Shannon and Chip bring some great content again this week. Bleacher Report Mag had an amazing article about the Meyer family opening up in regards to Urban’s mental health. I’m not the Lone Wolf is an excellent read packed full of insight that Shannon and Chip took a lot of things from.

Shannon talked about his first day working at The Shoe, he sounds like he is still amazed and thrilled by being there.

The guys discuss the Tulsa game that happened. The slow start that ended with a storm of interceptions. The delayed halftime that allowed the Buckeyes to have more time to make adjustments. The second half was a tale of what fans watched in the Bowling Green game.

For this week Shannon and Chip are joined by Ryan Aber of The Oklahoman. Ryan brought a ton of insight into the Oklahoma program including that the Sooners are in a must win situation.

The #AskMotSaG segment and the Pick’Em segment have some great stuff along with the rest of the show.

OHIO2-150x150.jpg

Life is full of moments in time. In many instances, it is that one moment which you will be judged by. It’s the one interaction with a stranger at the grocery store, the simple greeting you give to a co-worker walking down the hall, or even the holding of a door for another parent at your child’s school. These little moments throughout the day define what impression you are giving off of who you want to be.

This weekend, two of the most prestigious universities in all of college football will come together and meet in Norman, Oklahoma. The AP ranks these two football teams as the top two programs of all-time. Needless to say, fans from both sides have been looking forward to this since it was announced.

While the two blue bloods meet on the gridiron, another meeting is happening in and outside of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium…the fan bases. Here is where I am going to give you a simple task. It is one I use every time I go to a Ohio State game and is fairly simple…don’t be a douche bag.

Every fan base has them. Sometimes they wear a cowboy hat and cape which makes it very easy to spot. Other times, they blend in and look like any other fan wearing a jersey or team colors. It is these ones that sneak up on you and mold your opinion of an entire fan base. Let me tell you about two interactions which have completed cause me to hate fairly insignificant fan bases; California and Arkansas.

It was 2011, in New Orleans, when I found out Arkansas had a football team. They were led by former Wolverine Ryan Mallet and had somehow navigated their way through the SEC schedule to play in the Sugar Bowl against the Buckeyes. Being in the military, I usually have numerous friends for each fan base that I come across but with Arkansas I had never met a fan prior to this meeting.

On game day we made our way down to the stadium and was immediately bombarded with Razorback fans letting us know how much the SEC was better than Ohio State. This was not a huge deal for me…I lived in Florida at the time and worked with numerous SEC fans. At some point..it becomes annoying. No matter where we went whether it was the bathroom, a line for beer, a line to get in the stadium…there was an Arkansas fan there screaming about how great they were because on their conference affiliation. At no point during that entire game was there an actual conversation with any Arkansas fan. This was very unfortunate for me because one of my favorite things about going to bowl games and big-time games is interacting with other fan bases and trying to find out more about their team and their school. This entire day has forever made me not respect Arkansas.

Now we move on to 2013, when Ohio State traveled to Berkeley, California to face the Cal Bears. I was pretty excited for this game. I have family that lives in the Bay Area and they graduated from California so it was perfect for us to fly out there and go to the game with them. With that said, we sat in the alumni section of California. I never thought it would be a big deal because this was a pretty low threat game in which Ohio State was supposed to win easily. If you remember this was also the game where Ohio State took over that stadium so I was expecting very little drama.

My first negative interaction with California fans was as we were making our way from the subway to the stadium. I am walking with my then 10-year-old son, my wife, and our aunt and uncle who were decked out in Cal gear. Not exactly a murderer’s row of Buckeye fans. We weren’t drinking and we were minding our own business just walking to the stadium. That is when two college-age kids decided to walk up right behind us and begin talking about how they wanted to murder a Ohio State fan today. To quote them “I’m not even playing, I want to actual murder an Ohio State fan today.” They began to go into detail talking just loud enough that my 10-year-old could hear. He never brought it up but I felt him squeeze my hand just a little bit harder hearing what they were saying. We kept on walking…I pretended like I didn’t hear them but in the back of my mind I did…and I was judging an entire fan base.

As we got to our seats inside of the stadium, we realized that we were sitting behind the student section. This was not a big deal for us. We had a couple of families around us, mixed Ohio State and California, and we began having small talk with all of them. When the game started, the student section in front of us stood as the game began. We were OK with that…we stand during games too. So we stood up and began watching the game just as everything was normal. It was about six minutes into the game when an older drunk gentleman standing behind my wife stepped up onto her bench and began yelling into her ear. He was incredibly upset that she would not sit down…never mind the fact that everyone in front of her was standing. At this point, I removed my wife from the situation and placed myself into the situation and began discussing the matter with the older man. The older man was with his family and they quickly pulled him away and took him out of the stands as they were profusely apologizing to my family. That moment, along with the moments walking to the stadium, has forever made me hate California as a team and as a fan base for no good reason at all. I realize I only met a small sample but that does not stop me.

