Multiple Buckeye targets commit to play in the Under Armour All-American game,

With the Ohio State Buckeyes spring practices set to begin today, the coaching staff is hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. One with lofty expectations, this off-season will be important for the Buckeye football program.

The coaching staff will be tasked with replacing historic talent on the gridiron, but Urban Meyer is well prepared. Bringing in elite recruiting classes the past two years, there is sure to be undiscovered talent waiting to find its way on the field.

While the Ohio State coaching staff took a break from recruiting Monday for obvious reasons, a couple Buckeye targets made some big announcements regarding their last year of high school football.

Ohio State targets commit to Under Armour All-American Game

Ohio State offensive tackle target Harry Miller (Buford, GA / Buford) announced over the weekend on that he will be partaking in the prestigious Under Armour All-American game in January 2019.

Commited to the Under Armour All-American game!!! @AllAmericaGame @therealkwat @ChadSimmons_ @DemetricDWarren pic.twitter.com/w6by0ULVZl

— Harry Miller (@harrymiller76) March 4, 2018

The four-star tackle is ranked as the No. 11 tackle in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, to go along with being the No. 63 overall prospect. Miller is also the No. 8 ranked prospect in the talent-rich state of Georgia.

Miller recently included Ohio State in his top five schools, along with Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame and Stanford. He is coming off a weekend visit at Notre Dame but does have upcoming visits planned for Ohio State and Stanford.

OT is one of the biggest priority positions for Ohio State in this recruiting class. The Buckeyes are off to a great start, securing commitments from four-stars Ryan Jacoby and Doug Nester but the coaching staff wants to add at least one more. Currently, Ohio State is the favorite to land Miller, holding 71-percent of the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions.

Just one day following Miller’s commitment to the UA All-American game, fellow Ohio State target Jaden Davis (Fort Lauderdale, FL / St. Thomas Aquinas) committed to the game.

Proud to announce I have COMMITTED to the UA All-American Game✔️ #IWILL

— IV (@Jayd4_) March 5, 2018

The four-star prospect is ranked as the No. 19 CB in the country and is the the No. 204 overall talent in the 2019 recruiting class. Davis is also the No. 30 talent in Florida and starts for one of the premier high school football programs in the nation and one that Ohio State has had much success with in recent recruiting classes.

Davis recently included Ohio State in his top ten schools and the Buckeyes are competing with some of the top programs in the country to earn his services. Alongside Ohio State, Davis included Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Texas, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Penn State and Oklahoma in his list.

Davis has been impressing recruiters in recent months, which has led him to receive plenty of attention from some of the best college football programs in the country. After securing an invite to play in the UA All-American Game, he was named DB MVP in The Opening Miami regional camp last month.

DB MVP @TheOpening today was a great day

— IV (@Jayd4_) February 18, 2018

Davis is currently favored to commit to Florida but he is planning on taking advantage of the new rule allowing high school juniors to take official visits to programs in the spring. He is currently scheduled to officially visit Ohio State April 6 which will give the Florida native a chance to see what the school has to offer both on and off the field.

Known for his energy on the sidelines, the former Ohio State coach is ready to bring that passion to the Titans.

“Every day you might think it is off coffee, but it is just natural juice.”

-Ohio State linebacker Jerome Baker, via Jim Wyatt, TitansOnline.com

With so many former Ohio State players working out at the NFL Combine last week, there was plenty of love to go around for former assistant defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs, who moved to join Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans this offseason.

Vrabel has acknowledged Coombs’ energy and passion for the game, but former Ohio State linebacker Jerome Baker took it a step further: “It really is unmatched. Every day he just brings it. You see a guy with so much juice, you can’t help but feed off of it.” Defensive end Sam Hubbard commented on Coombs’ role in recruiting and the love for the game that he brought to his players--something Hubbard says will surely translate to the next level.

Coombs has made a name for himself on the Ohio State coaching staff as a bit of a fireball at practice, sprinting on the practice field with players and going red in the face from yelling during games. After spending 24 years as a high school coach, Coombs spent several seasons with Cincinnati before joining Urban Meyer’s squad in 2012. Now, having made the jump to the NFL, Coombs will be managing the Titans’ secondary under Vrabel.

The current starters in the secondary include cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who was taken with the 18th overall pick last season, and second-year safety Kevin Byard. Coombs is familiar with the young NFL talent in the secondary, having coached several first-round picks himself over the last few years, including Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley, Eli Apple and Bradley Roby at cornerback alone.

Coombs said that he will not adjust his energetic coaching style, which has worked for his players at both the high school and college levels: “I love what I do, and I am passionate about it. I enjoy every minute of every day, and I don’t expect that to change.”

— Ohio State Wrestling (@wrestlingbucks) March 4, 2018

The second-ranked Ohio State men’s wrestling team took home its second-straight Big Ten Championship Sunday at the conference championships in East Lansing. Despite having no national top-seeds in any weight class, the Buckeyes rolled to 164.5 total points--the most of any team in the Big Ten Championship in 16 years. Penn State, who narrowly defeated Ohio State last month, came in second with 148 points. Michigan, Iowa and Nebraska rounded out the top-five. This win is the Buckeyes’ third championship in four years, and their fifth in school history.

Four Ohio State wrestlers also won individual titles this weekend. Senior Nathan Tomasello won his fourth conference title at 125-pounds. With the win, he became one of just 16 wrestlers in conference history to win four individual championships. Junior Joey McKenna, a transfer from Stanford, earned his third-straight individual title at 141-pounds without giving up a single point for the duration of the tournament. Sophomore Kollin Moore won his second-straight championship at 197-pounds. Senior Kyle Snyder, already one of the most decorated wrestlers in program history, rounded out the group with the heavyweight title, overcoming his only loss of the season by defeating Michigan’s Adam Coon in the finals. All four individual champions earned a spot on the 2018 all-Big Ten team. Three Buckeyes, Luke Pletcher (133-pounds), Micah Jordan (157-pounds) and Myles Martin (184-pounds), earned runner-up finishes on the weekend.

