And it’s no longer open to the public or media.

The ultimate recruiting event for Ohio State football has hit a bit of a snag, with Friday Night Lights— scheduled for tonight— being moved indoors due to inclement weather. With storms barreling through Columbus most of the early-afternoon, it’s not that surprising that they would move the event inside.

It is surprising, however, that the move also means that the event will be closed to both the public and media. So, if you were planning on making the trip to campus, you should rethink your plans and find something else to do with your evening.

Ohio State’s public workout tonight at 4:30pm has been moved indoors and is no longer open to the public. Sadly, Friday Night Lights is also no longer open to the public per a release by Ohio State.

— Jeremy Birmingham (@Birm) June 22, 2018

This is one of the biggest recruiting events for the Buckeyes, and a couple of big name prospects were expected to commit after embracing the uniquely awesome environment of playing in The ‘Shoe. Now, a hundred-or-so high school players will make their way over to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for their OSU camp.

Now, it looks like Urban Meyer and his coaching staff will be trying to recreate an atmosphere that usually includes hundreds of fans on a random Friday during the summer, without any of that fan energy.

This weather-related hiccup shouldn’t prevent any prospect from committing, but it will certainly steal a little bit of the excitement had they done it under the lights. If and when players make their OSU pledges tonight from the Woody Hayes, we will make sure to let you know.

With the addition of KBD, the T’Wolves are going to be a fun team to watch next season.

After leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to a second-place conference finish, and NCAA Tournament appearance, forward Keita Bates-Diop finally heard his name called at the 2018 NBA Draft. The Normal, Ill., product went No. 48 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for KBD’s drafting into the association. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

It’s a stacked team in Minneapolis

While the T’Wolves made the postseason last year, they made it by the skin of their teeth as the No. 8-seed. Then, they ran into a very hot Houston Rockets squad and were dispatched in five games. But don’t let that result fool you: the squad Tom Thibodeau has in Minneapolis can win games.

Talent is in abundance for Minnesota. Jeff Teague and Jimmy Butler will be the scoring duo, and if Gorgui Dieng picks up production, those three will be the main figures in Minneapolis until at least 2020.

With Bates-Diop in the fold, he would be a good off-the-bench playmaker right now. Taj Gibson and Nemanja Bjelica appear to be the main forwards right now, meaning the T’Wolves will have to trade Andrew Wiggins or even Karl Anthony-Towns. If either Wiggins or KAT is delivered a one-way ticket out of Minny, the team still has talent. A potential trading of Anthony-Towns would hurt more than Wiggins, but there’s at least a solid nucleus to what Thibodeau has to build around.

Sliding to No. 48 will hurt KBD and his short-term earnings, but if he can keep a spot on the Timberwolves, he has the chance to develop under a proven coach in Thibs. As an assistant coach under Doc Rivers during the Boston Celtics “Big Three” era, Thibodeau helped bring a title to Beantown. While head coach of the Chicago Bulls, Thibodeau had the Bulls in contention to win the Eastern Conference. While adaption is needed to fit a Thibodeau system, KBD showed that he can transition into different coaching styles and circumstances while at Ohio State.

He has a solid foundation

Bates-Diop saw action in 30-plus games in three of the four seasons he was in Columbus. The only year he didn’t see the court for 30 games was in 2016-17; that year he was sidelined for 18 games with a stress fracture in his left leg. All of that game time built a solid foundation for KBD to become a star playmaker in Ohio State’s tournament run last season.

DraftExpress reports that Bates-Diop has a wingspan of 7-foot-4. That’s a pretty good thing to have in your arsenal—and it’s something that you either have or you don’t. Whether he needs to work down in the low post for rebounds and buckets, or find the open mid-range jumper, Bates-Diop uses that wingspan to make plays.

By the time KBD’s Buckeye career finished, he compiled 19 double-doubles—and in 18 of those games, Ohio State walked away victorious. The nucleus of OSU’s offense and defense last season, Bates-Diop had breakout performances in big-time games. Against then-No. 1 Michigan State, the forward collected 32 points and seven rebounds in a win. In the regular season finale against Indiana, KBD reached a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds in a double overtime win for the Bucks.

By being the leader on the court, Bates-Diop has put himself in a plethora of situations against some of the top teams in college basketball. Having sound fundamentals is something that is valued in the NBA. KBD has them, and it won’t be surprising when he succeeds.

