Multiple recruiting analysts are predicting that California’s Epi Sitnilei will flip from UCLA to OSU on signing day.
In recent weeks,
Ohio State has seen more prospects leave its 2025 recruiting class than enter it, but today on the first day of the Early Signing Period, there is a lot of smoke that the Buckeyes are on the verge of flipping a four-star player out of the class of a conference foe.
Epi Sitnilei is currently committed to play for the UCLA Bruins. A 6-foot-5, 220-pound edge rusher, he currently sits as the
No. 114 player in 247Sports’ rankings and the No. 10 edge rusher in the class. The composite rankings drop him down fairly significantly to No. 348, but there is a reason that 247 is the most trusted recruiting service in the industry.
Nonetheless, Sitanilei took an unofficial visit to Ohio State in mid-June but committed to UCLA on June 30. A St. John Bosco senior from Bellflower, California, Sitanilei looked secure in his pledge to the hometown team. However, he made his official visit to Columbus this past weekend for the Michigan game, and on Tuesday, a slew of crystal ball predictions from 247Sports analysts came in for him to flip to the Buckeyes.
National recruiting analysts Greg Biggins and Brandon Huffman, along with Mountain region analyst Blair Angulo all put in predictions to land the up-and-coming prospect.
“From talking to a few people close to Sitanilei about Ohio State,”
Biggins said, “word is he loved his visit, the big stage the Buckeyes play on and as always, NIL is a factor”
This past season was the first for Sitanilei as a starter at the always-loaded St. John Bosco, but he apparently played well enough to draw extra attention from the Buckeyes, as well as the USC Trojans. However, Biggins believes that it is down to Epi’s original commitment to UCLA, or the flashier option at Ohio State.
With Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau headed to the NFL after this season, Jim Knowles will be looking to restock that room, and Sitanilei could provide exactly what the defensive coordinator is looking for. While he’s still a bit undersized, Biggins believes he will have no problem putting on the muscle and weight needed.
“He shows some natural pass rush ability with a quick get-off and the ability to win with speed and power,” Biggins said.
If Sitanilei does flip, he would join fellow edge rusher
Zion Grady (No. 71 nationally, No. 5 Edge according to 247’s composite rankings) in Ohio State’s class. Currently, the Buckeyes have the
third-ranked recruiting class, behind only Georgia and Alabama. Where they end up will depend on whether or not there are any flips in or out of the class, and landing Epi Sitanilei would go a long way to helping the bottom line.
Sitanilei will sign his scholarship offer as part of St. John Bosco’s Signing Day event at 11:45 a.m. PT, so 2:45 p.m. ET.