Head coach Tom Ryan took home Big Ten Coach of the Year honors. It is the third time that Ryan has won coach of the year, and the second-straight season that he has been recognized.

Next up, the Buckeyes head to the NCAA Championships at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The tournament is scheduled to start March 15. All 10 Buckeyes in the starting lineup earned individuals bids to the championships.

“Based on the way the defense took off with Borland in that spot, don’t expect it to be an issue again.”

-Austin Ward, Land of 10

After a strong redshirt freshman season, linebacker Tuf Borland could prove to be the anchor in a linebacking corps that is losing both of its outside linebackers to the NFL Draft this spring. Despite a limited start to last season, Borland eventually found his role at middle linebacker between the veterans Jerome Baker and Chris Worley. Now, it will be up to Borland to be the linchpin of the defense starting in spring practice this year.

Borland, a four-star prospect coming out of high school, spent last season as a redshirt, and sat out the first two games of the 2017 season against Indiana and Oklahoma. When he finally came into play against Army in Week 3, Borland recorded a dozen tackles on the day. He had limited playing time over the next four games, accruing 12 more tackles before sitting out again in the Buckeyes’ nailbiter against Penn State.

Despite his limited use early in the season, Borland showcased his strengths at Ohio State’s matchup against Michigan State, recording eight solo tackles and his first career sack. He continued to be used down the stretch in Ohio State’s wins over Michigan, Wisconsin and, ultimately, in the Cotton Bowl against USC. These wins show what Borland is capable of against tough competition down the stretch. He was a reliable tackler and held the middle of the field down well alongside Worley and Baker, and finished the season with 58 tackles--good for fifth on the team.

Heading into next season, Borland will be the likely starter at middle linebacker, having benefited from a year in a backup role. Baron Browning, who is entering his sophomore season, would be Borland’s toughest competition. Browning came to Ohio State as a five-star prospect and one of the best outside linebacker prospects in the country, but the job will be Borland’s to lose.

These Buckeye legends will be back in The ‘Shoe on April 14.

As spring practice is about to get underway, Ohio State has announced that the honorary captains for this year’s Spring Game will be two big-time Buckeye legends. Leading the Scarlet and Gray squads will be linebacker Ryan Shazier and safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Both players should draw a big crowd for the annual scrimmage, with Shazier’s entire football career changing this past season due to a back injury, and Jenkins’ last 12 months as a criminal reform advocate and Super Bowl LI winner.

At Ohio State, Shazier recorded 306 total tackles in three seasons. In his junior (and final) year at OSU in 2013, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native made the Associated Press All-American First Team, and picked up three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Jenkins spent four years in Columbus from 2005-08. He ended his OSU career with 196 tackles and 11 interceptions. In 2006-07, he was the Big Ten’s leader in interception yardage. On top of the stats, he earned a Consensus All-American honor and was part of a Buckeye defense that made it to two BCS National Championship Games.

This year’s Spring Game will take place on April 14.

The former four-star recruit has dealt with knee injuries throughout his career.

It looks like Ohio State will be without one more linebacker when they get started this spring, as Nick Conner has been medically disqualified, according to Bill Landis of Cleveland.com.

The Ohio native joined the Buckeye roster in 2015, but has suffered three knee injuries in the four years that he’s been on campus. Conner was forced to take a medical red-shirt his freshman year, and then subsequently sat out again in 2016 and 2017 thanks to additional knee injuries.

Conner did see playing time in one game in 2016, the season-opener against Bowling Green, in which he recorded three tackles before being pulled out of the game. He then suffered his third knee injury during spring practice in 2017, which would ultimately end the linebackers’ Ohio State career.

The Buckeyes already lost Jerome Baker and Chris Worley to the NFL Draft following the 2017 season, and now Conner will be another linebacker off the roster.

We wish Nick the best in his post-playing career.

The Buckeyes were No. 13 in last week’s edition of the poll. Now, they are the 4th lowest ranked team in the Big Ten.

Losses in March aren’t really good. A loss in the first conference tournament game you play is even worse—especially if your AP Poll ranking is important.

After losing to the Penn State Nittany Lions in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, the Ohio State Buckeyes fell to No. 17 in the latest release of the AP Poll. With this new edition of the poll, the Scarlet and Gray are the lowest of the Big Ten teams that hold a ranking. Prior to the last-second loss on Friday night, OSU was No. 13 in the country.

At the top, once again, are the Virginia Cavaliers; however, in the No. 2 spot, there is a new occupant: Villanova. Last week, Michigan State held onto the No. 2 ranking, but after losing in the semifinals of the conference tournament to Michigan, the Spartans took a small drop to No. 4.

Michigan, who ended up winning the the conference title, was the biggest mover in the new release of the poll. The Wolverines jumped to No. 7, after being No. 15 last week. For the second-straight year, John Beilein’s program won four games in four days to be kings of the Big Ten Tournament. This time around, UM scored wins over Iowa, Nebraska, MSU and Purdue to cap off their weekend in New York City.

Purdue, the runner-up in the conference tournament, is the third Big Ten team in the top-10 of the rankings, coming in at No. 10.

Below are the full rankings:

Just got him again. Where we're these refs last night? Pisses me off that they play the game of their lives all 3 times against us. Back down to earth so far today. I hope our coaching staffs in all sports recognize that we are definitely their rival. It's the same in football and wrestling. We're always worried about Michigan. Better start worrying about Penn State. It seems the games mean more to them than they do to us. Just my observation.
