SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Maryland won its fourth NCAA men’s soccer national championship with a 1-0 victory over Akron in the College Cup final Sunday night in Harder Stadium.

A second-half penalty kick for a 1-0 lead and a defense that did not allow a goal in five NCAA Tournament games proved too much for unseeded Akron (15-7-2), which crisscrossed the country with a string up upsets and looked unstoppable after a 5-1 semifinal win against Michigan State in Friday’s semifinal.

“We knew that they would be aggressive, try to press us and disrupt our rhythm,” Akron coach Jared Embick said. “We never really got in a comfort zone and I credit Maryland’s work rate and pressure.”

Maryland allowed just one goal when it won its last title in 2008.

"2008 was the gold standard. We gave up one goal that year. So we have to maybe call this the platinum standard of defending,'' Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski told ESPN.

Terrapins goalie Dayne St. Clair needed to make just two saves.

“We’re brothers,” St. Clair said. “We’re so close. The relationship this team has is sensational, and I think that’s why we’re sitting here today.”

Akron was attempting to win its second national championship (2010).

Buck33Eye11's last stand 2

(fwiw my stance is staunchly in favor of letting pro athletes take w/e the hell they want under medical supervision)

I STRONGLY disagree with this statement. Not for the health of that one player. but because if you allow it, then it becomes almost required. In a field that competitive if you allow something even remotely unsafe to give someone an advantage you force the hand of hundreds of borderline players to also take it or lose their jobs.

Las Vegas

Woohooo Going to Vegas in Jan for four days of holdem poker tournament (hopefully) and other gambling stuff and shows and gambling and slots and gambling. I hear there's even some woman on Fremont st that wears fishnets and tape over her boobs that a picture with costs $5. I'll be all over that! I mean what's left for a 76 yr old pervert?
Did I mention the gambling?

High School Cincinnati Colerain Cardinals

Why? Massive step backwards, correct?

the district office is a mess. teacher morale is at an all time low.
West offers him an administrative role. no teaching. a fat pay raise and arguably more talent than he had at Colerain.
Tom is a friend, classmate and teammate. I am absolutley crushed to see him go. but I totally understand why.
as for Colerain...we will do what we do. continue to outwork the competition. there are three sophomores that started on defense that will be 4 star recruits and I do believe the younger Pace (DB) will be a 5 star.

Urban Meyer Retired...the rules to the recruiting forum have not changed

MD Buckeye posted this in the recruiting forum rules sticky at the top of the page, but I feel like posters are not actually reading the existing thread based on the comments I keep reading in the individual recruiting threads. I hope this post maybe makes it clear and we can just merge it in or delete it after the fact, but felt it warranted its own thread for now.

We have a strict policy in the recruiting against bashing recruits, which will not just be ignored because Urban Meyer retired and some of you feel like recruits should have blind faith to our school regardless of that news. I am as bummed about the retirement as any other fan is, but it doesn't change how we have handled things here. To be clear, bashing does not just mean an outright insult or negative comment against a recruit, but also posts that state a recruit is wrong for not committing to Ohio State or because of backing off because of the news UFM has retired. They are young adults making the hardest decisions of their lives, and everything is not as simple to a 16-18 year old kid deciding how the rest of their life might end up as an OSU fan on the internet.

Whether you all agree with it or not, Urban Meyer retiring is going to make some recruits reassess the biggest decision of their young adult lives. We all hope that the best recruits will ultimately decide that OSU is still the right choice and they believe in Ryan Day as the future. We should all root for that to happen and the program is going to be just fine no matter what. But the mocking and second guessing of some recruits in the last 48 hours is not acceptable at BP, and will not be tolerated in the recruiting forum.

Please clean it up. Thank you.

Arrggghh! Dental Insurance? Other Dental Discount Programs?

It's been my experience that the dentists I've paid out of pocket for (and there have been several) always seem to want to do x-rays more than once a year, and refuse to schedule cleanings unless I'm willing to pony up for the dose of radiation, too. It's been incredibly frustrating.

Refuse to schedule cleanings if you don't agree to an x-ray? Wow. I've never encountered that, and if I did my response would probably be considered rude by some.

I turn down x-rays at my dental office every year - they don't tell me to go away.

BTN Ohio State’s return to Rose Bowl highlights nine Big Ten bowl games

Ohio State’s return to Rose Bowl highlights nine Big Ten bowl games

Big Ten champ Ohio State didn't make the College Football Playoff, but the Buckeyes got a pretty nice consolation prize in the 2019 Rose Bowl Game. The Buckeyes, who finished No. 6 in the final CFP rankings and face Pac-12 champ Washington in their first trip to Pasadena since the 2009 season, pace nine Big Ten bowl teams.

2018 Out-of-State Players to Watch

GREAT BLOODLINES

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford has made Tennessee his home recently, offering scholarships to four prospects from the Volunteer State in the last two weeks. Another one who's hoping to land an offer from the Buckeyes is Memphis Lausanne Collegiate School four-star running back Eric Gray.

"I grew up watching Ohio State, and my uncle, Maurice Hall, played running back for them,” Gray told Eleven Warriors.
.
.
.
If you're wondering what Hall is up to these days, he started acting after a brief stint with the San Diego Chargers. He's been in television shows such as Grey's Anatomy, NCIS and Criminal Minds.

Committed to scUM, and has made no visits. Crazy that an average SEC team is about to flip a team that was very close to winning their conference and almost had a spot in the CFP. Guess Gray wasn't feeling that innovative offense that Hairball was runnning

Gray, the No. 2 overall recruit out of Tennessee in the 247Sports rankings, is a soft verbal to Michigan but actions may speak louder than words. Three visits to Tennessee, one to Ole Miss and zero to Ann Arbor during the season make it one off the more interesting stories of the first signing period.

“He made it pretty clear that, right now, he has no plans to make it back to Michigan and it might be only a matter of time before he officially de-commits from Michigan or flips to another school, whatever the case may be,” said GoVols247 recruiting editor Ryan Callahan on the 247Sports Recruiting Podcast. “It’s definitely something that Michigan has had a tough time because they haven’t been able to get him back on campus to build that relationship.”

2018 Week 12 CFB Open Thread

Still trying to tackle Tommy Frazier, I see.

Nope. Ain't gonna happen. But that was positive in a way. A new DC was hired after that fiasco, and a pretty good year the next year was had (with the help of some guy named Germaine throwing a five yard TD with 19 seconds left), which led to an - ummm -interesting and happy Sugar Bowl for me.
