The Buckeyes head to Chicago this weekend to play their last road game of the season at historic Wrigley Field.

When Ohio State visits the Windy City to play Northwestern this weekend, the Buckeyes will not be making their customary pilgrimage to Ryan Field. Nor will they be checking out Northwestern’s temporary stadium along Lake Michigan because, well.... I’m not real sure.

Frankly, I don’t understand spending nearly a billion dollars to renovate Ryan Field, creating a unique gameday experience on the water (!), and then hosting OSU at a baseball stadium. But who am I to argue with decision makers at the “Harvard of the Midwest”?

If nothing else, the move to Wrigley allows more than 12,000 fans (Martin Stadium capacity) to attend this game featuring one of the biggest brands/names/teams in college football.

Photo by Ben Hsu/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Of course, the Wildcats will be there, too. David Braun’s team is a bit lower (than the Buckeyes) on the CFB food chain, although you wouldn’t know it or believe it when listening to the 2023 Big Ten Coach of the Year. He exudes the confidence and leadership one typically desires in a head coach. And despite being thrust into the position unexpectedly, under bizarre circumstances, Braun and Northwestern have far exceeded expectations since the former took over in January of last year.

That being said, many would be surprised if the Wildcats gave the Buckeyes a game on Saturday. Northwestern is just 4-5 on the season, with their best win coming against... Maryland? I guess? The Cats’ offense has struggled immensely all season, and though some of the defensive metrics are good (21.9 PPG allowed), Braun’s squad allowed 40+ to both Indiana and Iowa.

There’s always the possibility that Northwestern devised a solid, game-shortening gameplan during the team’s bye week, however, I fully expect Ohio State to “go yard” and round the proverbial bases at Wrigley.

Here are a few more things you should know about the Northwestern Wildcats:

Northwestern University is one of the most prestigious universities in the country, if not the world. You probably know this (already) because, among other things, Northwestern produces copious amounts of journalists and media personalities. And those individuals love to remind, tell, and/or educate others about it.

Photo by Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty Images

Northwestern has also produced several Nobel Prize laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, National Medal of Science Winners, and titans of government and/or industry, among the university’s many (many, many) accomplished and esteemed alums. So yeah, Northwestern pumps out some important folks.

But the school also educated/gave us Meghan Markle and Ross from Friends, so...

Willie the Wildcat is Northwestern’s mascot... And he’s not alone. Because Kansas State’s mascot is also Willie the Wildcat, although sometimes “the” is omitted when referring to the latter.

Both mascots also have or dress in similar colors. So the question now becomes, has anyone ever seen Willie and Willie in the same place, at the same time? Or did the brilliant minds at “Nerdwestern” devise a plan to pull one over on us simpletons?

The Wildcats’ football program somewhat surprisingly boasts (at least a share of) eight Big Ten titles. Northwestern enjoyed a hell of a run during the mid-to-late 90’s, winning at least a share of the conference title in ’95, ’96, and 2000. Their other five titles were claimed decades earlier.

One of the best and most successful head coaches in Northwestern(s) history gave us Rudy! Ara Parseghian coached the Wildcats from 1956-1963, winning just over half of his games. He then moved on to Notre Dame, where he won two national titles and gave Rudy Ruettiger a spot on the Irish’s scout team in 1974.

Current head coach David Braun was “only” supposed to be Northwestern’s defensive coordinator. Braun was hired by Pat Fitzgerald in January of 2023, after a successful run as North Dakota State’s DC. When Fitzgerald was fired months later, Braun was (somewhat?) surprisingly named the Wildcats’ interim head coach.

Braun then became the first HC in program history to lead the Wildcats to a bowl game in his opening season, which they won. Northwestern had already removed the interim tag by then, tabbing Braun as their guy after just 10 games.

This Wildcats defense is a handsy bunch. Northwestern’s D has been credited with 39 (!) passes defended this season, well above the national average. And given Will Howard’s tendency to throw at least one puzzling pass per game, that could spell trouble inconvenience for the Buckeyes.

But their offense is one of lowest scoring units in FBS. The Wildcats rank 121st out of 134 FBS teams in points scored per game.

Northwestern has given Ohio State fits recently. OSU won the last two matchups between these teams – in 2020 and 2022 – but only by an average of 13 points. Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud were completely stifled by NU’s defense and/or the weather in both of those games, ultimately forcing them to hand the car keys to Trey Sermon and Miyan Williams, respectively.