As a fan base, we are going to be judged by every single interaction that we have in Norman. These are two great teams and two great fan bases coming together to enjoy a great game. Nobody cares if you think the Big 12 is horrible…just as you shouldn’t care if the Big Ten is horrible. These are things that you do not need to bring up. These are things that if you bring up you may be a douche bag.

If you are sitting around Oklahoma fans during the game or if you’re out to a restaurant take some time and talk with a Sooner fan. Find out what some of their traditions are or where you should go before the game or where you should go after the game. This is a giant celebration of two great teams and should be treated as such.

We are one of the biggest fan bases around. We travel to every big game, we travel to every away game… simply put we make our presence known. Do your part to make our presence known in a memorable and positive way.

Will past recruiting misses come back to haunt the Buckeyes?

The season is young, but it’s hard not to be impressed with Ohio State’s defense so far. Sure, the competition hasn’t been stiff through two games. Tulsa and Bowling Green aren’t world beaters.

Still, both programs run up-tempo spread offenses and should rank toward the top of their respective conferences in total offense this season. Yet neither scored a touchdown in their visits to the Horseshoe while the Buckeyes’ defense scored three times.

That’s what happens when you’re able to replace first round draft picks with four and five-star recruits at a place like Ohio State.

The Buckeyes will likely never operate at a talent deficit this season, but there are a handful of teams capable of stressing Ohio State’s defense with athletes, and not just scheme. Oklahoma is one of those programs, and the Sooners will be an early indicator into just how good the Silver Bullets can be this season.

“This is big boy football now,” said defensive coordinator Greg Schiano during Monday’s media session.

On paper, not even the prestigious Sooners can match the talent that Urban Meyer has collected in Columbus. Oklahoma has averaged the nation’s 15th best recruiting class over the last four cycles, per the 247sports recruiting composite. Meyer has reeled in three top-five classes during that time.

That is not to discredit Bob Stoops and the boys from Norman. Oklahoma returned 14 starters from a squad that reached the College Football Playoff a year ago, and boasts one of the most dangerous backfields in the sport, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Oftentimes the Sooners’ celebrated signal caller is flanked by a pair of devastating running backs in Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. Perine once rushed for 427 yards in one game, an NCAA record. Mixon might be even more explosive.

And there lies the complication for Schiano as he prepares his unit for Saturday’s showdown; Oklahoma’s strongest personnel group is designed to attack Ohio State’s weakest link.

While it’s true that few coaches can rival Meyer’s recruiting prowess, Ohio State’s ability to sign elite defensive tackles has resembled that of a middling Midwest program in recent years. The Buckeyes have made a habit of chasing the big-name, big-bodied behemoths from southern states, only to be left at the alter come national signing day.

As a result, Meyer and his staff have often fallen back on their second, third, or even fourth option at defensive tackle. Take the 2015 recruiting cycle for an example, when the Buckeyes struck out swinging pursuing a pair of five-stars, and then settled on Robert Landers and Davon Hamilton in response. Landers was ranked as the 476th best recruit in his class. Landers was unranked. Both will see significant playing time as redshirt freshmen this Saturday.

Recruiting rankings aren’t everything. Some of Ohio State’s best players during Meyer’s tenure were once unheralded recruits. But it takes vision to see a Big Ten star where others see a MAC-level talent. And from there a tremendous level of coaching is required to make that vision a reality.

There might not be a better position coach in the country to carry out that mission than Larry Johnson. Before coming to Columbus in 2014, Johnson was Penn State’s defensive line coach for 14 years. During that time he developed five first-team All Americans.

Johnson’s ability to quickly develop a young defensive line will come to the forefront this Saturday evening. The Buckeyes struggled at times last weekend defending Tulsa’s run game, and the Golden Hurricane’s exposed Ohio State’s over-pursuing tackles on trap plays multiple times in the first quarter.

As the game settled down so did the OSU interior line while showing signs of growth. A notable play came in the second quarter, when Landers demolished a Tulsa misdirection run play, flashing the ability that Johnson likely envisioned when he recruited the young wrecking ball of a man.

“He’s so low to the ground it’s hard to block him,” said linebacker Raekwon McMillan of Landers. “He has great get off on the ball.”

It’s pivotal that Landers and his counterparts get off blocks early and often against Oklahoma so that McMillan and the linebackers can attack Perine and Mixon behind the chains. The Sooners utilize several of the same trap concepts that Tulsa deployed last weekend, and run much of their play-action off of that look.

Mayfield garners more fanfare than any other Sooner, and rightfully so. The former Heisman finalist plays with more creativity than any quarterback in the country, and has the unique ability to see a 40-yard touchdown where most see a five-yard loss.