The intangibles, he has

When Bates-Diop was on the floor last season, things just seemed to click when he was on a roll. The team played as a cohesive unit, and because of that, the Buckeyes ended the season with an impressive 25-9 record.

Going back to his sophomore year, the Normal, Ill., native was averaging 11.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game in the penultimate season with Thad Matta as head coach. But in 2017-18, in Chris Holtmann’s first season in Columbus, those numbers took a huge tick upward as he was averaging 19.8 points and 8.7 boards per contest.

When the mass exodus occurred during Matta’s final season (i.e. the departures of Austin Grandstaff, AJ Harris, Daniel Giddens, and Mickey Mitchell), KBD stayed on the team. No matter who was on the sideline—either as a coach or a teammate—there was a consistency: Bates-Diop came ready to play.

He’s open to challenges, and as his record shows, he tends to pass them with flying colors. Bates-Diop is the reigning Big Ten player of the year, and was selected Second-Team All-America by a number of outlets (AP, USBWA).

KBD has the right stuff to become a star in the NBA. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll know it when you see it.

The Buckeyes will host many of their top targets this weekend for their annual Friday Nigh Lights recruiting events.

Friday Night Lights Preview

Tonight marks the annual Ohio State Friday Night Lights recruiting event which always leads to loads of talent and usually a commitment or two in favor of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Usually slated for July, Ohio State, Mark Pantoni, and the rest of the coaching staff decided to move their popular event to June. The move now looks to be a brilliant idea. With the new NCAA recruiting calendar, the ability to host senior recruits for “official” visits is allowed starting in the Spring rather than the start of the recruit’s senior school year. Due to this, the Buckeyes know they can host their top targets at this highlighted event in hopes of securing pledges to add to an already impressive 2019 class.

With so many stars in attendance for tonight’s event, the “Boom” watch will be one to pay close attention to as this evening could be a special night.

The receivers situation

Ohio State’s current roster has a very complete receiver group that will once again bring a lot of experience to the field this coming fall. However, because that group is loaded with seniors, and perhaps a player or two who might leave early for the NFL Draft, Ohio State knows they need to find the “next man up” with their 2019 class. Starting off with a huge boom, the Buckeyes were able to invade Texas and land Garrett Wilson. The 5-star prospect would be a crown jewel for any recruiting piece, but Ohio State and Urban Meyer know that Garrett is just one of the high-powered offensive threats they need to land. Tonight may just take a step in that direction.

St. Louis receiver prospect Marcus Washington is one that has been long linked to the Buckeyes and Ohio State has no problem with that. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound receiver is the tenth ranked player at the position in the country and Missouri’s second best player. In attendance tonight, a commitment isn’t expected, but could happen. As things currently sit, Washington is set to announce his college decision on August 7, but with 100 percent of the 247sports crystal ball predictions in favor of the Buckeyes and Washington being on campus tonight, it’s not totally out of the question to think maybe there’s a possibility the excitement will cause Marcus to commit on hand and give the Buckeyes an early gift rather than waiting until August. Time will only tell and luckily, time is not far off.

Columbus tomorrow

— Marcus Washington (@_MarcusW11) June 21, 2018

The list doesn’t end with the previous mentioned Washington. In fact, the Buckeyes will also play host and roll out the red carpet to another Texas receiver, Elijah Higgins. Much like the committed Wilson, Higgins is also from the same city as Garrett, Austin, Texas. With the two being close friends and even 7-on-7 teammates, one would think this certainly doesn’t hurt Ohio State’s chances with Higgins as it’s more than logical to think that Wilson has been in his ear talking about and promoting his future school to a friend who also has the opportunity to suit up in the same uniform. The 17th best receiver in the country has a history with Stanford and the home state, Texas Longhorns, but Ohio State does of course have more than a puncher’s chance here with Higgins. Having Elijah in the Horseshoe tonight with the music going will surely have him feeling the Ohio State love. Because this is his official visit to Columbus, all of the stops will be pulled out and who knows, maybe the Buckeyes play the Texas “two-step” and get more than a solid pair of receivers for their 2019 class.

Ohio State OV Tomorrow!

