in the soft spot and quickly turned up-field for six.
dixon.jpg

  • The spread offense gurus over at Spreadoffense.com pointed out a wrinkle that the Buckeyes used off a run-pass option. A RPO typically runs off one read, but Barrett got to a second progression on this play — which resulted in a nice effort from Austin Mack.

Rarely see a progression throw off an RPO, nice job by JT Barrett and the Buckeye offense. #spreadoffense pic.twitter.com/puGhSDMInA

— SpreadOffense.com (@SpreadOffense) September 23, 2017
  • The Buckeyes have struggled in the red zone leading up to this game against UNLV, and Wilson (and Urban Meyer) got aggressive and made some changes. Twice they went for it on fourth down and both times they converted on tough throws from Barrett. The first throw to Binjimen Victor on the fade and the second to Terry McLaurin on the corner pattern will only add to Barrett’s confidence that he can make accurate throws in small windows and on the pressure of turning the ball over on downs.

Wow, what a catch by Binjimen Victor. Great concentration and awareness to get his right foot down while being pushed out. pic.twitter.com/9Xz7UyhDYT

— Christopher Jason (@cjason112) September 23, 2017
  • Overall, it’s clear that the key to this season and the success of this offense will be based on Barrett’s ability to complete the intermediate and deep throws. The implementation of RPOs and the horizontal passing game will put the offense in a better position to run the ball effectively and open up the deep passing game. The Buckeye offense will face Chris Ash this week who knows how to defend Barrett better than anyone, so it will be a solid test for Wilson, Barrett and the receivers.
  • During the bye week I will breakdown Dwayne Haskins’ extended performance and if he truly is the quarterback of the future.

NCAA Coaches: Bribing Players

The FBI is investigating and charging college basketball coaches for bribing players

The Department of Justice is soon to announce more about a corruption investigation into college basketball.

A bombshell in college basketball has caught up to as many as 10 college basketball assistant coaches and others involved in the sport in a corruption case related to bribery.

What’s the story here?

It doesn’t appear that this is a garden-variety NCAA scandal, where coaches might act with boosters to pay players. This is federal:

UNLV’s gambles didn’t pay off last Saturday.

Slow starts hindered the Buckeyes during each of their first three games, but a 44 - 7 halftime lead against the UNLV Rebels last Saturday quickly put to rest any thoughts of another gut-wrenching afternoon. A few statistical notes:

  • Rebels quarterback Armani Rogers averaged 11.8 yards per attempt against Howard and Idaho — but just 4.6 Y/A against Ohio State.
  • The Rebels broke off three rushes of 20-plus yards (including a 55-yard touchdown), but still averaged just 4.29 yards per carry on the afternoon.
  • UNLV’s 21 points were tied with Indiana for the second-most allowed by Ohio State’s defense this season, but a pick-six from backup quarterback Dwayne Haskins attributed to 33 percent of the Rebels’ score.

All three levels of the Buckeyes defense played great last Saturday, here are some of the game’s premiere performers.

Damon Arnette is balling out

Arnette, along with the rest of the secondary, faced some early season controversy after the Buckeyes seemed incapable of slowing down Richard Lagow and Baker Mayfield. His ability to redirect in an instant helped defeat UNLV’s well-timed reverse with the game still in reach, and his near pick-six helped blow the game wide open:

Opponents have found it easier to pick on Ohio State’s slot corner for the better part of the last two seasons, but Arnette’s recent lock-down play has made that choice a tall task as well. It took the Buckeyes’ young secondary a bit longer to grow up and start balling out than most expected, but their recent resurgence is in large part thanks to the consistently excellent play of guys like Arnette. The Buckeyes are seldom at a talent disadvantage, and they should continue to get better and more comfortable as the season goes on.