That ability is amplified when defenses face run-pass conflicts on second or third-and-short. When Oklahoma’s running game is stifled on early downs, however, it forces Mayfield to become a more traditional pocket passer, mitigating his threat.

Some fans have questioned whether this game with Oklahoma is consequential to any of Ohio State’s goals. As a non-conference opponent, the Sooners have no impact on the Buckeyes’ bid for a Big Ten title. And with the conference looking as strong as ever, OSU could probably survive a loss here, win out and make the playoff.

But what if the Buckeyes fall because the interior line cannot contain a dynamic rushing attack? The days of playing Bowling Green and Tulsa are over. The likes of Wisconsin, Michigan State and Michigan are peering around the corner, with powerful run games of their own in tow. Ohio State’s ability to stifle Mixon and Perine could foreshadow what’s to come in conference play, for better or worse.

Like Schiano said, it’s time for big boy football. The Buckeyes will need their biggest boys to prove their worth on Saturday.

Welcome to your tri-weekly look at all things Ohio State recruiting. Let’s get started!

The Elephant in the Recruiting Class:

I’ve avoided writing about Shaun Wade for as long as I can on here because honestly I was just tired of reading about him myself. He has been committed to the Buckeyes for a year and eight months now, and he resembles the closest thing to a non-commit that you can see. He has said all the right things, making the 100% committed declaration, and saying OSU is his leader still. Then why all the drama? He has said that he will be taking all five of his official visits while still being committed to the Buckeyes. I know that this is common practice among high school kids now, get your foot in the door and commit to save your spot, then look around for a better option. If Shaun Wade wants to be a Buckeye then fine, end it and come join the fray. If he doesn’t, decommit and open the spot for someone who does want to be a Buckeye. However, I am sure that this will continue to drag on as Wade is one of the most talented defensive backs in the country in the class of 2017, and any team would be lucky to have him. Unfortunately we probably won’t find out where he will be attending college for real for quite some time.

Wade will be on the campus of Notre Dame this weekend as the Fighting Irish take on the Michigan State Spartans in what should be a quality match-up of two of the countries premier programs. He is also expected to visit Alabama and Ohio State, and will fit in two other schools into his schedule as time permits. If the experts at 247 are correct, then Wade will be flipping to the Crimson Tide as he holds a 78% crystal ball prediction currently.

Bringing the Juice:

The Buckeyes handed out another offer yesterday to a class of 2018 athlete in Fredrick “Juice” Scruggs out of Erie, Pennsylvania. Scruggs is listed as a 4-star offensive guard with 11 offers to date. He recently visited Pittsburgh and Penn State. He holds offers from Michigan State, Penn State, Syracuse and Iowa State among others. Scruggs is the 7th ranked athlete from the state of Pennsylvania for the 2018 class and is the #9 overall offensive guard.

Bishop Gorman Pipeline Forming?

The Buckeyes already have commitments from Tate Martell, Tyjon Lindsey and Haskell Garrett from the Bishop Gorman Gaels out of Las Vegas, Nevada. The #1 high school program in the nation has boat loads of talent, and Ohio State is trying to mine the state like prospectors did during the gold and silver rush. Bubba Bolden could be the next of these stars to join his teammates at Ohio State. While the Buckeyes wait to see what guys like Jeffrey Okudah decide to do, they aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket and thus we have seen a few offers go out to class of ’17 safetys, Bolden being one of them.

Bolden was at one time a USC commitment, but backed off that pledge back in July. He has since then received offers from Boise State, Florida, Oregon and of course Ohio State. It sounds like Bolden will attempt to make a visit to Ohio State this fall before making a final decision, and he cites his relationship with his current teammates in an interview with Rivals Adam Gorney ($) as a reason why.

“Tyjon is like a brother. Tate is like a brother. Haskell is too. They’re recruiting me,” he said. “Me and Tyjon have a connection. We’re not rich kids and we came from nothing, and now we’re here making it big-time, making big-time plays and having offers. He and I want to stick together, and I think we can and we could do big things.”

5-Star Lineman Still has Buckeyes on Top:

Jackson Carman might be on of the must get recruits for the class of 2018. He is the #1 prospect in the state of Ohio and the #3 offensive tackle in the nation. He currently holds 33 offers, but he spoke with Bill Greene of Scout ($) as to why the Buckeyes are his leader.

“Ohio State is my leader,” Carman admitted after the game. “Having Coach Meyer and Coach Stud come see me play was great, but during the game I wasn’t thinking about that at all because I wanted to win. In the heat of the game, stuff like that doesn’t cross my mind.”

Coach Studwara and Coach Meyer were on hand to watch Carman and his Fairfield High School team take on Dublin Coffman. He said it gave him a bit of “extra incentive” to play hard knowing they were in attendance.

