The Buckeyes see their name still in it for three elite 2025 hoops stars.
It’s here! Today begins the start of Ohio State’s fall camp, and that means football is officially back. An offseason that has been rather uneventful for the Buckeyes, this is a team that is poised to make a run for it all, but that pursuit is now finally underway as Ryan Day and company take the field.
A summer that was focused on recruiting, the current roster is the main priority from now on, even with some work to be done in the 2025 class. Sitting atop of the rankings thanks to a group of 24 commits, there’s not a ton of work to be done to round out this stellar haul of talent. There is arguably the biggest member of the class still out there thanks to David Sanders Jr., but only a few players are still being pursued down the stretch.
The coaching staff has plenty to keep them busy as the first contest of the year quickly approaches, but even with fall camp now here, you can guarantee that Ohio State is putting the effort in on the trail to finish off this 2025 class. Looking to land somewhere between 26-28 commitments when all is said and done, expect the Buckeyes to continue working to keep their class the top-ranked one in college football with these few important names still on the big board.
Football taking majority of the attention with the season basically here, Ohio State men’s basketball’s staff is deserving of some credit too for the work they are also putting in on the recruiting trail. Seen this week with multiple roster additions, Jake Diebler and his crew are proving to be no slouch of their own when it comes to the pursuit of high-profile talent. Wednesday saw that be the case as multiple players kept the Buckeyes in the mix as they narrowed down their options.
Starting with the No. 3 player nationally and top combo guard in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite, Darryn Peterson is now down to just eight schools as he gets closer to a decision.
A 6-foot-5, 195 athlete out of West Virginia, Peterson holds well over 20 offers to his name from some of the top programs in the country. A five-star on every recruiting site out there, Peterson has Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, USC, Washington, and Ohio State still under consideration before he makes a final call to the school of his choice.
What would be a crown jewel type of addition for any school, Ohio State has to like the fact that they are still in the mix this late into the cycle for 2025. Only one commit for the Buckeyes thus far, Diebler is likely to put on the full-court press in these recruitments, and being a school that is pretty close to home for Peterson, expect Ohio State to be right in the thick of it for the long haul. For now, the plan to get him back on campus comes first.
Staying right in the 2025 class, another impressive guard kept the Buckeyes in his top schools list after narrowing it down. Four-star point guard, Jalen Reece is next up on the list and the No. 67 player nationally and 11th best point guard in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite has just seven programs he’s still looking at from here on before making his commitment public.
A Florida native with double-digit offers, cutting his recruitment down to nearly half of the schools that have offered, Reece included Cincinnati, Dayton, LSU, Penn State, Providence, South Florida, and Ohio State as his finalists.
Another player the Buckeyes would love to add to their current 2025 class, the point-guard position is one that is being looked at closely and Reece certainly fits that mold.
Moving right along with one more elite 2025 talent that has the Buckeyes at the forefront of their recruitments, Ohio State was also able to find their name on the list for Caleb Wilson, the No. 4 player nationally and second-best power forward in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite.
A 6-foot-9, 205 pound athlete out of Georgia, Wilson has nearly 30 offers to his name and once again from many of the top programs from around the country, and rightfully so as another five-star talent. Cutting out over half the schools that have offered thus far, Wilson announced a top schools list of just 12 and kept Ohio State in that grouping.
Rounding out the rest of his final schools, Wilson still has Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Central Florida, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, and USC as part of his top 12. Obviously some of the blue-bloods in college basketball listed, this will not be an easy recruitment to land, but Ohio State staying in the mix for these five-star guys is all you can ask for this early on into the staff’s tenure.
