Zwick vs. Smith (official thread)

Ok back to a serious question. Is this something OSU can fix with a more basic and simple max protect set on the Offensive line?? At least until they mature or something changes within the O-line, or is it that we need to make some changes in management ???
I still have so much hope when thinking of Mitchum, Bemoll, Cordle, Boone and a couple others coming in.

I'm with everyone else...which keys go into the 1979 Gremlin don't really matter when you're racing against an Alpha Romeo. This is worse than Vanderbilt's offense in the mid-90's.

hehe I stand corrected. Nicol TD !!! Troy's is showing some poise. Hope thats enough to build on for any of these kids. Tough game.

On a good note, hopefully OSU can do something anything against Indiana,
Penn st., and MSU and build something off of those teams.
i haven't seen the last half of the game (got called in to work) but... im looking right now and it shows we scored with 2:19 left in the 4th and the score at the time was 33-0. call me crazy but that sounds more like a gimme than a legit score. what was he up against? the 3rd string? 33-0.... 2 min left in the game. i find it hard to believe iowa had the first string in there playing something other than prevent. seriously, if you can't pass against prevent.... :sick1:

our entire problem can be summed up in two words, offensive line.
we cant run the ball, so we cant keep the defense honest, so we cant pass the ball, so we cant get first downs, so we have to punt.
and so on.
which keeps on defense constantly on the field, which wears them down, and they look worse than they are.
offensive line.
i truly believe if peterson was coaching the OL and not bollman, we would be undefeated.

I don't mean to be racist, but is Smith the first African-American Buckeye QB?
Way to date yourself as a fan.

and, I'm still a fit 20 year old student who could have earned a walk on spot at PU (on defense, but still ). (5'10" 190) I used to play O-lineman in Pop Warner football... I can pull like a madman! Put me in...

i couldnt see it either....and it was clearly garbage time defense.....but dont take anything away from the TD. they were playing their second string.....so were we.

Second string defense or not, it saved us from an absolutely embarassing shut out! Hell the loss was embarassing in its self but the fact that we could have potentially been shut out by a team that allowed 44 f'ing points to ASU, is unreal.

I think Smith has earned the chance to start next weeks game. Sure he didnt come in and have a great performance but he did do 2 things that Zwick was unable to do. 1) Actually have us score a TD, and 2) didnt have 2 costly turnovers in the game. Smith now deserves a chance to show what he has got, knowing that he is the "man" this week in practice so he can prepare himself for the game, instead of having to throw some quick passes on the sidelines to get himself warmed up after sitting through a half of football. Whats the worst that could happen? Absolutely nothing that already hasnt happened to this team, so if nothing else, he gets in there is completely lost and has absolutely no skill , then the team will at least know that Zwick is the man for the job. But if he goes in and lights it up and is able to move the chains and get some scores then the team knows he is the one who needs to be in there....and if that would happen , maybe Youngstown ST. might need another Zwick.

Zwick vs. Smith

Personally, I think we stick with Smith until he loses the job. There is an obvious difference between the two. Smith wants to win and Zwick doesn't want to lose. You can discern that from their quotes following the game. Smith may be able to bring some leadership, only time will tell.