He cites his relationship with Coach Studware as a big influence on his relationship with Ohio State.

“He has a great personality and he’s easy to talk to,” Carman noted. “I can tell when I’m talking to him about football that he knows what he’s talking about. I may not know something, but when he explains it something clicks and I think his way of coaching is really good.”

Carman recently visited Notre Dame last weekend and has plans of visiting Michigan State, Alabama and Ohio State at some point this fall. He has no timetable on a decision yet, but likely will wait until his senior season.

JHarb-150x150.jpg

On Jim Harbaugh’s radio show Tuesday night he seemingly had a need to clear the air. The second segment of his show the TTUN coach was asked if there was anything he wanted to address:

He did – of course!

The world of College Football has been buzzing (Thank God for YouTube) after TTUN spanked central Florida this past Saturday 51-14. Harbaugh was caught on a shot from the roaming cameras of not trolling someone on the sidelines, or staring aimlessly at nothing in particular, but … get ready for this … of picking his nose and putting it in his mouth. Yep!

“I have never eaten a booger in my entire life,” Harbaugh said. “It might have looked like that was happening. But if you rub your nose and then you bite your fingernail, that’s not eating a booger. There was no booger eaten.”

He would add:

“For clarity here, for the record, I have never eaten a booger in my entire life.”

Believe it or not – this is real stuff.

Keep in mind this is the same dude that climbed a tree to impress a recruit. The same dude who spent the night at another recruits playing video games all night.

The video speaks for itself. As the refs in a game would conclude – just not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field.

Osu Men’s Rugby Start 2016 Season 1-1

RUG-150x150.jpg

The Ohio State University Men’s Rugby Club has started off where they left off last season (2015 BTU Runners-up) – with rapid notice that they deserve mention in any conversation referencing Rugby play.

In 2015, the Buckeyes ended the season with an appearance in the BTU 15’s Championship on November 14 in Rockford, Illinois with a loss to the University of Indiana 34-14; certainly a disappointment to a club that showed heart and determination all year.

In the season’s end graduated captain and 8-man Santino Cua, the 2014 Big 10 forward of the year along with All Big 10 honors – repeating these honors in 2015. With his loss, by all means, are big shoes to fill.

Names to know for this season

Derek Hess is a true freshman starting at hooker for the Buckeyes who came via Hudson High School in Ohio and was a member of the Ohio Celts All-Star team prior to his arrival in Columbus.

Spencer Kruger is another true freshman from John Hersey HS in Arlington Heights, IL. He will most likely be at flanker for the Buckeyes down the road but seemingly is needed at prop for the moment – being big enough for the position.

Senior lock Jack Bengel was named an honorable mention All-American by USA Rugby and All-Big 10 last year.

Brandon Heidinger and Danny Peyton are both guys that converted from centers to flankers.

Matt Stauder looks to be the Buckeyes best forward. He is very good defensively, in the air in lineouts, and with the ball in his hands in the open field – scoring the first try of the season against University of Cincinnati on September 9th, 2016.

And, of course, there is Taylor Hurff, a four year starter, moving from fly half to scrumhalf halfway through his college career. The New Jersey kid finished 2nd in the league in points last year as is the Buckeyes goal kicker. He was All-Big 10 in 2015.

Mike Matthews is in his second year as a starter and will be in his first year as the Buckeye’s fly half (basically the team’s QB – if a need for comparison is spinning for you).

Jamie Barlow is a senior transfer from Wheeling Jesuit University who is originally from Upper Arlington. He’s a strong kid with or without the ball. Definite all league candidate this year and a welcomed addition.
Aaron Thomas is the Buckeye’s Captain and has played wing and inside center for OSU but will move this year to outside center, giving the Buckeyes a great tandem with Barlow. He’d score three times against Cincinnati (09/09/16).

JoJo Eramo, my-my, what can we say about JoJo? He is the most electric open field player in the Big 10. He led the entire Big Ten last year in tries and was third in total points. At right wing he is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He romped against UC (09/09/16) with five scores and one against Bowling Green on 09/10/16. JoJo was All-Big 10 twice and a state champion running back for Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati.

Jack Walsh is on the left wing and indeed a candidate for notice. He is a steady player with tremendous heart.

Ronan Forestal is in his second year at OSU. He is also a returning All-Big 10 player.

The strength of this team is without question the backs, coached by Ron Bowers and Wes Campbell.

Hurff/Matthews/Barlow/Thomas/Walsh/Eramo/Forestal is as good of a combination as you’ll find in the Big 10. The Buckeyes major questions can be found among the forwards, who are coached by Tom Rooney, Aaron Weir and Mike Ziegler. Having to convert two centers to flankers and a flanker to prop is never good. But the Buckeyes are counting on some help from true freshman prop David Laney out of St. Xavier in Cincinnati – though this may be a while, as he is recovering from surgery this past summer.