Nick Bosa, ladies and gentlemen, is a beast

Bosa’s seven tackles for loss this season are more than double the next closest Buckeye, and he’s also tallied a team-high 3.0 sacks. His well-timed pass deflection gifted Arnette’s aforementioned interception, while Bosa’s relentless and consistent penetration has helped him stand out on a defensive line full of studs:

Bosa’s sound technique is made unstoppable when he gets a good jump off the snap, something that has been happening with more regularity in recent weeks. The Buckeyes feed off creating negative plays, as it forces the opponent to operate behind the sticks — a death sentence against Ohio State’s elite mix of pass rushers and corners. While last season’s defensive line was dominant, no single player routinely commanded the attention of the entire team’s offensive line. Through four games, Bosa has routinely emerged as the premiere playmaker on the nation’s best defensive line.

The Piranhas are BACK

Ohio State’s kickoff-coverage team has been almost hilariously dominant for the better part of Urban Meyer’s reign. Still, the unit struggled against Oklahoma and Army, prompting Meyer to call out the unit prior to last Saturday. They responded by holding the Rebels inside their own 20-yard line all on five of their first half returns. The Buckeyes made each and every kickoff a must-watch occasion:

The will of the Rebels’ kick return unit was broken swiftly at Ohio Stadium, as each return was met by a swarm of scarlet uniforms. UNLV hardly had a chance to work outside the shadow of their own end zone for the entire first half, and this advantage in field position proved to be instrumental in the Buckeyes blowing the Rebels out early.

Last Saturday was real, and fun, but it wasn’t really fun. The Buckeyes have a prime-time matchup against Rutgers this Saturday, but don’t have a big-time test until they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska on October 14.

The final: 54-21, Ohio State

Defensive player of the game: Nick Bosa (4 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection)

Defensive play of the game: Bosa pass deflection leads to interception by Damon Arnette.

Next Victim: Rutgers. Time to show the New York City media what it’s like to have a college football team. Keep it classy, Columbus.

The biggest point of them all: Mike Weber is ready to play (and run over defenses).

Once again, another Monday passed, and another Urban Meyer press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center got completed. All the non-conference regular season games are in the books, meaning the road to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game is now full speed ahead.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are the team the Buckeyes will face this week, and Meyer divulged some tidbits about his program as we head into Week 5 of this college football season.

Let’s break down three of the biggest points Meyer made at the podium, and figure out what this means for the Scarlet and Gray as they try to make their way back to the top of the conference (and college football) mountain.

1. “Weber is cleared, and he'll play”

By far the most important words uttered by Meyer on Monday were in that quote above. Mike Weber didn’t play in the Buckeyes' 54-21 win against UNLV, played sparingly against Army, had three rushes in the loss to the Oklahoma Sooners and didn’t even play in the season opener against Indiana.

Hearing that he’s clear is going to make the OSU running game infinitely better. J.K. Dobbins has been holding down the fort and J.T. Barrett has always been utilized as a potential runner in the read-option. With Weber in the fold, he becomes the guy that bulldozes past defenses on those third-and-short scenarios.

If Weber is at 100 percent, a running duo of Dobbins and Weber will be OSU’s version of ‘Thunder and Lighting.’ Really, if things start to click, it’ll be next to impossible to stop Ohio State on the run. Going up against an Iowa or a Penn State, teams will need to have some sort of running game that can fight on through the physicality; having just one back, especially one that has speed being his claim to fame, won’t cut it.

Also, having Weber gives Barrett another passing option. Especially since Barrett throws a fair amount of passes at or behind the line of scrimmage, it’s another option to have. Last season, Weber hauled in 23 passes for 91 yards.

usa_today_9544286.jpg
Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports
Put me in, Coach: Last season, Mike Weber became just the third RB in OSU history to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman

Holding the Detroit native out of the UNLV contest gave him that extra week to get healthy. In pressers past, Meyer has mentioned the importance of his returning 1,000-yard rusher. At this point of the season, how healthy the team is becomes a storyline in itself—title hopes can nosedive after a star player goes down with a long-term injury.