Looks like a successful visit for Britt

Even though this evening is the highlight of the week and weekend for the Buckeyes, that doesn’t mean the rest of the week hasn’t been full steam ahead for other recruiting efforts. The staff was not only able to host their one-day camps last Saturday, but also play host this week, including yesterday to prospects from around the area looking to impress the Buckeye coaching staff. Yesterday, Indianapolis, Ind., native Justin Britt made the three hour drive east to check out the Ohio State football program and what they have to offer.

Awesome visit at The OHIO state university.. pic.twitter.com/jTk4mu4LJ5

— Justin Britt (@brittjus000) June 21, 2018

The 6-foot-4, 285 pound Britt is listed as an offensive guard and currently grades out as a 3-stat prospect. More specifically, Britt checks in as seventh best player from Indiana and the 17th best guard in the 2019 class. Probably most linked to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Justin also holds offers from the likes of Michigan State, Purdue, Louisville, Arizona, Cincinnati, and more. The Buckeyes have not entered this recruitment yet, but it’s not certain that they won’t eventually. Having Britt on campus yesterday was obviously a step in the right direction as far as a potential offer is considered, but further evaluation seems to be the factor right now. It’s important to note though, Britt sure seems to be interested as this visit, while not too far in distance is still on his own dime proving the Buckeyes have significance in his mind.

Friday Night Lights may just mean something more

The heading may give it away, but yesterday, an Odessa, Texas native in Peyton Powell announced that he would be making the long trip north to see Ohio State for Friday Night Lights. From the same school, Permian High, that produced the Friday Night Lights book and film, Peyton is a prospect sure to garner some attention this weekend. A 6-foot-2, 197 pound receiver, Powell’s ranking may not be truly indicative of how solid he actually is. Checking in as a 3-stat prospect and a top 40 receiver in the country, his offer list alone is worth noting. With over twenty schools in the mix, Powell has more than enough to choose from.

Columbus Ohio tomorrow ❕❗

— Peyton Powell (@PPowell_) June 22, 2018

Schools such as Nebraska, Virginia, Ole Miss, Baylor, TCU, and recently Texas have their offers already extended. With the Texas offer coming not even a month ago, that has many believing the Longhorns have the clear lead for his services. However, with a list that is complete and a surprise visit update in favor of Ohio State tonight, there’s no guarantee there’s a leader for Peyton. The Buckeyes do have their eyes on higher ranked prospects at the spot and do find themselves in great shape for multiple guys so their interest in Powell may be a bit of a slower pace. A solid performance in competition tonight though could have the staff thinking otherwise. We shall see very soon.

Quick Hits:

  • 3-star Missouri prospect, Etinosa Reuben takes his official visit to Ohio State starting today. Ranked as Missouri’s tenth best player, many believe Reuben to see a major increase in his ranking when all is said and done.
  • 2019 3-star WR, CJ Boone, also of St. Louis will unofficially visit Ohio State for FNL. The Buckeyes are in on two top St. Louis, Missouri area receivers already. Will Boone be a priority?
  • 2020 4-stat corner back, Miles Brooks of Trinity Christian Academy will be at Ohio State tonight. A school that has already produced multiple Buckeye players currently on the Ohio State roster, the staff would love that to continue. Brooks is already highly ranked as the sixth best corner for the 2020 class.

KBD is the first Buckeye to go in the NBA Draft since 2015.

While the line is not nearly as long or prodigious as with the football team, reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop became the 55th player in Ohio State history to be selected in the NBA Draft when the Minnesota Timberwolves took him with the No. 48 overall pick in the second round.

After being injured early in his third year in Columbus, KBD came back in 2017-18 to become one of the most well-rounded forces in college basketball while helping steady the ship as the Buckeyes welcomed in first-year head coach Chris Holtmann. In his redshirt junior season, Bates-Diop led the B1G with 19.8 points per game to go along with 8.7 rebounds (second in the conference), 1.6 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 0.9 steals.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward has shown tremendous athleticism, speed, and mobility for his size, something that should be valuable in the “positionless” NBA. While he will probably need to bulk up a little to battle with the pros down low, he is already a strong shooter, going for 48 percent from the floor last season and 79.4 percent from the free throw line. That should allow him to stretch the floor and create space for his new team.

