The Buckeyes continue to offer new players with another six names added to the list on Thursday.

Wednesday was jam-packed with recruiting news, and Thursday was no different as the Ohio State coaching staff continued to dish out new offers to players in attendance for camp. Ahead of a major recruiting weekend that gets started on Friday, it’s another example of zero downtime for this program in the month of June.

Here are some of the latest players on Ohio State’s radar thanks to Thursday’s camp opportunity...

  • Brady Edmunds (Huntington Beach/Huntington Beach, California)

A 2027 quarterback, Edmunds was in attendance to see the Buckeyes, and left as the latest signal caller in the 2027 class to have an Ohio State offer.

Another big-time California product, Edmunds is already an impressive 6-foot-5, 200 pound athlete as just a freshman. Edmunds is not currently ranked on his 247Sports profile, but has offers from 20 schools and from the likes of Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Oregon and now the Buckeyes.

After a great conversation with @ryandaytime I’m grateful to have received an offer from THEE Ohio State University! #GoBucks @OhioStateFB @CoachRLarkin @HBHSFootball @CoachDanny10 @footballandlife @RickHagedorn @GregBiggins @ChadSimmons_ @adamgorney @BrandonHuffman pic.twitter.com/vVsiNz1qlk

  • Lincoln Keyes (Saline/Saline, Michigan)

Another tight end to see Ohio State offer, Keyes made the trek from the state up north and camped with the Buckeyes, turning the heads of the staff — and specifically position coach Keenan Bailey.

A class of 2026 prospect, Keyes adds his Ohio State offer to an already impressive list of over 20 schools, but interestingly enough, Michigan has yet to add their name into the mix, even with him just being down the road from their campus.

Unranked via his 247Sports profile, the 6-foot-6, 220 pound athlete has plenty of time to see his stock continue to rise with another two full years to develop his game.

After a great conversation with @ryandaytime, I am blessed to receive an offer from Ohio State!!! @CoachShort_ @RisingStars6 @SalineFootball pic.twitter.com/OUKhKiLNeD

— Lincoln Keyes (@Linckeyes) June 6, 2024
  • Evan Jacobson (Waukee/Waukee, Iowa)

The second 2026 tight end to leave with an Ohio State offer on Thursday, Jacobson coming from Iowa made his trip well worth his time after speaking with Bailey and earning the good news from the Buckeyes.

The No. 182 player nationally and seventh-best tight end in the class per 247Sports, Jacobson is another prospect with an impressive offer list, as he boasts double-digit schools from the likes of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Texas A&M, and a host of others.

Coming to Ohio State to camp, obviously a goal was to get the Buckeyes interested, and he did just that. As the search for tight ends — and any position for that matter — continues through the rest of camp season, expect to hear more names with Jacobson being one of the latest.

After a great visit and conversation with @CoachKee and @CoachBinckes I am pumped to announce I have received an offer from THE Ohio state University @OhioStateFB @adamgorney @AllenTrieu @CoachBakker @D1Apex pic.twitter.com/bhlckF7glG

  • Darius Gray (St. Christopher’s School/Richmond, Virginia)

One of the higher-ranked players on campus this week, the 2026 offensive line prospect was the next in line to receive the good news from Ohio State.

The No. 56 player nationally and third-best interior lineman in the 2026 cycle per the 247Sports Composite, Gray has over 30 offers and from every major program in the country.

Knowing the importance of prioritizing offensive line recruiting in every class, Justin Frye getting a look at Gray is a benefit. With offer extended now, Ohio State can really start courting him for his services. Getting him on campus is always a major win, but with how highly touted Gray is, certainly he’ll be a name further discussed in the coming months.

Im EXTREMELY BLESSED to have earned an offer from THE Ohio State University!! @CoachJFrye @CoachSollenne @ryandaytime pic.twitter.com/GiT9GFIvnR

— DG (@dariusgrayy_) June 6, 2024
  • Carter Luckie (Norcross/Norcross, Georgia)

Another impressive target to see the Buckeyes on Thursday, Luckie made the trip from the Peach State, and left with his latest offer coming from Ohio State.

A 6-ffot-5, 250 pound defensive lineman, Luckie is currently the No. 224 player nationally and 25th best player at his position per the 247Sports Composite. Pegged early on the Crystal Ball to land at Georgia, Carter does already have double-digit offers to his name, but Ohio State’s is nothing to scoff at.

Larry Johnson is still arguably the best in the country at developing defensive line recruits, and his resume still speaks for itself when it comes to how prospects feel about him. Odds are Ohio State will be one offer he considers for the long haul.

After a great camp, I am Very Blessed to receive an offer from THE Ohio State University!!! @CoachLCTrenches @CoachMoore313 @CoHosch @Slytown83 @Rivals @247Sports pic.twitter.com/dNsf9kJVfL

— Carter Luckie (@carter_luckie) June 6, 2024
  • Jaeden Ricketts (Watkins Memorial/Pataskala, Ohio)

The lone in-state offer yesterday, the Buckeyes offered the 6-foot, 180 pound athlete after his impressive camp performance working out as a receiver.

Easily his biggest offer to date, Ricketts had only heard from the MAC schools thus far. While any offer is one to be proud of, getting Ohio State’s attention — especially at the receiver position — says a lot about where his recruitment could go in the near future with other programs taking notice.

The Buckeyes and their success at the receiver spot is about as solid as one could hope for, so seeing Brian Hartline look in-state and feeling the need to offer says quite a bit. Typically, Ohio natives take these offers seriously, and this would be a shock to see anything different.