The Buckeyes opened their season at Fred Beekman Park (Home) against the University of Cincinnati with a crushing defeat of the Bearcats 59-5.

The Buckeyes scored eleven tries in their opener for the 2016 campaign. JoJo Eramo nailed down five, team captain Aaron Thomas had a hat trick, Jack Walsh had a pair and Matt Stauder also added the first try of the match. Taylor Huff converted the first and fifth try in going two for seven on the night.

Cincinnati added the final try of the night.

The next weekend (this past – 09/10/16) the Buckeyes travelled to Cleveland’s St. Edward’s where they played Bowling Green. It wouldn’t be as pro missing. The Buckeyes led BG 16-14 at the half but couldn’t get anything going in the second, dropping match 26-16.

Ultimately, in the final analysis of things, the loss isn’t detrimental, as D1aRugby in-league play is the factoring to advancing nationally. Though the loss to BG only amounts to in-state bragging rights, it is the 2nd year in a row BG defeated the Buckeyes.

For those among you who are now climbing aboard the fantastic ride known as Rugby after the Olympics and Nate Ebner’s outstanding performance for the world to witness, I will give you a position lineup that serves purpose on the scoring: Memorize it. There will be a test next week ….(just teasing).

Position names:

1 and 3 = prop
2 = hooker
4 & 5 = lock
6 & 7 = flanker
8 = 8-man
9 = scrumhalf
10 = fly-half
11 & 14 = wings
12 = inside center
13 = outside center
15 = fullback

Here is also your 2016 The Ohio State University Men’s Rugby Roster:

tBBC NCAA Rule Book Needs Enema

NCAA Rule Book Needs Enema

eawoyrlityoov51j-150x150.jpg

I’ve often joked that when they go to give the world an enema, one end of the tube should be squarely inserted in Ann Arbor (the city, not some lady nobody knows about).

But I think I have found a better place. How about the NCAA rule book? Nothing is in more dire need of a cleansing right about now.

Remember the time former OSU basketball coach Randy Ayers committed a violation by offering condolences to recruit Damon Flint on the death of his mother during a non-contact period?

How about the cream cheese controversy, so sophomoric and idiotic that I refuse to delve back into it here. That’s what Google is for.

But what what happened to Charleston Southern’s football players last week, around 32 of them to be somewhat exact, takes the proverbial cake.

To refresh: The aforementioned number of players are in trouble because they allegedly used book money to buy things other than books from the university book store.

Or as the school said, “financial aid violations relative to book purchases.”

Allow running back Ben Robinson to tell the story, as it was posted on Facebook last week. Members of the team were “suspended for using book money to buy other things in the book store like pencils, binders, and electronics, out of our school bookstore. We would have left over book money and the workers in the bookstore advised us to spend the money because we would not get it back, so we did.”

Full disclosure, the school said student athletes may purchase books and school supplies with the financial aid provided to them to purchase books.

Pencils? OK.

Binders? Sure.

Electronics? Maybe not the best idea unless it’s an electronic device to help with actual school work and not listen to Bruce Springsteen.

No doubt the players got some bad advice from the workers and they should have checked with the compliance office first just to be safe.

But here is where the rules really need some soap and water, or at least some common sense. These players, 14 of whom sat out against Florida State last week and 18 of whom will sit out a future game, were not trying to pull a fast one on the NCAA.

They weren’t buying Rolexes or sports cars. So maybe they took an extra liberty or two IF they bought a radio or bag of chips. Or even a school flag or sweatshirt.

This is not the type of stuff with which the NCAA should be concerned. It should be more worried about crappy officiating and coaches eating boogers on national TV. It should be trying to figure out how to justify a nearly $2 million salary for its president and why more than four teams shouldn’t be in the playoffs.

The answer is simple.

Get the member schools to re-write and pass new rules and consequences. The NCAA doesn’t make the rules. It only enforces what the schools agree to.

These types of mistakes don’t deserve a suspension. I doubt Charleston Southern beats Florida State with all 32 players on the field at the same time. But the school should not have been whacked like it was.

Make the players return the items, if possible. Make them volunteer time as restitution. Go over the rule book with them. Make it mandatory a member of compliance goes with players to the bookstore.

But beans and rice, get that damn rule book fixed NOW. Insert common sense. Make the punishment fit the crime. If the intent to commit a serious violation is there, nail them.

If its something so minor as a few items from a bookstore, who cares? That won’t bankrupt the NCAA nor will it give Charleston Southern any type of on-the-field advantage.

It’s about what’s right. And what happened here was wrong.

The Buckeyes look to recruit a top 10 offensive guard to their 2018 class.

