And note, this should be a lesson for everyone: if your intentions are to take someone out, don’t go so far as to take everything away from them. Put someone in a position of having nothing left for themselves, and you create a martyr. People who are willing to sacrifice their own life to take yours generally have a high rate of success.

A bigger lesson is to simply stay out of other people's business, especially if you yourself have skeletons in your closet.

That's what worries me. If any of the current or prior coaching staff have cost Herman a recruit in a manner he's not happy about since leaving, I'm concerned about the mud slinging causing collateral damage.

Exactly what I was thinking... and I’m not suggesting that Columbus is a target. But Tom Herman, if he in fact was the one who tipped the reporter who shall not be named, is ‘patient zero’ in this mess. Will be interesting from a network theory perspective.