Chris Worley was said to be probable for Rutgers, and Malik Barrow has an ACL tear, rendering him out for the season. Right now, that’s two key members of the defense who are out; on offense, with the return of Weber, there really isn’t a big injury on the first line of the depth chart.

We’ll see how healthy Weber is on Saturday. But either way, expect him to be weaned back into the swing of things, and fully back by the time Penn State rolls into Columbus.

2. “You can see we're working on it very hard. Obviously the game changes a lot down there [the red zone] and we haven't been good the last couple of years. So we're working our tails off at that.”

In the first few weeks of the season, Ohio State struggled to operate a touchdown driven offense when they got to the red zone. (Who remembers the Oklahoma game, where the Buckeyes screwed around deep in OU territory, and had to settle for three? Feeling frustrated by that memory?)

Well, times are changing—and that’s a good thing.

Passing TDs off of quality throws and catches were the theme in the win against UNLV. Binjimen Victor went up for a jump-ball toward the edge of the end zone, and Terry McLaurin caught a ball in the northeast corner of touchdown land that probably made the Rebels wonder, “man, why are we even playing this game?”

It wasn’t a fluke that Barrett was cranking gems; they’ve been working on it. It took four games to get to this point, but Meyer said that the offense has been working to get better with the short field in front of them. This problem hasn’t been a 2017 season problem, it’s existed for quite some time. Meyer said it goes back a couple years; however, go back to the Sugar Bowl against Alabama, and you’ll see the Buckeyes struggle—albeit early in the game—to get into the end zone while in the Crimson Tide’s red zone.

Opening up the playbook down in the red zone might be one of the biggest tidbits Meyer has given us about how his offense operates. If you’re an opposing coach, specifically, a defensive coach, you could always bank on OSU doing a run play, a rollout with a throw direct to the corner of the end zone, or the always-predictable read-option when they got close to the goal line. If teams played their cards right—which some did a little too well—then you held the Buckeyes to three points.

Granted, Meyer reduced the Rebels defense, which already lost to Howard this season after giving up 43 points, to swiss cheese. His offense needed these kinds of cupcake games to basically act as a research and development section of the football operations. Even though you may run those red zone passing plays in practice, it’s a whole different story when you gotta do it in an actual game.

(Real talk: Practice is wayyy different than doing the actual thing. I remember a time when I was trying out for my high school golf team, and I was hitting the ball well at the driving range. However, when I went to like hole No. 4, a hole that basically had the pin on an island surrounded by water, it’s like I didn’t know how to golf. Long story short: I lost like 5 Callaway golf balls on that hole.)

The execution of touchdown passes in the red zone are a sign that 1) Kevin Wilson and co. are utilizing more options when they get close to the land of six, and 2) the receivers can make plays when the ball is on the money—which was sorta suspect against IU and OU.

3. “So they have to develop and grow. And I thought we'd be a little further ahead in pass defense. I thought our corner development would be a little bit further ahead, but they are making strides.”

Even though they got two picks against Rebels quarterback Armani Rogers, the Buckeyes’ pass defense is still a work in progress. The two picks were great, but they came against a redshirt freshman. I will admit, though, I thought there were more than a few glimpses that the Buckeyes’ claim of being ‘Defensive Back University’ was on its way to coming back into the national conversation after the Rebels drubbing.

On the other hand, there were a few times when the coverage fell apart, and Rogers was able to make a few plays happen. In the end, let’s call a spade a spade: UNLV wasn’t really that good of an example to see how the OSU pass defense was performing. The Hoosiers and Sooners were two good tests, and the Buckeyes barely passed IU—and flunked the Baker Mayfield exam.

Meyer is one of the more open coaches in college football; some coaches, you’d be lucky to get more than a sentence fragment for an answer like this. With that being said, I’m inclined to believe that when Meyer says strides are being made, strides are being made.

