O’Neal has a chance to be part of the Buckeyes’ 2018 class.

O'Neal gets OSU offer

Just days after adding 2018 safety Jaiden Woodbey (Upland, CA / St. John Bosco) to the fold, Ohio State went right back to the defensive secondary for their latest offer that came about on Wednesday. The newest recipient of that Buckeye offer is '18 S Leon O'Neal Jr. of Cy Springs (TX).

More Than Blessed To Receive An Offer From Ohio State University ⭕#GoBucks #WAKEEMUP pic.twitter.com/FB86h0zn27

— LeonNumbaNine#9 (@WakeEmUp9) February 8, 2017

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder had 18 offers under his belt prior to the Buckeyes joining the picture yesterday. While there is a long while until O'Neal Jr. has to make a final decision, Ohio State will have to beat out programs like Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and more if they want to pair him with Woodbey in the Scarlet and Gray.

O'Neal Jr., a four-star prospect, is currently penciled in as the 223rd best overall player in the class, according to 247sports. The Cypress native can also be found as the 18th highest graded safety and the 26th highest graded prospect in the state of Texas.

With Ohio State jumping into the mix for the blue-chip defensive back, we will see if the staff can now convince him to come to Columbus to check out the campus in the near future.

Cali to Columbus movement?

As mentioned above, Ohio State reeled in their third pledge for this year’s recruiting class when Woodbey of St. John Bosco (CA) announced his commitment to the Buckeyes. The four-star prospect is currently slotted as the fourth best player in the state and he believes he isn't going to be the last from California to head to Columbus and suit up for the Buckeyes.

CA➡️OH move is going to be real in 2018

— I AM JAIDEN WOODBEY™ (@JaidenWoodbey6) February 8, 2017

For now, there's four Cali prospects other than Woodbey that have secured offers from Ohio State—and all but one plays on the offensive side of the ball. 2018 running back Maurice Washington, a four-star prospect, could ultimately become a candidate to partner up with '18 Florida RB Brian Snead, who has been committed to the Buckeyes since July 2016. The other two would be '18 wide receivers Jalen Hall of Hawkins (CA) and Amon-Ra St. Brown of Mater Dei (CA) — two of the nation’s best pass-catchers. The lone defender outside of Woodbey is '18 linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu of Claremont (CA).

Obviously, the state is full of talented players and new offers could go out to more names in due time. It will be interesting to see if the commitment of Woodbey could turn California into the Texas of the 2017 recruiting class.

Kam Williams goes for a career-high in a sloppy victory.

On Wednesday night, the Ohio State Buckeyes (15-10, 5-7) won their second consecutive game for only the second time during the Big Ten season, outlasting the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (13-12, 2-10), 70-64. It wasn’t exactly a work of art, but Kam Williams led the Buckeyes to a much-needed, gutsy win.

The game was a sloppy malaise of out of control play and missed opportunities throughout. The teams combined for 26 turnovers (OSU- 15, Rutgers 11) and 41 fouls (OSU- 19, Rutgers 22). Despite controlling the first half, the Buckeyes were never able to put enough distance between them and Rutgers to feel comfortable, and it nearly came back to bite them in the final minutes.

A pair of back-to-back threes, from Marc Loving and Williams, five minutes into the game gave Ohio State its first lead at 10-8.

With 12 minutes remaining in the first half, Loving was at the bottom of a pile under the basket and received a shoe to the left eyebrow, and had to go to the locker room to receive stitches. He did not return to the game until after the under-four minute timeout.

Despite being one of the team’s best three players during the Big Ten season, OSU was able to extend its lead with Loving off of the floor. With seven minutes remaining in the half, they led 25-16, on the strength of Jae-Sean Tate and Trevor Thompson’s efforts.

Tate had gone 3-3 from the field and the free-throw line for nine points, and Thompson had picked up six points on 3-4 shooting, in addition to four rebounds.

C.J. Jackson was back in the starting lineup for the Buckeyes, spelling JaQuan Lyle who is still dealing with a nagging ankle injury. However, with five minutes left in the first half, after scoring two points, Jackson picked up his third and went to the bench. Lyle was scoreless in 12 minutes of first half action.

