Auburn star Tahaad Pettiford arrested on DUI charge

Auburn star Tahaad Pettiford, an SEC Player of the Year contender in 2025-26, was arrested early Saturday morning on a DUI charge in Lee County, Alabama, according to jail logs.

Pettiford was released midday, a source told ESPN, and is no longer listed as an inmate on the jail's log.

"We are aware of the situation, and we will handle it internally with Tahaad and his family," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement to ESPN on Saturday. "We take these matters seriously and will learn and grow from it moving forward."

The 19-year-old's arrest on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol comes just weeks after he withdrew from the NBA draft. Pettiford, who averaged 11.6 PPG in his freshman season for an Auburn team that secured the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and reached the Final Four, is the cornerstone of Auburn's next chapter after the departure of star Johni Broome.

Following his withdrawal from the draft, Pettiford said he returned to Auburn in part to prove that he can compete at the next level.

"I was happy to go through the process, getting feedback from NBA teams," Pettiford told ESPN then. "Going back to Auburn is a better situation for me. I see myself being a higher pick next year. It wasn't 100% this year, so I didn't want to take that chance."

Although he didn't receive the same buzz as some of the top freshmen in the country during the 2024-25 season, Pettiford was widely viewed as one of the best young players in the country.

Game Thread tOSU at Illinois, Sat. Oct. 11th, TBA

This year, Ohio State-Illinois and Purdue-Indiana celebrate the centennials of their traveling trophies. In 1925, the Buckeyes and Fighting Illini chose a live turtle to signify their long-lasting spirit of competition. The turtle died in 1927 and was replaced by the wooden Illibuck.

Illibuck is a trophy awarded to the winner of the college football rivalry between the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Ohio State Buckeyes football teams.

The Illibuck is a carved wooden turtle that serves as the trophy awarded to the winner of the game. Two junior honorary societies, Bucket and Dipper of Ohio State and Atius-Sachem of Illinois, are responsible for the care of the Illibuck. Originally the "trophy" was a live turtle when the tradition began in 1925, picked for its expected long life as a symbol of the anticipated long life of the rivalry. From 1919 to 1933, the Illinois–Ohio State game was the regular-season finale for both teams. Since the original turtle's death on April 14, 1926, ten wooden replica Illibucks have been carved, each with the scores from games on its back. The Illibuck is the second oldest trophy passed between Big Ten Conference football programs (the Little Brown Jug was created in 1903).

Just sayin': This year is the 100th year anniversary of the "Illibuck rivalry"......8D

2025 tOSU Offense Discussion

Haven’t looked through this thread to see how much this may have been said but, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a noticeable drop off in play calling from Chip to Brian. Brian can recruit like nobody and can develop very well but playing chess with an offense is a different skill set. Every year when we see weaknesses in the season I look back at my scarlet colored glasses and say to myself that I should have seen those weaknesses more clearly in the offseason.

For me, this year the biggest concerns are OC and the D Line. I think we will noticeably miss the 2 NFL running backs we had too but I think we can manage. Again, it all comes down to creativity in the play calling. That’s such a huge thing.

The passing game is going to be such a nightmare for opposing Ds to prepare for and execute against, especially if our OL plays as good as they should. I think this will allow the RBs we have to thrive, they all bring different skills sets and if used properly will be very good.