Bring the juice

An offer was sent out late Monday night to Frederick "Juice" Scruggs (Erie, PA /Cathedral Prep). Scruggs, a 2018 prospect, is currently rated as a top 200 player in his class and the No. 9 offensive guard. From Pennsylvania, Scruggs has great size at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds. He's a true road-grader in the trenches as he's able to move just about anyone off the line of scrimmage.

O-H…Beyond blessed and extremely excited to receive an offer from THE Ohio State University!! pic.twitter.com/kMp5ZstDg5

— Juice (@JuiceScruggs) September 13, 2016

Right now, it doesn't look as if Scruggs has any kind of list or "top" team. He holds 11 total offers as his recruitment is just starting to take off. Michigan State and Penn State are the other most notable offers that Scruggs holds. When it's all said and done, expect Pittsburgh to get involved here, too. The in-state teams will be tough to beat out, but no one is as good as Urban Meyer when it comes to going to to rival states and getting kids.

A brother Buckeye?

According to reports, Urban Meyer will have a serious talk with Marcus Hooker (New Castle, PA / New Castle) about becoming an Ohio State Buckeye. Marcus is the brother of current safety Malik Hooker. Hooker is another class of 2018 prospect and is a top 300 player who is rated as the No. 28 cornerback in his class.

Malik Hooker's brother Marcus Hooker says Urban Meyer told him they will talk after season about being a Buckeye VIP https://t.co/t07aDEWaoI

— Bill Kurelic (@Bill_Kurelic) September 13, 2016

Hooker attends New Castle High School, the same as Malik. Hooker presents elite cornerback size at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Though some say his raw athleticism isn't as high as Malik's, they say his football skills are more polished when comparing both of them at the same age. Still, expect Marcus Hooker to garner more attention on the recruiting trail as his junior season plays out – and expect more Big Ten teams to get involved in this recruitment.

Hooker does not hold an Ohio State offer, but that could change in the coming months. Right below is Marcus’ highlight reel.

Making a house visit

Moving onto the hardwood, Thad Matta is trying to make an inroad with the recruitment of four-star shooting guard Nojel Eastern. The Evanston Township (IL) hoopster is ranked as the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois, according to 247sports.

Big time schools are trying to win the services of Eastern; Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State join Ohio State as some of the programs vying to get the class of 2017 star. According to 247sports, Purdue Head Coach Matt Painter has already made his visit with the 6-foot-6 baller.

#Purdue HC Matt Painter visited 6'6" @NEblessed_20 today. Ohio St will have an in-home visit on Sunday or Monday pic.twitter.com/FVpoQKosYg

— Andrew Slater (@ASlater247) September 14, 2016

As you can tell from the tweet, the Buckeyes are slated to make a visit sometime over the weekend or early next week. If Matta was going to make a move in getting a top 100 player in Eastern, now is the time. Currently, a consensus of predictions have the Illinois basketball player taking his talents to East Lansing, Mich. and playing for Tom Izzo’s Spartans.

After two weeks of games in the books by both teams, their highly anticipated matchup with enormous College Football Playoff implications, is upon us. Ohio State and Oklahoma were voted as two of top Blueblood programs in college football. Both considered as college football royalty and both programs have illustrious and storied histories filled with Hall of Fame coaches, elite players and multiple championships between the two programs. Both coaches will looks to add to their legacy and they will go out there to secure a win at any cost. This is an exciting, yet scary matchup for either team considering the circumstances in which both teams are in. This game will also have a recruiting flare to it because the Buckeyes and the Sooners are vying for the same prospects on the recruiting trail. This is a high stakes, high pressure game and I am predicting an unforgettable atmosphere for the fans and the players on both sides of the spectrum.

Ohio State Buckeyes:

z-OSU-QB-RB.jpg

The Buckeyes enter the competition with Oklahoma 2-0 and are looking for another win to solidify their CFB Playoffs resume. Ohio State returned J.T. Barrett, Pat Elflein and Billy Price from last years team. They are breaking in three new Offensive Lineman and sometimes their youth and inexperience show along the perimeter. Couple that with a true freshman Guard in Michael Jordan (not his airness), it will take some time to get use to Barrett and the way he surgically operates the offensive juggernaut that Ohio State possesses. The lone question I have is can the younger members of the Buckeyes O-Line block the talent of the Sooner defense? Are they ready for the bright lights and the bump up in talent level? The Buckeyes are also attempting to find a suitable replacement for now Dallas Cowboy, Ezekiel Elliot in the offensive backfield along with a host of new offensive toys at receiver. Mike Weber is the new Cadillac Back at Ohio State and after his first two games, most Buckeyes fans cannot help but feel the excitement because he has the potential to be great. That and with the emergence of Curtis Samuel and Dontre Wilson, the future looks bright as the depth at receiver is something that a hardcore College Football fan cannot deny. They have reserves that can start at other schools. Division I schools. That says a lot and as players are recruited, sure they wait, but they are developed under the close and watchful eyes of the coach staff so their dreams could be realized once they receive their shot.