At the break, OSU led 33-27, as they went nearly three minutes without a field goal to close out the half. The Buckeyes held a 20-12 rebounding advantage, as both teams shot 46% from the field. Rutgers came into the game leading the Big Ten in total rebounding. Their 1,012 boards ranked eighth nationally, Ohio State’s 914 were 77th.

The teams combined for 16 turnovers (OSU- 9, Rutgers 7) and 15 fouls (OSU- 8, Rutgers 7) in the first half.

After 20 minutes, Rutgers was led by sophomore guard Corey Sanders, who had six points. However, seven other Scarlet Knights had scored. Tate led all scorers with 11, Thompson had eight, and Williams chipped in with seven.

Just a few minutes into the second half, OSU took its biggest lead of the game on a Jackson three-pointed that pushed the score to 40-29. However, from that point, Rutgers continued to chip away, getting their deficit down to just four, 45-41, with just under 13:00 minutes remaining in the half.

Up 49-43 with 11:29 left in regulation Rutgers freshman Issa Thiam picked off a Buckeye pass, and as he raced, uncontested, towards the basket, Thompson immediately grabbed him, and was whistled for an intentional foul. Thiam hit both free-throws, but the Scarlet Knights were unable to convert on the ensuing possession.

However, a minute and a half later, Sanders drove to the basket in transition and was fouled by Jackson. Sanders hit the layup and completed the old-fashioned three-point play, making the score 49-48 in favor of the Buckeyes. Rutgers’ Mike Williams hit a jumper with 9:30 remaining to tie the score at 50.

After fouling Kam Williams in the act of shooting a three (Williams hit all three FTs) and committing a player control foul on the subsequent possession, Sanders fouled out with 4:49 remaining. He finished with 17 points in 27 minutes of action. Williams finished with a career-high 23 points.

The teams continued to go back and forth in the remaining minutes. With 1:18 remaining, Thiam got a put back to tie the score at 62, but on the following possession, Williams put the Buckeyes back in the lead as he was fouled while shooting a three. He completed the four-point play to put the Buckeyes up 66-62. While it was dicey until the end, OSU would not give up that lead.

The Buckeyes will return to the hardwood on Saturday in College Park, Maryland at 4:00 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

3 things we learned

1) Kam Williams came to play. While Jae’Sean Tate and Trevor Thompson have received the majority of the limited love directed at the team this year, since the calendar turned to 2017, Kam Williams has made himself into a vital cog in the sometimes puttering machine that is the Ohio State basketball team.

Seeing occasional sparks from the likes of Williams, JaQuan Lyle, and Marc Loving is somewhat bittersweet, as it makes you wonder what could have been if they had all figured out how to play their best at the same time.

2) Trevor Thompson’s improved free-throw shooting is a valuable weapon. In Thad Matta’s tenure as the head coach in Columbus, one of the most consistent complaints about the on-court play has been their inability to make the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line.

Coming into the game against Rutgers on Wednesday, the 2016-2017 Buckeyes were shooting 67.9% from the line, 236th in the country. However, the Buckeye big man, Trevor Thompson has been one of the team’s most reliable forces at the stripe.

Coming into the game, he was shooting 71.9%, but against Rutgers, he was 5-6, the most makes for any Buckeye on the game.

3) The season is not completely lost. Yes, I admit, barring an inconceivable Big Ten Tournament run, OSU has nearly zero chance of making the NCAA Tournament, a substantial disappointment for a team that got used to being in the Big Dance annually.

However, with their 15th win of the season, some of the team’s other goals are still within reach. With six regular season games remaining, in addition to the B1G Tournament, and a potential NIT (or CBI) berth, the Buckeyes have at least eight games remaining, with more possible based on post-season wins. If Ohio State can pick up five more W’s, that would insure the 17th 20-win season is head coach Thad Matta’s 17-year coaching career.

