Lincoln Riley pledges no ‘Horns Down’ gestures from No. 6 OU vs. No. 11 Texas



As anyone who’s ever been around a child or a dog knows, the surest way to get them to obsess over an item or action they want is to it it away from them.

Turns out, that works for college football fans as well.

Last year’s Big 12 football season was highlighted by Kyler Murray‘s Heisman Trophy run, Texas’s long-awaited resurgence, a high-flying West Virginia offense and the Big 12’s official outlawing of the “Horns Down” gesture. The storyline reached its zenith ahead of the Big 12 Championship, a Red River rematch that saw every Oklahoma fan defiantly point their pointer and pinky fingers toward the floor for the entire drive from Norman to Arlington, then saw the team finally join in after OU won the game.

With the Cotton Bowl edition of the Red River game set to arrive on Saturday (noon ET, Fox), Lincoln Riley pledged his team won’t throw their horns down, at least during the game.

“Our players won’t do it. Just like the Big 12 (championship) game,” Riley told the Tulsa World.

Regardless of how you feel the Big 12 classifying what has long been an accepted gesture now worthy of a 15-yard taunting penalty, this is smart football by Riley. Oklahoma racks up plenty of penalty yardage over the course of a typical game (90.4 yards per game, second most nationally), so they don’t need to go looking for 15-yard flags.

The fans, though, that’s another story.

tsun -20 at Illinois.

Wisky -10 vs Sparty

Pedsters -3 at Iowa at night


Part of me thinks Sparty is going to be beat up and emotionally spent thereby ending up on the wrong end of a Madison train ride.

I'm not sure tsun can score 20 on air but Illinois is horrible.

Pedsters could be on full upset alert but sweet blue baby jesus is the Iowa offense, and QB, bad.

As a Spartan in Columbus for the game, I cannot think of a better way to start the day then to join a bunch of Buckeyes in cheering on a wolverine defeat. (The enemy of my enemy is my friend . . . Until kickoff).

Lawyer accuses Antonio Brown of 'reprehensible behavior' during deposition in luxury condo legal dispute

The allegations were detailed in a motion filed by the opposing attorney this week, in the midst of a civil lawsuit against Brown for allegedly causing nearly $100,000 in damages to a luxury high-rise condo rental that Brown inhabited into early 2018. After eight months of legal jabbing between Brown and the owner of the unit, the wideout finally sat for a court-ordered deposition on Sept. 24. According to the opposing attorney, Brown wrecked the proceedings with a litany of “reprehensible behavior”. The lawyer now wants the judge in the case to order a new deposition, with the inclusion of a court-appointed special master who would oversee the proceedings and hold Brown accountable for any actions taken during the session.

Brown’s attorney, Darren Heitner, told Yahoo Sports that a legal response to the allegations and motion was in the process of being prepared for submission to the court as early as Thursday.
Among the incidents highlighted in the motion — which opposing lawyer George Minksi claims “warrants the imposition of monetary sanctions” and more — Brown is alleged to have:

• Arrived nearly 30 minutes late to the deposition.
  
  
• Acted “belligerent and pugnacious, refusing to answer the most routine of questions, despite there being no objection to the questioning coming from his counsel.”
  
  
• “[C]hanted, over and over, as if a mantra, a narrative of his own warped concept of the proceeding”.
  
  
• “Acting as if he was above the rule of law, [Brown] proceeded to make a mockery of the deposition process. [Brown’s] antics were so unreasonable that barely twenty [20] minutes into the deposition, his counsel asked for a break [so] he could speak with [Brown] about his demeanor.”
  
  
• “When the deposition resumed, [Brown] began texting on his cell phone. Regardless of multiple requests from his own counsel, and from the undersigned, [Brown] continued texting”.
  
  
• “After approximately 20-30 minutes, [Brown] required another break. When the deposition resumed [Brown] increased his level of obstructive behavior. At one point, [Brown] refused to answer any questions, instead saying “next question” no less than 10 times.”
  
  
• “Soon thereafter, [Brown] started announcing a countdown, starting at ‘five (5) minutes,’ and counting down the minutes thereafter. Before noon [Brown] left the conference room.”
  

To back up the claims made in the motion, the opposing attorney said the recording of the deposition would be filed into record so “the Court may actually see [Brown’s] shenanigans.” A hearing is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 8 to hash out a motion by Brown’s attorneys to either quash the deposition and/or grant a protective order for the video and materials produced in the one that took place on Sept. 24. That would likely help to keep the video from public view, including any media or NFL teams that might still be considering signing Brown in the future.