Having earned his degree in Economics, KBD brings an intelligence and anticipation to the floor that allowed him to be an invaluable leader to the inexperienced Buckeyes last year. Bates-Diop’s physical and mental ability to play multiple positions on both offense and defense gives him the opportunity to have success at the next level.

Bates-Diop became the 11th Buckeye drafted that came to Columbus to play for former head coach Thad Matta, and eighth front-court player from that group. The last Buckeye selected was D’Angelo Russell who was taken second-overall by the Lakers in 2015.

Congrats to KBD, and it looks like we have a favorite team in the NBA— or at least until we figure out where LeBron is going.

LGHL Entering his sophomore season, Ohio State’s Musa Jallow hopes to find consistency

Entering his sophomore season, Ohio State’s Musa Jallow hopes to find consistency
Brett Ludwiczak

After getting limited minutes in his freshman year with the Buckeyes, Musa Jallow is looking for a bigger role this season.

“Definitely this year I want to be more consistent. I want to be able to produce on a consistent basis and have something I can hang my hat on for every single game.”

-Ohio State guard Musa Jallow via Adam Jardy, The Columbus Dispatch

After getting his feet wet at Ohio State by starting 10 games in his freshman year, Musa Jallow is looking for more consistency in his sophomore season. Jallow saw at least 19 minutes in each of his first nine games with the Buckeyes, but saw his minutes dwindle as the Buckeyes moved into Big Ten play. The best performance from Jallow came in the upset win over Purdue, where he hit three three-pointers, and finished with 10 points.

A big reason for increased optimism for Jallow heading into his sophomore season is because he was picked to participate in the United States’ U18 team camp earlier this month. Jallow was the only college player in the camp, and while he didn’t make the squad, he did earn positive reviews while he was in camp.

The year of college experience did help Jallow during camp, and the coaches told Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann how prepared Jallow was and how quick he was able to adapt to their teachings. Kansas head coach Bill Self is the coach of the U18 team, and the pace of the practices that Self ran was something Jallow was accustomed to, where some of the players still in high school weren’t as familiar with.

Even though he didn’t make the U18 squad, Jallow hopes the time he spent in camp will help to prepare him even more for his sophomore season. With the losses of veterans like Jae’Sean Tate and Keita Bates-Diop, plenty of minutes are up for grabs on the Ohio State roster, and Jallow is hoping to earn more this season and make an impact for the Buckeyes.

“They’ll start [fall camp] at Mike. I love the competition. All the positions are in such a strong battle, it’s so healthy. They’re all drive, they’re all helping each other.”

-Ohio State linebackers coach Bill Davis on linebackers Baron Browning and Justin Hilliard via Tony Gerdeman, The-Ozone

One of the biggest questions for Ohio State heading into the 2018 season is what is going to happen at the linebacker position. While Dante Booker is returning, the Buckeyes still have to figure out who is going to replace Chris Worley and Jerome Baker.

Tuf Borland was a prime candidate to fill one of those spots, but an Achilles injury that caused him to miss spring camp is giving other linebackers and opportunity to state their case. Baron Browning saw some time at middle linebacker last year to help him learn the defense better and ease the transition for an eventual move to one of the outside linebacker positions. Justin Hilliard is another linebacker who shared time in the middle during spring practices.

While Borland could be back for the start of the season, giving Browning and Hilliard some time at MLB gives Ohio State some added versatility in their linebacking corps, which could help the Buckeyes if any more injuries pop up. The depth at middle linebacker grew even more when Ohio State was able to bring in freshman Teradja Mitchell, who was the No. 2 inside linebacker recruit in the country.

What linebackers coach Bill Davis likes most about his group, is the competition he is seeing at all the position. The fight for playing time is bringing out the best of the young linebackers, and helping them to improve. If the growth of these linebackers continue, the group will recover from the losses of Baker and Worley quicker than many were expecting.

“The ball never stops bouncing. You can play basketball all year. That’s something I would like to do is play basketball all year round, stay in shape. But there’s also a time where you have to work on your body, recover.”

-Former Ohio State forward Marc Loving via Steve Slivka, WTVG-TV

As Keita Bates-Diop and Jae’Sean Tate are hoping to hear their named called in tonight’s NBA Draft, former Ohio State Buckeye Marc Loving is just hoping for a shot. Loving wasn’t drafted in last year’s NBA Draft, and spent last season with the Delaware 87ers in the NBA G-League.