While that doesn’t come anywhere close to comparing to a Big Ten Title, or a Final Four run, at least it’s something substantive to give the Buckeyes to play towards in an otherwise lost season.

The Hall of Famer is a great friend to Zeke.

“As a 21-year-old star with the Indianapolis Colts, Marshall Faulk would've loved to have had the kind of relationship with someone that he has with Ezekiel Elliott.”

- Jean-Jacques Taylor, ESPN

Ezekiel Elliott had one of the best rookie seasons by a running back in NFL history this past season. He hasn’t done it entirely alone, as he’s had some guidance from Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. Faulk has been friends with Elliott since Elliott was in high school in St. Louis. That continued while Elliott was at Ohio State, and of course, into his pro career with the Cowboys. But Faulk doesn’t like looking at himself as a mentor. "I hate to use the word mentor," Faulk said. "We have a friendship. There are things he trusts me with and that he'll ask about -- and even if he doesn't ask, I'll drop it by him.”

Faulk does it in part because he wishes somebody had done it for him. "For me, it's more or less, it's what I wish I had when I entered the league as a rookie." Elliott’s dad Stacy is extremely appreciative of what Faulk has provided for his son. "To even have Marshall, a student of the game, be a mentor to Ezekiel and have him mirroring Marshall is really a beautiful thing." We all want to see Elliott succeed in the NFL. He was great to watch at Ohio State, and is a fun personality. You may not root for the Cowboys on Sundays, but it never hurts to see Zeke out there eating.

“It's been nearly a decade since Ohio State has signed a pair of offensive linemen like Wyatt Davis and Josh Myers.”

- Bill Landis, Northeast Ohio Media Group

Davis and Myers are the best offensive lineman Urban Meyer has signed since he’s been at Ohio State. Considering some of the great linemen that have come through Columbus, that’s a pretty amazing feat. There’s also a chance that they can compete for starting spots immediately. "They're both from excellent programs," Meyer said on National Signing Day, via Landis. "They're both very disciplined, mature people. Man, they're blessed. They're big. They're not -- usually guys that big are fat-big, but these guys aren't fat-big, they're big-big."

Meyer praised both players individually as well. "Josh Myers is absolutely killing it in the weight room right now. He's going to be in the mix," Meyer said. He was high on Davis’ promise as well. "Wyatt Davis, I went out watching him practice," Meyer said. "Wonderful high school program, one of the best programs in America. I don't want to say he's ready-made because that's not fair for him, but that's how much respect we have for the Bosco football program." Offensive line play gets past the average fan, but the additions of Myers and Davis could be huge for Ohio State moving forward if they live up to expectations. It’ll pay off even more when J.T. Barrett’s successor takes over after next season.

Akron’s Warren Ball Receives 6th Year of Eligibilityhttps://t.co/vxVGsqRx8E pic.twitter.com/Vn5tx1YhQo

— Akron Zips Football (@ZipsFB) February 8, 2017

Former Ohio State running back Warren Ball graduate transferred to Akron in February of 2016. Ball rushed for 189 yards on 41 carries in his three seasons in Columbus. With players like Carlos Hyde and Ezekiel Elliott in front of him along with injuries, it was tough for Ball to get into the mix. For Akron, he started the first two games of the 2016 season. He totaled 181 yards and a touchdown on just 25 attempts.

Wednesday, he was granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA, because of a season-ending injury last fall. Zips head coach Terry Bowden was happy about the news. "We are extremely happy that Warren will continue as a member of our team," Bowden said. "His leadership on and off the field has been a tremendous asset so far, and we look for his continued contributions to our success." Hopefully Ball is able to capitalize off of the extra year, and stay healthy.

And the 2018 class will be a good place to start.

Last Wednesday, Ohio State put the finishing touches on its historic recruiting class by adding ‘17 OT Thayer Munford of Massillon Washington (OH). The class featured a handful of five-star prospects, 14 four-star players, and just two three-stars. In his National Signing Day presser, Urban Meyer raved about the class and the potential of it becoming very special.