But alas...

The Wildcats have not defeated the Buckeyes on the gridiron in 20 years. Northwestern did emerge victorious from the teams’ 2004 battle, defeating the Buckeyes for the first and only time.

The Buckeyes may have the inside track to land a 2026 tight end out of Florida.

The 2026 recruiting class has been a topic of discussion at times due to the slower start the Buckeyes have had landing commitments for the upcoming cycle. Just one player locked in so far thanks to Chris Henry Jr., Ohio State is hoping they’ll see some action in the class sooner rather than later, and this past weekend may have helped that cause as one visitor left very impressed with all that the program has to offer.

Making a trip for the Purdue game, Florida native tight end Corbyn Fordham came to see the Buckeyes for an unofficial visit. The No. 323 player nationally and 15th best at his position per the 247Sports Composite, the visit for Fordham may have just confirmed all of his positive thoughts that he had regarding Ohio State, considering the news that has come since he left and headed back home.

Corbyn has now been pegged to Ohio State multiple times from some of top analysts the recruiting world has to offer, such as Steve WIiltfong. Logging crystal ball predictions in favor of the Buckeyes landing the 6-foot-4, 215 pound athlete, this would be a big time get for position coach Keenan Bailey, and his efforts seem to be one of the leading reasons as to why Fordham is so high on the Buckeyes.

Holding offers from nearly 30 schools, some of the top programs in the mix include Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and several more. However, right now Ohio State looks to be the one in control of the momentum and that ‘s all you can ask for as this staff looks to not only land their next 2026 commit, but also take care of position needs with top players at their spots. There’s still plenty of time before a final decision needs to be made of course, but the latest rumblings have the Buckeyes on the right path towards landing their next commit in upcoming class.

Visit date to Ohio State locked in for 2026 athlete

Keeping with the trend of the 2026 recruiting class, Ohio State only has one more regular season road game before two major recruiting opportunities in terms of being able to host top targets from all over the country. With Indiana and Michigan on the agenda to close out the regular season, these two games are sure to bring in some elite talent as the Buckeyes look to not only get to the Big Ten title game, but also make lasting impressions on the players they’re looking to add to their various recruiting classes across multiple years.

New names sure to be added to the upcoming guest lists until these games finally get here, the coaches are going to be putting in the work to make these visits worthwhile for these top-caliber players. Certainly not the last name to be added to the lists, Louisiana native Blaine Bradford is one of the latest to arrange plans to visit Ohio State in the coming weeks.

Set to be on campus on Nov. 23 for the Indiana game, Bradford’s visit to Columbus is a big one for the staff. The No. 16 player nationally and top safety per the 247Sports Composite, Bradford holds just under 30 offers and from many of the country’s best schools including Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, and plenty more.

Right away, seeing his Louisiana roots may be a cause for concern considering the Buckeyes have never really recruited that state super well. That being said, Ohio State’s safety recruiting has been successful as of late, and certainly has the benefit of having Caleb Downs on their roster as the prime example of the Buckeyes being able to house the best player at the position in college football. Either way, getting Bradford on campus is a win for this staff and one visit they’ll go out of their way to make sure goes well.

  • One of the more prestigious accolades a high school athlete can earn, on Wednesday current Ohio State commit Tarvos Alford was awarded his All-American Bowl jersey and took time to share what it means to him.

The No. 103 player nationally and ninth best linebacker in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite, Alford like many Buckeyes before him is one of the latest future Ohio State players to play his last prep contest in this game that has seen incredible talent over the years.

The second edition of the College Football Playoff Rankings dropped, and the Big Ten holds four of the top five spots.

Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football.

After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week.

My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.

Once again there is little news in the Big Ten, as there aren’t many coaches who are on the chopping block and the coordinator firings will largely wait until the season ends.

There is news at USC, as Lincoln Riley benched Miller Moss after a streak of bad games, and the Trojans are on flip watch as their 2025 quarterback commit may have eyes for Colorado. In other news, Nebraska’s head coach demoted his offensive coordinator and promoted Dana Holgerson, an analyst who has been with the program for a little over a week.

Week 11 started with a bang as UCLA won its third straight game, upsetting Iowa on Friday night. After starting 1-5, UCLA is on a three-game winning streak. With Washington, USC and Fresno State on the schedule, the Bruins could find their way to bowl eligibility.