Despite having opportunities to play basketball overseas, Loving is hoping to latch on with an NBA Summer League team and draw the interest of an NBA team so he can continue to play basketball in the United States. Last year Loving appeared in 29 games for the 87ers, averaging 6.1 points per game. Despite only seeing 17.6 minutes per game, he was able to play with former NBA players Emeka Okafor and Shannon Brown, and take in some of the lessons from the veterans.

As Loving works on what is the next step in his career, he recently was able to work with kids at a basketball camp at his St. John’s Jesuit, his alma mater in Toledo. One of the things he did impart on the youngsters is to put in time and effort in what you want to be good at, whether that be basketball or anything else. Loving is putting in the effort to try and kickstart his career, and hopefully it pays off for the former Buckeye soon.

The forward out of Ohio State is expected to hear his name called in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft

On Thursday night, Keita Bates-Diop is expected to hear his name called sometime during the first round of the NBA Draft. Bates-Diop, a member of Chris Holtmann’s inaugural team at Ohio State, was the catalyst to the Buckeyes getting back to the NCAA Tournament in 2018.

During his redshirt junior campaign of 2017-18, Bates-Diop shined. He was named Big Ten Player of the Week four times, National Player of the Week by the USBWA once, and was also one of 10 finalists for the Naismith Trophy.

Those accolades came with good reason. Throughout the course of the season, KBD had a double-double on 13 different occasions. On the road against Purdue and Indiana, he pulled down rebounds and put up points to cross the double-double plateau. And in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, Bates-Diop dropped 24 points on 12 boards against South Dakota State en route to an OSU win.

Against No. 1 Michigan State back on Jan. 7, KBD pulled together a 32-point outing, and put the Big Ten on notice that, yes, the Buckeyes were back. Without the Normal, Ill., prospect on last year’s team, the Buckeyes would’ve floundered.

Expectations weren’t high for Ohio State last season. A new coach combined with an exodus of talent via transfers created a bleak outlook for the Buckeyes: the cellar of the Big Ten.

But, that didn’t happen—and it’s thanks to the work of KBD.

While he isn’t projected to be a No. 1 pick, Bates-Diop has the intangibles to become a star at the professional level.

Strengths

KBD is 6-foot-7, and can do a little bit of everything well. He can work inside for a rebound and a putback; he can also pull-up a shot from three-point range if he needed to. Last season against Maryland, he went 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. As a total in 2017-18, Bates-Diop buried 66-of-184 three-pointers (35.9 percent).

Since Golden State started the new trend of an aerial assault from downtown, the “big man” can’t just be a rebound machine. The new-age forward has to get rebounds, be able to guard the perimeter and be able to launch shots from the perimeter, too. Bates-Diop has a little experience doing all those things, and will only build off that experience.

DraftExpress did a scouting report on KBD, and they hit the nail on the head in regards to his ability to play defense:

When Bates-Diop is fully engaged, he shows the ability to be a real stopper defensively, and has the quickness, perimeter mobility, and length to defend multiple positions, something which you can’t have enough of in today’s NBA.

If Bates-Diop has to go up and guard against a Stephen Curry or Jayson Tatum, he probably could do it. If KBD has to go down in the post and contest shots, I’m willing to believe that he’ll find ways to make blocks and/or stops.

On top of taking OSU to the tourney, Bates-Diop was Big Ten Player of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten. The conference was no joke this season, as Michigan ended up in the Final Four, and Purdue made a decent run in March. KBD put together a show in an elite conference, and I believe he’ll be able to do the same (with some decent coaching) in the NBA.

Weaknesses

In the final handful of games last season, Bates-Diop looked tired. That could’ve been for a number of different reasons—ranging from the condensed conference schedule, to having to be on the court for over 30 minutes for most of the games. However, there’s no denying that late-season KBD looked a lot different from the KBD that put on a clinic against Michigan State.

On top of the tiredness, there was also an inconsistency to Bates-Diop’s ability to score. At its worst, KBD was held to just six points against...Rutgers. In the tournament game against South Dakota State, Bates-Diop scored a respectable 24 points, however, it came off a 7-of-19 display from the field. On the defensive end, teams were able to crash the glass and get better looks around the floor against the Buckeyes.