However, Meyer had an interesting response in regards to recruiting the state of Ohio. On Signing Day, the Buckeyes receiver signatures from just seven in-state prospects — Jerron Cage, Jaylen Harris, Munford, Josh Myers, Amir Riep, Brendon White, and Marcus Williamson. At a press conference last week, Meyer was asked if taking just seven Ohio kids in the cycle was enough.

No, it's not. No, 50 percent is kind of the mark that I've been trying to -- I keep it right in front of me and I stare at it and make sure that we're doing right.

When Ohio State’s Director of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni was asked about the low number of Ohioans, he echoed the same sentiments:

No, it wasn't, not enough Ohio. That's something we want our percentage to be much higher on. There's too much talent in this state, but at the same time, we're also searching for the best players in the country.

We always have to keep reminding ourselves Ohio kids are our first priority. They will be. Sometimes we probably over evaluate them because those are the kids we get to camp so many times, we know all about, versus a kid out of state. Trust me, we place so much emphasis on the state of Ohio and we're going to continue to and do our best to get the best players out of the state of Ohio.

As we fast forward to the 2018 recruiting cycle, much like Ohio State has, this is a good year to bounce back and reel in much more homegrown talent to the Scarlet and Gray. Let’s take a look at the current Top 10 players in the state and see how the Buckeyes stand in their respective recruitments.

Jackson Carman, OT, Fairfield

First things first, not only is Carman the top graded player in the state of Ohio, he is also one of the best in the entire country. The five-star prospect is currently pegged as the eighth highest rated recruit in the class and the best at his position. The Buckeyes initially began pursuing Carman back in mid-December of 2015, when they offered him a scholarship. Since receiving the offer, the 6’6, 290-pounder has made nine trips to check out the campus. Carman even made one visit prior to reeling in that offer from Ohio State. That alone should speak volumes on the interest that Carman has in the Buckeyes. It’s no surprise why 100% of predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball have him pegged to the play in Columbus.

Jaelen Gill, RB, Westerville South

Gill comes in graded as a four-star prospect and already holds over two dozen offers to his name. Programs such as Florida, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, and many more are hopeful to bring him into the fold much like the Buckeyes are. The good news here for Ohio State is Gill, just like Carman, is widely expected to land in Columbus.

L’Christian Smith, ATH, Wayne

Despite not devoting his full attention to the gridiron — Smith is also a standout basketball player — the 6’6, 205-pound athlete is already recognized as one of the best players in the state. While Smith is listed as an athlete, it’s fully expected that the four-star prospect will enter college as a wide receiver if he decides to focus on football. If Ohio State’s recent trend of securing tall, lengthy pass-catchers stands, Smith should be a must-get target for the Buckeyes. As of now, race for Smith seems to be between Ohio State and Michigan State. That could very well change as more offers will certainly come down the pipe for Smith.

Dallas Gant, LB, St. John’s Jesuit

Gant is a prospect that Ohio State would love to add on the defensive side of the ball. The thing to watch here is the fact that the Buckeyes no longer have Luke Fickell on their staff, as he took the head coaching gig at Cincinnati. Despite the fact that offensive line coach Greg Studwara is Gant’s primary recruiter, he and Fickell — who would have been his position coach had he chose Ohio State — enjoyed a great relationship. It will be vital for new linebacker coach Bill Davis to build a bond with the 6’3, 201-pounder. Until then, you can’t count out Notre Dame in this race. But for now, I like the positioning here for the Scarlet and Gray.

Leonard Taylor, TE/DL, Springfield

Taylor, who was once pledged to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, is currently graded as the eighth-best tight end in the country. However, Taylor could very well find his living in college along the defensive line. All in all, Ohio State is in a good spot to be the beneficiary of the four-star prospect’s decommitment from Michigan back in August. Taylor was last on campus in late November when the home team outlasted their rivals in double overtime.

Joseph Scates, WR, Dunbar

Much like Smith, Scates is a blue-chip receiver. The Dayton native stands 6'3 and weighs 175 pounds, and he has caught offers from 13 programs to this point. At the moment, Ohio State isn't one of them. Scates is currently committed to Michigan State as of mid-January. We will have to wait and see if the Buckeyes eventually do offer him and if it would change anything for the four-star prospect.

