Jim Boeheim (HC Syracuse Orange)

The 2-3 zone was designed to make you rely on the outside shot. But as teams moved toward building their offenses around the 3 point shot, this once well-designed defense became a liability. Boeheim's apparent refusal to evolve gradually led Syracuse to mediocrity.

That's not to discredit his entire career, but the game passed him by. He's not the first and won't be the last, but it seems apparent that his "retirement" wasn't really his decision. More of a concession to a coach who gave a lot to the university, but whose time had passed.
100% this. Syracuse games turned into teams shooting 80% from 3 against them. The zone quite literally won them a title in 03......but soon after that it was the reason why games were lost. The likelihood of the replacement just being Boeheim lite is depressing. The zone will stay, and the mediocrity will continue.

SF Justin Ahrens (transfer to Loyola Marymount)

Justin Ahrens three point shooting percentages:

18-19 - 38.8%
19-20 - 40.4%
20-21 - 42.5% (dude was deadly)
21-22 - 35.4%
transfers to Loyola Marymount
22-23 - 32.2%

His greatest strength turned into a weakness. Go figure. LMU went out of the WCC tournament tonight and he barely played at all.

Hope he gets his Master's and enjoys LA. There are worse things than that.

College Football Risk

Bumping this because we’re in the homestretch of another season of this silly game and lagging way behind scUM in player count. They have 1,117 players, we only have 625 with about a week left. If you have a Reddit account and a minute each night to spare to hit a button, come help us make sure scUM doesn’t win! Despite the player disparity, tOSU is in 2nd place, but we definitely need more help since the scUM team uses MGo, and that’s a massive user base for them to pull from.

If you want to “play” and help the good guys win back to back championships (we won season 2, this is 3), simply visit the below link, login via Reddit, and then click on any blue territory that also borders a gray territory (ours) to attack scUM. If you want to get orders and play after tonight, our Reddit orders bots will automatically send you a territory to attack/defend via Reddit messages each afternoon. There’s a roll tonight at 10:30pm eastern, and then Sunday is an off day, returning to action on Monday.

Ohio State vs Michigan State, 4 Mar 23, Noon EST, ESPN

The place I would fault coach is not amping up his energy and getting in their asses for playing dogshit Defense. He's just too nice most of the time. Be nice when you are trying to get their Offensive confidence but be a sonofabitch when you need them to play defense like their lives depend on it. They lost that game in the first 15 minutes. I dont give a shit if you can't hit the broad side of a barn you can still play defense if you have two arms and two legs.

Unfortunately it's why I watch basically no basketball at all anymore other than Buckeye and Cavalier games because it's all a look at me Offensive game now and I hate it.

Now that I got that out of my system, was great to see Gene getting some boards and scoring. He needs to be the lockdown guy on D but turning that into Offense is where he can really make an impact. The team kept battling but they hurt themselves too much early on. Let's get a few wins in the tournament and see what this team might be next year.

Black History Month: Football player had higher calling than just ‘phys ed’

FEBRUARY 27, 2013
William Bell
William Bell

William “Big Bill” Bell was a standout tackle for the OSU football team, but his academic career off the field far outshone his performance on it.

Bell played for the Buckeyes from 1929 through 1931, and earned All Big Ten and Honorable Mention All-American honors his final season. But football wasn’t his only activity: He was a member, and Sergeant of Arms, for the African-American social fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, and he was a member of Varsity “O,” the Collegiate Council, and the Interracial Council.

His senior year, the Upper Class Cabinet of the OSU chapter of the YMCA tapped Bell to lead a new committee on interracial relations. In doing so, the Cabinet’s president, Wallace Hall, revived a then-dormant policy of allowing African-American members to become a member. In a Lantern article about Bell’s appointment, Hall said “Bell is a good worker, and I see no reason he should not be a member of the cabinet.”

Bell was named Interracial Chairman of the Upper Class Cabinet, 1931 Makio

After graduating in June 1932, Bell began a long career coaching football at historically African-American colleges, including Claflin College in South Carolina, Florida A&M University, Howard University and finally North Carolina A&T State University. Bell worked more than 20 years at North Carolina A&T in a number of capacities, including athletic director and professor of physical education. (Along the way, Bell received his master’s degree in physical education and his PhD in physical education from Ohio State, in 1937 and 1960, respectively.)

After organizing physical education departments at several universities, Bell ended his career as athletic director of Fayetteville (Alabama) State University where he assisted in the development of Fayetteville’s National Youth Sports Program, a summer organization for disadvantaged youths.

He died at the age of 81 in 1981 in Fayetteville. In Bell’s obituary, a former student of Bell’s at North Carolina said Bell “never said ’phys. ed.’ He always said ‘health and physical education.’ He wanted it to be a profession.”

Your Spotify Playlists

Post your favorite Spotify (or other streaming service) playlists here, whether you or someone else made them.

Here's one that I made called "Hardcore Garage". As I said in the description, it is "•Garage•Punk•Trash• •Fuzz•Psyche•Noise• Hi-energy, lo-fidelity, authentic Rock'N'Roll". Bascially, it is the "rock" end of the "punk" spectrum (Stooges, Saints, Dead Boys, Joneses, Crime), the "punk" end of the "garage" spectrum (Caesars, Cynics, Stems, Baby Woodrose), with lots of glorious "noise" tossed into the mix (Schizophonics and a bunch of band you've never heard of) . Plus quite a few post-grunge punk-garage-blues-altrock things. At least 22 countries represented, with several Ohio bands (Dead Boys, Gaunt, Electric Eels, Pagans, Mirrors, Human Switchboard, to name a few). Take a listen, give a "like" and a "follow" and I'll do the same for any playlist that you post here....

Hardcore Garage

Here's a pared down version of Hardcore Garage, with a few more "trad" rock songs added....

QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I was shocked to realize that was that early in the game. It felt like it was late in the 4th.

Same here, could have sworn it was in the 4th. But then again, I have purposefully avoided watching that play again since that game...that play stung about more than any I can remember or is right up there.