It may be easier to suggest that as the season wore on, the Buckeyes as a whole just got tired. There’s probably some truth to that. But there’s also, I believe, some truth in that teams began focusing on Ohio State more as the season progressed. Remember, the Buckeyes weren’t a team on anybody’s radar. During the non-conference slate of games, Gonzaga, Clemson and North Carolina scored victories over the Buckeyes. However, once the Big Ten games heated up, OSU went on a run of nine-straight wins. Teams began adapting to KBD and the Buckeyes, and that’s when the cracks started to show on the armor.

His NBA.com draft combine analysis speaks a little about his inconsistencies on defense

Made an impact protecting the rim, rebounding out of his area, and guarding multiple positions when he was dialed in last season. Sense of urgency comes and goes, but tools shine in spurts.

Doing well in spurts may make KBD an excellent role player or sixth man. But with more conditioning and practice, Bates-Diop can get to a starting role.

A four-star RB has the Buckeyes on his early top-10 list.

The Ohio State Buckeyes signature recruiting event of the summer, Friday Night Lights, is happening in just a couple days. But before the marquee event takes place, the OSU coaching staff is still putting work in on the recruiting trail.

Earlier this week, recruits made the trek to Columbus for visits, and a handful of others placed the Scarlet and Gray on their lists of top schools. The trend of making the cut for top prospects continued again, as a four-star running back has the Buckeyes in his early top-10 list.

Back to the well?

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) has been a key Ohio State pipeline. Throughout the Urban Meyer years, the likes of Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Duron Carter and Trevon Grimes have made the move from the Sunshine State to the Buckeye State. Whether a member of the offense or defense, Meyer was able to recruit St. Thomas Aquinas stars to OSU.

Late Tuesday night, the Buckeyes found out—at least for right now—that they are in the right direction to gaining another member from that highly coveted pipeline. Daniel Carter, a member of the 2019 class, made his top-10 list known, and it includes a bevy of college football powerhouses.

Oregon, Miami (FL), Kansas State, Georgia, Utah, LSU, Texas, Pittsburgh and Illinois join OSU in the hunt for the four-star RB. The 5-foot-10 rusher holds over 25 offers, so this latest unveiling shows that he’s trimmed quite a few other top schools from his focus.

According to the 247sports composite, Carter comes in as the No. 356 prospect in his class, the No. 19 RB, and No. 49 prospect from the state of Florida. One early vote (back in February) was casted in the 247sports crystal ball for Miami to be the eventual landing spot for Carter; however, he just made an official visit to Pittsburgh on June 15.

The interesting thing about Carter’s list is that it’s not permanent. He notes that schools can be added or replaced on his list. I figure if one of his top schools gets a RB commitment from someone else, then it’s entirely possible to think that Carter could swap that program out for another. Schools like Auburn, Ole Miss, Maryland, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, who made offers to Carter but didn’t see their name at this stage of the recruitment, may not be entirely out of luck.

With the list not being completely set combined with an abundance of time before a commitment on paper has to be reached, the battle for Daniel Carter may be one to watch.

A top-8 spot for a PG

Chris Holtmann and his basketball staff were also out and about on the recruiting trail, too. Good news was announced just after noon on Wednesday, as class of 2019 four-star point guard Kyle Sturdivant (Norcross, GA / Norcross) made it known on Twitter that he had his college selection down to eight schools.

Ohio State made the cut, as did a handful of schools that are in close proximity to the 6-foot-3 PG. Home-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech made the list, as did Clemson, Ole Miss and Florida. While OSU is the most northern school on the list, they aren’t the furthest west. Both California and USC made the list as well, showing that the recruiting battle for Sturdivant has gone national.

And there’s a good reason why teams are battling it out to get his commitment. According to the 247sports composite, he’s the 120th best prospect in his class, 14th best PG, and 10th best player in Georgia. Twenty schools have already come knocking on his door with an offer, with notables Florida State and Xavier being left off the final eight.

There’s only four votes on the 247sports crystal ball for Sturdivant. Two of them geared toward USC; one each have been casted for Ohio State and Georgia Tech.

OSU making the top-8 for Sturdivant and getting one early crystal ball prediction seems like a good omen. We’ll keep you covered if Holtmann and the Buckeyes get any closer to landing this PG as their second member of the ‘19 class.