CS-4.png
Case and point, Dontre Wilson. He sat behind Braxton “B Button” Miller and was in and out with injury and once he was healthy enough to contribute he hasn’t looked back. He even performed the patented Buckeye Spin last week against Tulsa. It shows that the coaches can develop the talent into games and into men. Even if they want it to happen as soon as they arrive on campus, they need the patience to develop and follow the plan laid out in front of them by their position coaches and often times with help from their parents who have bought-in to the program and to the coaches that represent the university. Barrett and his array of weapons have amassed 1759 total yards on offense and Barrett accounts for 498 of those yards through the air for six touchdowns and 85 of those yards for 3 total rushes for six. Samuel isn’t too far behind with 162 yards and a touchdown on the ground and 14 receptions for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. Weber pitches in with 36 carries for 228 yards and a touchdown and Wilson went for 66 yards on the ground with a touchdown and 75 yards through the air and 2 touchdowns. Needless to say, the Buckeyes have a potent offense that could explode at a moments notice. Just give them the opportunity and the talent on the depth chart will show no matter who is placed in the game. Like I had mentioned, there is talent at the top and bottom of the offensive two deep and it is just about patience and opportunity. The next man up mentality reigns supreme in the land of wolves. With 21 offensive scores in the books, can the high-octane offensive attack keep up their end of the bargain against a tough Sooners defense?

z-OSU-D2.jpg
Ohio State began the season against the Bowling Green Falcons and the Tusla Golden Hurricanes, only returning 3 starters on defense, Middle Linebacker Raekwon McMillan, Defensive End Tyquan Lewis and Cornerback Gareon Conley. Although they aren’t the big name programs, they both pack experienced and potent offenses that can put points on the scoreboard and do it quickly. There had been a lot of speculation on how Coach Meyer and his staff would adapt and overcome the mass NFL Draft exodus that occurred after the 2015 season. With multiple vacated spots on both sides of the ball many discounted Coach Meyers ability to reload stating that the inexperience would cost them greatly. So far through two games against potent offenses, the young Buckeyes defense proved that they have the talent and depth to succeed. Sure, it was against Bowling Green and Tulsa, but last season they racked up the points and yardage and finished the season ranked 6th and 21st in the nation in scoring offense and 4th and 13th in total offense a season ago. The talent between last seasons team and this years is not as dire as most would expect it to be. The talent that they lost is irreplaceable, but Coach Meyer and company always seem to get the utmost best from their players who are patiently waiting in the wings for their opportunity. Getting younger isn’t always a bad thing because you will watch them develop, but at Ohio State, if you can play and you show the willingness and determination, you will play for the Scarlet and Gray.

z-OSU-MLB.jpg
The defense is young and inexperienced, but they have only allowed 1068 total yards in two games. Sure those aren’t good numbers, but I feel that they will improve upon as the season goes on as they learn to play with each other. They have held the previous two opponents to a 21.9% 3rd down conversion rate and have only allowed 2 field goals on offense. They have held opposing signal-callers to a 47.4% completion rating without surrendering a score to the opposing offense. The run stopping ability shows as the Buckeyes opponents are averaging 2 yards per rushing attempt and a total of 65 yards rushing per game. The lone touchdown was a pick-six on an errant pass from J.T. Barrett. The Buckeyes boast a stifling defense that has allowed 216 yards per game and has taken the ball away a total of 9 times and is +7 in turnovers this season. They gathered 7 interceptions, 3 for scores, forced and recovered 2 fumbles to go along with their 4 sacks. The Silver Bullets allowed 151 yards through the air and 65 through the ground as they looks ahead to their showdown against the Sooners and their high octane offense. Safety Malik Hooker, who attempted to leave the program due to insufficient playing time is the newly minted playmaker on defense registering 3 interceptions, one of which was for a score. Oft-injured Cornerback Marshon Lattimore made the most of his opportunity against Tulsa when he picked Senior Quarterback Dane Evans off twice, one of which went for a touchdown. Lattimore was hurt for the majority of his Buckeye career and at full health, he showed the coaches that he can be that playmaker that he once was in high school. Gareon Conley also pitched in with a pick, ripping the ball away from an unsuspecting receiver. True Freshman Rodjay Burns also made an impact when he took a Bowling Green pass 75 yards back to the house for a score. Playmakers exist on every level and although they have a lot of new starters, Raekwon McMillan is there to ensure that the new Bullets are up to speed and up to standard.

