"Dawand is probably maxxed out as a prospect. I don't see what coming back does for him"

I consider you a top shelf poster but with all due respect I strongly disagree.

We are talking about a kid who was primarily a basketball player growing up and has been in college 3 years. With significant reps only last year.
I posit another year of reps and dedication in the weight room could unlock a beast.
I see him as a potential first rounder in 23. Potential all-american.
Weren't his PFF grades stellar last year?
And he was still very raw and a tad sloppy in terms of his body.
I think he is the definition of "potential" given his size, relative inexperience, and athleticism.
You may very well be correct, I certainly don't claim to be an expert on these matters. Just, in my mind, I see a kid who came in with a good blend of size and athleticism, but may be at his peak already. A "he is what he is" situation. Stud had his detractors, but he got a lot out of the kids he had here in his 6 years and put several in the pros. My issue with him was the alignments he chose, but that's another conversation. Maybe Frye can unlock something Stud couldn't.

Maybe Frye can help but it's just physics imo. He's an extra large human being.

PFF grades were through the roof in pass protection, I never saw them for his run blocking so I'd be interested to see if the data matches the eye test.

The eye test was that he really struggled to get to the second level or run block anyone who didn't line up right in front of him but again, who knows for sure?

I flat out disagree with this, if we use proper context we all know he is still learning the position as well as we would have a GAPING hole at OT if he did leave. Hopefully Coach Fry uses the common sense approach and makes him play at 335.

Think about it, he played damn well overall at 360 (supposedly), second of all, those complaining about getting to the next level, its all about angles, not speed. There have thousands of guys who've played the game at a high level who aren't half the athlete Jones is, you go to where the opponent will be, not where he is currently

This kid can be every bit as good as Mekhi Becton is for the Jets, he just needs the right guy with his hands on him to cultivate that talent.

Lastly, I think there is some recency bias going on with him because pre-UM people were lauding him and now he is maxed out?

Jones is still a project. He’s been quite impressive at times but the room for continued growth is definitely there. He could leave and be fine. He can get better in the league just as well as he can stay and get better. The only real decision here whether he can get better enough by staying that he could make himself a first round pick.

Harrison is never going to be a pass rusher like the Bosa's or Young. Probably not close. Now I'd love to be proven wrong, but he doesn't have the quick get off at the snap, doesn't get underneath tackles, and takes such a wide loop to get to the QB that he's often almost coming at them from behind. He just hasn't found a way to take the shortest route into the backfield. You could argue lining him out wider might work well so he has a straighter shot, but that would only work on more obvious passing downs.

The thing is, he's not the pass rush specialist. Wasn't this year and won't be next year. When Smith was on, he was the best pass rusher this year, and I think Sawyer will be, by far, the best pass rusher coming into next season. Having Harrison back is huge for run defense, to provide depth, and to absorb a few blockers and set the edge. It's not sexy, and it's frustrating that he's not putting up 10 sacks, but OSU was bound to run out of HoF pass rushers. He'll still play a very important role on the Def and as a leader

ZACH HARRISON
#9 DE
Height: 6'-6"
Weight: 272

I do think a DL "rushmen" package that includes Sawyer, Tuimoloau, and Harrison would be effective in passing situations. At 272 (or more) Harrison could lineup as a DT. They can't double team all three of them.