Ohio State rounds into form as it prepares for a top-five showdown against Indiana in two weeks. Indiana just played Michigan and had its worst game of the season, getting dominated in the trenches. Jordan and Dante break down the game to determine if this was just a bad game, which every contender has had this season, or if there are real concerns to take away from this game.

On Tuesday the College Football Playoff committee dropped their newest top 25 ranking, and the Big Ten was well represented with four teams in the top five. Oregon and Ohio State came in at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, while Penn State was ranked No. 4 and Indiana No. 5. This means the Big Ten will have at least two more top-five showdowns barring an upset.

Ohio State and Indiana will be a top-five matchup, and the winner will most likely play Oregon in another top-five matchup in the Big Ten championship game. With four teams in the top five, it’s all but guaranteed that all five teams will make the 12-team playoffs, and Jordan thinks the Big Ten is in a good position to win a national championship.

In their weekly MapQuest segment, the guys are surprised by the lack of depth of games as there are no two important games that start at the same time. If you have nothing else to watch, you can check out Ohio State-Northwestern at noon. Midday the guys recommended USC-Nebraska, with Oregon-Wisconsin in prime time. The best game of the weekend may be on Friday, with UCLA and Washington fighting for bowl eligibility.

In their weekly pitstops, the guys discuss Ohio State fans being upset about Big Noon Kickoff, and why hospitals should be able to veto parents when they give their kids bad names.

If you like the show, please share it with friends and family and leave a five-star review. If you want to keep up with the show you can subscribe to the Land-Grant Podcast Network Feed where new episodes drop every Thursday.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NOV 12 Women’s - Charlotte at Ohio State

Photo by Jason Mowry/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Jaloni Cambridge takes a knock and sits the second half in the Buckeyes’ second win of the season.

Ohio State women’s basketball announced the addition of program legends Katie Smith and Jacy Sheldon to the coaching staff on Monday. On Tuesday, it was guard Chance Gray taking the spotlight, leading the No. 12 Buckeyes with 31 points, and a program record-tying nine three-pointers, in a 94-53 win over the UNC Charlotte 49ers.

After a slow start in her debut, junior shooting guard Chance Gray established herself early. Ohio State struggled to find shots from the jump, but Gray was effective from deep, hitting three shots from beyond the arc, already eclipsing her eight points last week against Cleveland State.

It seemed to calm Gray’s Buckeye teammates, who ended the quarter on a 14-0 run to go ahead 25-6 after 10 minutes. During that stretch, the 49ers missed nine shots, and wouldn’t score again from the field until the 7:27 mark of the second quarter, over 10 game minutes between run of play baskets.

Charlotte looked like a mid-major team adjusting to a new coach and system. That, and the Buckeyes’ defense held the 49ers to 17 first half points, with six coming from the free throw line.

Freshman point guard Jaloni Cambridge, who started her NCAA career with a 31-point game against the CSU Vikings, had eight points at the end of the first half. Gray led all scorers with 11 points.

On the first offensive drive in the second half, the Buckeyes had a scare when Cambridge went up for a layup. On a fast break off a Charlotte turnover, the freshman went to the basket and was met by Keanna Rembert, who jumped to stop the guard. Cambridge collided with the 6-foot-2 forward, sending the 5-foot-7 Cambridge to the court hard.

Cambridge walked off the court on her own, but bent over and holding around her lower back. The freshman returned to the game before the end of the third quarter.

Charlotte continued being the aggressors, this time offensively. The 49ers went on a 12-2 run before a pair of turnovers slowed down the visitors. On the first, McMahon sent a no-look behind the back pass to Taylor Thierry, raising the volume on what became a somber crowd following the injury.

Gray picked up the scoring slack again, scoring 14 of Ohio State’s 26 points in the third quarter, hitting four from beyond the arc. Gray had a new career single-game scoring high with 31 points, eclipsing her previous record of 22 points as an Oregon Duck.

Cambridge never returned to the game, but the Buckeyes’ defense did. Despite allowing 26 points to Charlotte in the third quarter, Ohio State held Charlotte to 35.2% shooting from the floor overall.

What’s Next

The Buckeyes continue their run of non-Power Five schools when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee to face the Belmont Bruins. Even though Kilyn McGuff transferred to Butler, there’s still a family element to the Sunday 3:00 p.m. ET matchup, with the Cambridge sisters playing in front of their home crowd.

Last season, Ohio State welcomed the Bruins to Columbus , coming away with a 84-55 victory.
