A pair of Georgia natives earned a scholarship from the Buckeyes on Tuesday.

The Buckeyes picked up a big boom, locking in a verbal pledge from four-star defensive back Tyreke Johnson on Tuesday. Ohio State’s 19th commitment for 2018, Tyreke adds another standout to the next generation of Buckeyes.

While Johnson’s announcement might’ve been the biggest news of the day, there was plenty more that kept the Ohio State recruiting efforts in the headlines.

Georgia commits picks up OSU offer


Even though they’re still trying to close out the 2018 class off strong, the Ohio State coaching staff isn’t shying away from trying to secure top underclassmen from across the country.

On Tuesday morning, the Buckeyes dealt out a scholarship offer to one of the most sought-after prospects in the class of 2020.

Already verbally committed to the University of Georgia, defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse of Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, GA is the latest prospect Urban Meyer and crew are hoping to snag from the Peach State.


Stackhouse, a 6’3, 287-pound terror on the defensive line, helped Stephenson finish this season 8-4. Coming up big time and time again, he ended his sophomore campaign with 35 total tackles and 2.5 quarterback sacks for the Jaguars.

Building a pipeline into Georgia, Nazir isn’t the only Stephenson sophomore the Buckeyes are pursuing, as Ohio State also sent an offer out this week to his teammate, running back Deondre Jackson.

Buckeyes offer 4-star RB


Guess what? Another Georgia standout received a chance to continue his education and football playing days at Ohio State on Tuesday.

Also earning an opportunity to suit up for the Big Ten power was four-star rated running back/athlete Darrian Brown.


“Coach Urban Meyer called my coach and they talked on the phone. My coach called me into his office and told me I had got offered by Ohio State. It feels great. When I think of OSU I think of my favorite running back Ezekiel Elliott,” the 5’11, 174-pound, Brown told Land-Grant Holy Land.

A class of 2019 prospect, the Buford High speedster adds the Ohio State scholarship alongside programs such as Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, and Notre Dame.

When it comes to rankings, Brown is currently considered the 13th running back and 152nd overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

• Per Ari Wasserman of The Athletic, Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa checked in on class of 2018 five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman at Fairfield High (OH) on Tuesday. A key Buckeye target, OSU is trying to fight off the likes of USC and Clemson for his services.
• Urban Meyer and OSU quarterback coach Ryan Day made the trek to Franklin, GA to hold an in-home visit with 2018 quarterback commit Emory Jones. With Jones showing interest in other programs, the visit could be one of the last times the Buckeyes get to secure his signature later this month.
• Five-star 2018 linebacker Palaie Gaoteote will officially visit Ohio State this weekend. A longtime USC verbal commit, Urban Meyer and crew are looking to flip the Bishop Gorman (NV) product to join former Gales Tate Martell and Haskell Garrett in Columbus.

Finally got to watch the game on DVR and damn I am proud of the effort in that comeback. I even got a lesson in not giving up on a game and playing hard, I know that is going to pay huge dividends for our guys. The first half was about as ugly as it could get...horrible turnovers, atrocious defense, fouls, mental mistakes, etc. Then the second half (and the very end of the first) was a polar opposite. Excellent defense, inspired rebounding, took care of the ball...it was way more than just hitting shots, it was playing with a passion and excellent team effort. That being said, KBD and Tate just took the damn game over, really glad to see them do that. Also, I am starting to see enough from Caleb Wesson to get very excited about how good he can be. Also think Young is really starting to come on and get some confidence. Excellent win guys and of course, f*** *ichigan!

Ohio State’s commitment drought ends with a bang

It had been a quiet couple of months for Ohio State on the recruiting trail. With 18 commitments, Urban Meyer and his staff have been working on putting the final touches on an excellent 2018 class, and with the brand new early signing day approaching quickly, it’s about time for the final class to begin taking shape.

Just minutes ago, a huge domino fell, as Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.) safety Tyreke Johnson committed to Ohio State, the first recruit to join the class since Antwuan Jackson committed back in September.

247 Sports has Johnson ranked as the nation’s 38th best prospect, the seventh from the sunshine state, and the fifth best safety in the 2018 class.

Johnson had been talked about as a possibility for the Buckeyes for a number of weeks, though the rumors really started to pick up in the last couple weeks, as Johnson visited Columbus on October 28th, and has been in consistent contact with Greg Schiano and Kerry Coombs for more than a month.

Johnson was one of the biggest targets left for Ohio State in this class, and may very well be the final defensive back, as cornerbacks Anthony Cook, Patrick Surtain Jr, and Tyson Campbell all trend elsewhere. He joins fellow safeties Joshua Proctor and Jaiden Woodbey, as well as cornerbacks Marcus Hooker and Sevyn Banks. He’s the 19th member of the class, and increases Ohio State’s team rankings’ lead over Oklahoma and Miami.


Johnson committed to Ohio State via a nifty video, over his other finalists, Georgia, Clemson, Florida State and Clemson.

This commitment may be the first of the month for Ohio State, but it could be a very busy December, as the coaching staff has plenty of time to recruit between now and Ohio State’s Cotton Bowl match-up with USC.