Tyreke Smith, DE, Cleveland Heights

On the other hand, Smith — who is now former teammates with '17 WR signee Jaylen Harris — does have an offer from Ohio State. Smith has also garnered national recognition; Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and USC are just a few programs that are in pursuit of the Cleveland standout. Not long ago, the Nittany Lions seemed to be in the lead for Smith. However, once the Buckeyes offered, things seemed to take a turn. Right now, Ohio State owns 77% of predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Xavier Henderson, ATH, Pickerington Central

Henderson is currently committed to the Spartans and has been for quite some time now. The 6'0, 189-pounder gave his pledge to Mark Dantonio back in September of last year. With that being said, despite not having an offer from Ohio State, I would not count out the Buckeyes here. Obviously, that offer will have to come and I think it will sooner rather than later.

Trenton Gillison, TE, Pickerington Central

Gillison is yet another Ohio prospect that has already given his pledge to Michigan State, which has obviously gotten off to a tremendous start in the state. Much like Scates and Henderson, he has not been offered by OSU yet and depending on what happens at the TE position, it may not come. Ohio State is in good shape right now with '18 TE Jeremy Ruckert. If things don't come to fruition with Ruckert, Gillison may get an offer. It wouldn't be a shocker for Gillison to explore the option of playing at home for the Buckeyes.

Brenden Bates, TE, Moeller

Some fine offers have already came in for Bates, a Cincinnati resident. The Bearcats, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and more have extended scholarships to the towering 6'5 tight end. However, outside of Ohio State whiffing on multiple targets at the position, I don’t see Bates in Columbus.

Others that have offers

In a surprise to no one, Ohio has talent in cities all across the state. So, while the names listed above are graded as the Top 10 players in the state for now, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, there is many others to watch. Here are some Ohioans that are outside of the Top 10 that have already received offers from the Buckeyes.

Aeneas Hawkins, DT, Moeller — It didn't take long for this kid to become a highly-touted player from programs across the country. Despite being graded as a three-star, Hawkins has corralled offers from some of the best in the country. The 247Sports Crystal Ball says Ohio State is on top with five predictions going their way.

Christopher Oats, LB, Winton Woods — First off, I would undoubtedly say that Oats is and will be ranked as a Top 10 Ohioan when it is all said and done. I also love where the Buckeyes stand with the 6'4, 215-pounder. Oats has plenty of options as offers continue to come in. One source relayed to me that Oats is mostly focused on Cincinnati, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Ohio State, and Ole Miss for now. Personally, I think this is more of a when and not if situation for the Scarlet and Gray. I think Oats will be a Buckeye come February of 2018.

The former Ohio State offensive lineman is hoping to stay in New England next season and beyond.

Just days after enjoying the New England Patriots’ seemingly miraculous win in Super Bowl LI, offensive lineman Chase Farris — who spent the 2016 season on the Pats’ practice squad — was re-signed by the team to a futures contract.

While the details of his new deal haven’t been ironed out, this is the team’s way of keeping Farris in New England for potentially at least one or two more seasons. The lineman made $174,000 last season, and will only build on that price point should he see time on the active roster.

Farris was signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent coming out of the 2016 NFL Draft, but was waived in late August. He spent the next few weeks on the Lions practice squad, before being released and signing with the Patriots on Oct. 5.

He became one of only 11 Buckeyes to win a National Championship with Ohio State and then a Super Bowl win in the NFL.

The lineman started his collegiate career on the defensive side of the ball, before transitioning to offense ahead of his junior campaign. He earned the starting role at right tackle his senior season, before making his way to the NFL.

The Buckeyes hope to bring their newfound momentum home to Columbus.

Ohio State’s 70-66 win over Michigan Saturday was a spark that has potential to light a flame for what is left of their conference schedule. It was a surprise. It was unexpected. But it was a win--the Buckeyes’ first in Ann Arbor since 2011.