Oklahoma Sooners:

z-QB-RB.png

The Sooners come into the game 1-1, with their lone loss coming courtesy of former Urban Meyer Offensive Coordinator, Tom Herman and his Houston Cougars. The Sooners opened the season up as the #3 ranked team and they lost in heartbreaking fashion during the home opener. They followed up their poor showing with a offensive onslaught on the visiting UL Monroe Warhawks and rebounded with a resounding 59-17 victory to prepare for Ohio State when they come into Norman. Like all true away games, I fully expect some form of shenanigans from the Sooner faithful and from what I had heard, it will be a Stripped Out Crowd. I don’t know the exact details, but to each their own I guess. The Sooners have tallied up 1708 total yards on offense, 160 total yards less than the Buckeyes. Oklahoma scored 7 touchdowns through the air and 4 on the ground. Baker Mayfield leads the offense accompanied by his version of smash and dash, Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. The account for a combined total of 956 yards and 8 touchdowns of the 1033 and 18 offensive scores. That is a ton of points and yardage. The Sooners also have the ability to spread defenses with their spread attack. They have a big bodies, deep threat in Mark Andrews who stands at 6-5, 250 lbs and at one time while he was in high school, he had high interest in Ohio State prior to committing to the Sooners. Fate has brought both of these teams together for a showdown of the victor and the loser on the recruiting trial. Andrews caught 5 passes for 157 yards and 3 scores. Dede Westbrook is another stellar talent and he has caught 12 passes for 103 yards. Nick Basquine is also capable of scoring, catching 3 passes for 80 yards and a score. The only thing in question for the Sooners is can their young Offensive Line keep Baker Mayfield upright? The Sooner O-Line has given up 8 sacks for -38 yards in two games and with the Ohio State defense that thrives in pressuring the Quarterback, we will just have to see if they can gameplan for the constant pressure that Ohio State is known for. Oklahoma definitely has weapons and this game will be the true test for Ohio State’s young defense.

z-OU-D.jpg
On defense, the Sooners have given up a total of 1651 yards to opposing offenses. They have held opponents to a 59.7% completion rating and a 2.4 average on the ground. The Sooners are -1 in the turnover difference with zero interceptions and 2 recovered fumbles. The Sooners have given up 25 points per game and are looking to right the ship against a dual-threat Quarterback in J.T. Barrett. Oklahoma has only managed to sack opposing signal-callers four times and that is just as much as the Buckeyes have gotten to the Quarterback, so it evens out in the end. On third down the Sooners are giving up the conversion 47.8% of the time, which isn’t too shabby. They have returned few starters after the loss of Eric Striker and they are just as young and inexperienced as the Buckeyes. Linebacker Jordan Evans, Hybrid Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Defensive Backs William Johnson and Ahmad Thomas will be leading the charge racking up 50 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery between the four of them. Another recruit that was won over by the Sooners is Ricky DeBerry, one of the few recruits that got away from the Buckeyes. Who will end up making the key stop, the momentum swinging play? Who steps up to stop the Ohio State offensive attack? This is as high stakes as you could get and the game is going to be electric. With the home field advantage, the Sooners defense looks to salvage their season by upsetting the 3rd ranked Buckeyes in from of their home crowd.

Prediction:

z-QBS.jpg

I am truly torn. I am a homer and I would love Ohio State to beat the snot out of the Sooners, but this feels like an ambush waiting to happen. I am a humble fan and I want to remain objective and non-biased so I am predicting a close game throughout. The Quarterback duel will be epic. J.T. Barrett will dice up the shaky secondary for 300+ yards and 2 scores finding Samuel and Wilson for scores, but Baker Mayfield will match and exceed the passing total with 340 and match him with 2 scores of his own. Barrett will give the defense fits with the read option burning them for 100 yards and a score. Mike Weber will eat yardage early and often as he looks to soften up the defense and set them up for a play action deep pass. Weber will churn out another 100 yard performance with a touchdown. The Mixon/Perine combination will succeed in the beginning against the Buckeyes and gouge the defense for huge chunks of yardage. They will combine for 125 yards and 1 scores. Samuel and Wilson will find ways to make plays and they will combine for 150 yards. A newcomer will reveal himself to the nation, I am not sure who it will be, but he is coming. Andrews will be blanketed the entire game but he will overpower the younger DB’s but won’t score. That will leave opportunities for Basquine and Westbrook to score with one of them finding the endzone for a score. The Buckeye defense will seal the win with a pick-six or a key stop to end the game. Hooker will get a pick and the defense will sack Mayfield twice. The Oklahoma defense picks Barrett off twice and sacks him once. This will be a good ole’ barnburner (WWE’s J.T. voice), but the suspense will be consistent throughout. The crowd noise will be a factor early forcing the younger players into false starts, but they will get through it as the game goes on.

Final: 35-28 Ohio State