This year I keep saying that “this is the best I’ve ever seen” for every position group. I am not joking when I say we may have the best units for all 9.

QB- I’d take Fields over anyone. His accuracy, decision making, mobility, strength, and how much he can grow. Sure Tua is possible but give me #1.
RB- maybe UGA or Clemson but Dobbins is #2 in rushing and Master is such a weapon.
WR- Alabama has the best duo and Clemson is good too but do they go 6 deep like we do? No.
TE- not even close it’s us. We have 4 playing regularly.
OL- not even close it’s us.
DL- not even close it’s us.
LB- we have 6 starters. Who else averages 6’3 240 pounds and can run? Give me our group
DB- not even close it’s us.
Kicker- one of the best punters and a kicker that’s really good but just hasn’t been needed.

I’ve never seen this before really...

You guys are really, really good. I mean, we all knew going in you're the best team in the BIG this year. But to put a curb-stompin' of that magnitude vs a not-too-bad Nebraska team was impressive, to say the least.

I think our guys were a bit (!) out of their element on the big stage Sat. night. We're a young team who has not had a ton of big-game, big-exposure experience. Our quarterback was obviously shaken and missed a LOT of receivers early. Our defense, as I had feared, was exposed again on national TV.

Obviously, the talent disparity is huge, and we knew that going in. Nebraska has GOT to find a way to haul in some top-level recruits if this program wants to win some championships ever again. I don't think Nebraska has ever signed a 5-star guy.

The hope around here is that you guys don't beat us twice and that we come out with our hair on fire vs N'Werstern this week. We still have the BIG West in our sights and a decent bowl game at the end of the year.

Anyway, kudos to a great tOSU team. You guys ought to roll over the rest of your schedule, incl. UMich. I'll be pulling for you to get to the playoff and win one for the Big Ten!!

On my way to work tonight I was listening to the ESPNU channel on XM and needless to say it was a mistake. I knew it was when I got in the truck but I guess I just like to get my blood going haha. They were basically slighting the B1G as a whole saying things like it's a one horse race, unlike the SEC and etc. Then went on to say things like Alabama has played the best, Clemson is still the #1 team, etc so I ran the numbers. I looked up the rankings (total O and D, Rushing O and D as well as Passing O and D) and averaged them.

Here is the data with the averaged ranking in parentheses, number of point scored and allowed and diff.
1. Bama(71.63) 259-74, +185
2. Clemson (69.03) 189-70, +119
3. UGA (81.16) 108-23, +85 (they've only played 4 games and only 3 included since 1 is an FCS team)
4. Ohio St (72.16) 252-43, +219.

Now what stood out to me those most is the total defense Bama has faced averaged to 91.2 and the've only played one defense ranked better than #90, Duke at #29. UGA's averaged total defense ranking? 89. with only ND inside the top 100 at #40. Clemsons is 79.4 while Ohio St's 80.4

Offense rankings show Bama playing the "best" offenses at 52.6, following by Clemson at 58.6, Ohio St at 62.2 and UGA pulling up the rear at 73.

By the metrics and on film, its obvious Alabama and Ohio St are playing the best of the 4 teams and it's not even close. UGA just isnt explosive, they don't have the burst, Alabama's offense is spectacular but their rushing game is weak, Clemson is just meh. Not sure if they just havent hit stride or if they're just not as good as they were thought to be.


As far as the B1G being weak, that is just a farce, IMO. No statistical data to back that up as of now but Wisc has literally literally dominated every team they've played outside of NW and PSU just put up 60, again.

What does everyone think?

Also, I normally do statistical breakdowns of various things in the off season if it's something that interests people.

Hey fellow football freaks. HeftyHusker (realist) checking in just before game time tomorrow.

Our Offense has been pretty good so far, if we can only stay clear of disastrous turnovers and penalties. I think we may be able to score some.

HOWEVER:

Our Defense has been deplorable vs good teams since Suh left 10 years ago, and that will be the difference in this game. We're going to lose, but I hope we can keep you under 60. I've learned not to expect much defensively.

You'll get it done tomorrow, and we'll pin our hopes on beating Wisky for a signature win for the year. At least we'll make a bowl game this year. That'll be nice for a change.

Good luck and hopefully injuries will be kept to a minimum on both sides.

Andrade is a walk-on quarterback from La Verne, California, who also joined the Buckeyes this summer. He has not seen any playing time for the Buckeyes, but drew praise from quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Mike Yurcich last week for the effort he has put in on the scout team, where he has also lined up at wide receiver.