It was one of the strongest defensive performances for the Buckeyes against one of the most potent offensive teams in the Big Ten, holding Michigan, which averages nearly 47 percent shooting from the field, to 37.3 percent. Michigan also got into significant foul trouble, sending the Buckeyes to the free throw line for 28 attempts (more on that effort below). Thad Matta used a variety of looks in the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan, relying on an eight-man rotation and getting significant minutes off the bench. But perhaps what is most impressive is that Ohio State overcame an 11-point first half deficit against a strong opponent while facing a formidable home crowd for Michigan.

“We played through adversity,” said senior forward Marc Loving. “They came out with a fantastic punch in the first couple minutes, but we were able to recover. It’s not going to be perfect, but I’m happy we competed for the full 40-minutes.”

That engagement is something that Ohio State will need to focus on as they head back to Columbus to take on Rutgers--a team which took 15th-ranked Wisconsin to overtime less than two weeks ago. The Scarlet Knights are also coming off their first-ever Big Ten road win against Penn State after going 0-23 in away matchups in their first two seasons in the conference. After opening Big Ten play 0-6, the Scarlet Knights have won just two conference matchups and are dead last in Big Ten standings.

Rutgers is carried by their defense under first-year head coach Steve Pikiell, who brought down points allowed per game from 81 in the 2015-16 season to just 66.3 this year. While they still have a lot of growing to do before being truly competitive in the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights still have hopes of an NIT Tournament bid left to play for this season.

After a close, emotional road win, Ohio State will need to refocus its efforts and continue to play improved basketball as the team returns home against Rutgers.

Numbers to know

15.17

The Scarlet Knights average more than 15 offensive rebounds per game, which is good for third in the NCAA. Last season, Rutgers finished 249th in the same category. Ohio State, meanwhile, has averaged just 10.67 offensive boards per game on the season. However, things are looking up for Matta’s squad. Though Matta said “We were shooting so poorly, there were a lot of opportunities,” Ohio State dominated the rebound battle against Michigan by a decisive 42-24 margin. The Buckeyes had nine more each offensive and defensive rebounds Saturday versus the Wolverines, led by center Trevor Thompson who pulled down 11 on his own.

85.7%

Overall, Ohio State managed to improve in many of the areas that have been plaguing them for the duration of the season Saturday, including shooting free throws. Ohio State was nearly 86 percent from the line, hitting 24-of-28 attempts against Michigan, despite averaging under 68 percent on the season. Still, Rutgers holds an even worse mark from the charity stripe, averaging just 62.5 percent from the line. Ohio State has found itself in many close games this season and, Saturday, improved free throw shooting proved to be the difference maker. The Buckeyes will need to continue this trend not only against Rutgers but down the stretch for the rest of conference play.

0.8

The Scarlet Knights’ assist-to-turnover ratio is the worst in the Big Ten, as they average just 11.6 assists per game (13th in the conference) and 14.3 turnovers per game (second-highest in the conference). While Ohio State doesn’t exactly maintain possession effectively, averaging 13 turnovers per game and recording 16 against Michigan Saturday, the Buckeyes are sitting at a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, led by JaQuan Lyle’s 5.1 assists per game. Lyle himself boasts a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio--the best on the team and 10th-best in the conference. Ohio State will need to clean up its own turnovers and continue to rely on Lyle and fellow point guard C.J. Jackson to dish the ball effectively.

Cast of characters

Ohio State

C.J. Jackson

Earning his first career start in place of the injured JaQuan Lyle Saturday, the 6-foot-1 point guard scored eight points in 28 minutes versus Michigan. He also provided an engaged presence on defense and on the offensive boards, pulling down eight total rebounds. While Jackson has often been pulled in when Lyle has been struggling, a healthy Jackson and Lyle (who played 23 minutes Saturday) together on the court offer a good lineup for Ohio State to go small when the situation deems it. Especially without that go-to scorer on the roster for the Buckeyes, Jackson’s contributions on the court cannot be discounted.