After a great camp day I’m blessed to be able to say I have received an offer from THE university of Ohio State!! @brianhartline @ryandaytime @CoachJordan82 @etwill21 @Watkins_FB @TLow14 @AllenTrieu @coachelichter @Bill_Kurelic @Rob_wheels @CJ1two pic.twitter.com/xmuyUWNzCD

Quick Hits

  • As if six new offers wasn’t enough news for one day, Ohio State also made the short list for offensive line target, Jackson Lloyd.

A 6-foot-7, 290 pound tackle, Lloyd is the No. 187 player nationally and the 19th best tackle in the country per the 247Sports Composite in the 2025 class.

Down to just six schools, Ohio State makes the cut joining the likes of Alabama, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee and USC. Another high-profile tackle Frye is after, the Buckeyes are in the mix for a fair share of top prospects. Though the lone commitment of Carter Lowe is a big one, this staff knows they need to continue on until more are locked in.

NEWS Elite 4-star OT Jackson Lloyd is down to Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee and USC, per @Hayesfawcett3‼️

Lloyd ranks No. 29 NATL. (No. 6 OT) in the 2025 On300.

While he has yet to become a dominant player, the 2024 season may define Sawyer’s OSU legacy.

From now until preseason camp starts in August, Land-Grant Holy Land will be writing articles around a different theme every week. This week is all about the Buckeyes we expect to excel this season. You can catch up on all of the Theme Week content here and all our “Players to Watch” articles here.

When I wrote about Jack Sawyer last year in our series on Ohio State players to watch, perhaps I jumped the gun. I believed then that Sawyer was poised to finally transition from a player who occasionally flashed signs of his potential to one who dominated football games.

While that didn’t happen, and might never do so, it’s possible I was just a bit early with the sentiment. Sawyer was better in 2023 than in previous seasons, but it’s fair to say that he wasn’t a dominating player much of the time.

The Pickerington North product managed 7.5 sacks across his first two seasons — 25 total games — at Ohio State. Last year, Sawyer finished the year as the Buckeyes’ leader in sacks with 6.5, nearly doubling his career total in one season. He also finished with the most sack yardage (40) in 2023, just ahead of J.T. Tuimoloau.

While 6.5 sacks isn’t a huge total for a Buckeye defensive end, it was the most since Chase Young’s 16.5 in 2019. Young’s numbers were elite and should in no way reflect upon Sawyer’s career at Ohio State, but I’ll admit that 6.5 sacks is a pedestrian number for a team leader at a program like Ohio State.

So, why do I think this is Sawyer’s year?

It seemed to me that Sawyer flipped a switch late in the season. The 6-foot-5 senior recorded five of his 6.5 sacks in Ohio State’s final three games of 2023. Entering the Minnesota game on Nov. 18, Sawyer was stuck on 1.5 sacks, with both of those coming in the Buckeyes’ 41-7 win at Purdue.

What made that Purdue game special? It was the only game Ohio State played on real grass all season. However, Sawyer showed he could get to the quarterback on field turf over the final three contests of 2023, starting in that 37-3 destruction of Minnesota at Ohio Stadium.

Sawyer recorded one sack each in the win over the Golden Gophers and the loss at Michigan the following week. He then exploded for three sacks in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Dec. 29 against Missouri. While it’s unfortunate that his big game went to waste due to the offense’s struggles that night, we may have finally seen the tipping point for Ohio State’s No. 33.

In total, Sawyer made four solo tackles in the game against the Tigers, with three of those being sacks that covered 20 yards lost for Missouri. The Buckeyes as a team finished with six sacks on the night, but only Sawyer had more than one. He also recorded one of the team’s three quarterback hurries in the game.

While it might be overly optimistic to look at that three-game stretch at the end of the season as a sign that Sawyer may explode in 2024, there’s at least a visible trend. Sawyer not only started to get to the quarterback more often, but his overall numbers improved over that stretch as well.

Sawyer recorded three or more solo tackles in each of the final three games for a total of 10. Prior to the Minnesota game, Sawyer had only three games all season with multiple solo tackles — two against Youngstown State, two against Purdue, and four at Wisconsin. He had 16 total tackles (solo + assists) over the final three games, including six against the Gophers, six more against the Wolverines, and the four in the Cotton Bowl.

Prior to that stretch, Sawyer reached four or more total tackles only three times all year — four each against Rutgers and Indiana and six against Wisconsin. Sawyer also entered that Minnesota game with just 2.5 tackles for loss all season long. Yet he finished with 3.5 against the Gophers, one against Michigan, and three against Missouri, for a total of 10 on the year — 7.5 in the final three-game stretch.

He also had his only three quarterback hurries of 2023 during those games (none the rest of the season) and recorded one of his two forced fumbles on the year during that span (against the Gophers).

In other words, three of his biggest games of the season came at the end of the year in just about every statistical measurement for a defensive end.

While it’s possible that it was an anomaly, I see it more as a positive trend. From the eye test alone, it seemed that the game was slowing down for Sawyer and that he was diagnosing plays more quickly, becoming more disruptive, and even being held more often — uncalled holding infractions are the greatest sign of respect for an OSU defensive end, and were a staple of the careers of Young and the Bosa brothers, among others.

If Sawyer’s development continues, it’s not a big leap from 6.5 sacks to double digits. Amassing 10 or more sacks in a season is the mark of a top-notch player. Sawyer may yet reach the lofty expectations OSU fans had for him when he committed as a five-star recruit, the top overall player in the state of Ohio, the No. 4 player nationally overall, and the country’s No. 3-ranked defensive end.

He also seems ready for his new role as a leader on the Ohio State defense, and eager to leave a strong legacy for future Buckeye defensive ends to follow.