While Meyer may see the strides being made on the practice field, we’ll only see them during the games. The question now proposed is: will we see enough of it against Rutgers? This season, against their two Power 5 conference opponents, Washington and Nebraska, the Scarlet Knights aired out the ball for 178 yards and 126 yards, respectively. Against the Huskies, the squad from New Brunswick, N.J. threw 35 times.

It will be safe to expect that Chris Ash will have his QB take some chances down the field. That’s when we’ll find out if the Buckeyes have gotten better preventing teams from marching down the field via the air. While Rutgers may be a better team this season—Meyer said it himself during the presser—they’ll be hard pressed to have a functional offense against OSU’s defense.

More strides will be made before the team takes of for New Jersey. Expect a pick (or two) from the secondary when all is said and done on Saturday night.

The Buckeyes are still in the running for one of the top cornerbacks in the country.

The Ohio State football team is set to enter its in-conference schedule this weekend, and with that comes an additional focus on watching tape and fixing issues. With one loss already, the Buckeyes will likely have to win the rest of their games in hopes of securing a College Football Playoff appearance in back-to-back years.

In order to accomplish this goal, the Buckeyes will need to approach the back half of their schedule with a week-by-week mindset. However, while trying to remain focused on only the game ahead, Meyer and the coaching staff are also tasked with preparing for the future. Meyer has seemed to find the perfect balance between the two and this is what has vaulted Ohio State to elite status when it comes to recruiting.

This nonstop focus on recruiting continues to pay off for the Buckeyes, as the program learned it inched one step closer to acquiring one of the best recruits in this year's class.

Four-star CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart (San Diego, CA/Helix) announced his top 12 schools Monday afternoon and Ohio State made the cut. The Buckeyes have stiff competition for Taylor-Stuart as the other schools included were Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, Illinois, USC, Texas A&M, and Texas.

Taylor-Stuart is one of the top recruits in the 2018 recruiting class. The 6'2, 187-pound CB is rated No. 4 at his position, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, and is the No. 26 overall prospect in the entire class, regardless of position.

The Buckeyes currently sit with just one CB commit in this year's class and he has a familiar name: Marcus Hooker, the brother of former Ohio State star safety Malik Hooker. However, the team is looking to add one more and Taylor-Stuart would make for an amazing addition.

However, Ohio State has some ground to make up in his recruitment if it is to outlast all of the other programs included in his list. An official visit is almost certainly a must as he has yet to visit Columbus. Currently, USC is viewed as the clear favorite, with 89 percent of the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, with Alabama being the only other school seen as having a chance.

That being said, if Meyer and the Buckeyes are able to get him on campus, anything is possible.

Holtmann looking to continue hot streak

Chris Holtmann is doing all he can to bring Ohio State basketball back from the dead. After becoming the head coach of the program, he made quick work of the recruiting landscape, vaulting the Buckeyes' 2017 recruiting class to the No. 2 class in the Big Ten and the No. 22 class in the entire country.

However, now that he has had more time to show recruits what Ohio State can offer, his recruiting prowess is really beginning to shine.

Following a week in which the Buckeyes earned four commitments, which included two guards and two forwards, the program now boasts the No. 9 recruiting class for 2018 and is now looking to round the class out with a big man.

Three-star center prospect Morris Udeze (Montverde, FL/Montverde Academy) will reportedly be making his collegiate decisions tomorrow, and the Buckeyes could be the selection. According to Jake Weingarten of Rivals.com, his recruitment has come down to three schools; Ohio State, Wichita State, and Holtmann’s former program, Butler.

While Udeze’s recruitment has seemed to go in Wichita State’s favor, Holtmann has been rolling out the red carpet for him in the month of September. The Ohio State coach has visited Udeze twice this month and the school hosted him on an official visit Sept. 15.

While the Shockers should still be seen as the favorite to land Udeze, don’t be shocked if Holtmann is able to secure his fifth commitment in less than 10 days.