Marc Loving

The senior forward led the Buckeyes with 17 points against the Wolverines. Even with Matta rotating the lineup significantly, Loving still played a team-high 36 minutes in their win. He went 3-for-7 from three point range, and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. And though he only went 4-for-12 from the field, he hit a crucial jumper in the final two minutes to put the Buckeyes up by two. On the season, Loving is averaging 11.9 points per game, second on the team behind Jae’Sean Tate. He has also stepped up his intensity in recent weeks--something that the Buckeyes will need him to keep up down the stretch.

Rutgers

Corey Sanders

The 6-foot-2 guard opted to return to Rutgers for his sophomore season after briefly considering leaving Piscataway for the NBA at the end of last season. Saturday, he played 39 minutes against Penn State, leading the Scarlet Knights with 25 points on the night. He was also the hero of Rutgers’ first conference win of the year over Nebraska, hitting a last second shot to give the Scarlet Knights the victory. He leads Rutgers in scoring and assists on the season, averaging 13 points and 3.4 assists per game for a team which scores just 67 points per game.

Deshawn Freeman

The power forward has dropped some weight since last season, in which he missed the final 25 games with a knee injury, coming in at 6-foot-7, 225-pounds this year. The junior has been a big part of Rutgers’ success on the boards: he is second in the Big Ten in offensive rebounds, averaging 3.3 per game (he is also sixth in the conference in defensive rebounds, with 5.2 per game). He is hitting nearly 50 percent of his attempts from the field on his way to averaging 11.5 points per game.

LGHL Ohio State makes 2 offers to linebackers in 2018 class

Ohio State makes 2 offers to linebackers in 2018 class

The Buckeyes aren’t fooling around in their attempt to add another member to next year’s class.

You get an offer...

Ohio State sent out an offer to 2018 linebacker Payton Wilson (Hillsborough, NC / Orange) on Tuesday. Wilson, who stands at 6-foot-4 and checks in at over 220 pounds, is one of the most physically gifted linebackers in the country’s 2018 class. According to 247Sports, Wilson is a three-star prospect—but don’t let that fool you.

I would also like to thank @OhioStateFB for the offer! @RivalsFriedman @MClarkScout @Boss_Martin247 @NCPreps pic.twitter.com/UfToEVZ1Fk

— Payton Wilson (@payton_wilson21) February 7, 2017

Wilson is still in the process of breaking through on the recruiting trail and we’ll likely see a huge jump in his overall ranking as we get closer to summer, as he’s evaluated more. From North Carolina, Wilson holds 17 total offers that include the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

In addition to being a freak on the football field, Wilson is also a standout wrestler at his high school. The Buckeyes will look to add a couple linebackers in this year’s cycle, and getting on Wilson early was a must. Ohio State will look to get Wilson on campus sometime this spring/summer before his senior year starts. Ohio State has done well on the east coast the last few years and will look to continue that trend for the 2018 class.

Below is a highlight clip of Wilson’s junior season, uploaded to Hudl.

...and you get an offer!

Urban Meyer and his staff offered another three-star prospect on Tuesday afternoon; this one going to outside linebacker Jesse Luketa. Luketa, who attends high school in Pennsylvania, is currently a Penn State commit. Like Wilson, Luketa has yet to be evaluated by most recruiting sites and should see his ranking rise over the next couple of months.

Thankful to have received an offer from Ohio State ️#GoBucks pic.twitter.com/bUrvlK2LYC

— Jesse Luketa (@OttawasVeryOwn) February 7, 2017

At 6-foot-3, Luketa holds 23 offers from high-profiled schools in LSU, Michigan and Pittsburgh. Luketa just recently committed to Penn State, so this is a battle that should go for some time. It’s always tough to pull one of Pennsylvania’s best out of the state, but the Buckeyes have done it before. New linebacker coach Bill Davis was in to see Luketa at the end of January and will continue to make that relationship stronger as each day passes. Ohio State will push to get Luketa on campus before his senior season.

On Hudl, there is a highlight reel from Luketa’s junior season. The reel is below
