I can nail down a solid 4 but that's about it.

1. Requiem for a Dream- Never had a movie come close to having as big of an impact on me as this one did and never will. It's rough around the edges but just an incredible movie. This is the movie that made me fall in love with Jennifer Connelly, oddly enough. Burstyn was fucking robbed and Aronofsky deserved at least a nom, IMO.

2. Shawshank Redemption- Watch it every time it's on tv(usually TNT).

3. The Departed- DiCaprio did an outstanding job and the rest of the cast was great too.

4. Leon: The Professional- Loved Oldman in this. Reno was great too.

After that it's not so clear. These could be arranged in any order for the most part.

Into the Wild- Went into it knowing pretty much nothing about the story it was based on so the ending really surprised me. Touching movie.

Dark City- Cool idea, solid acting, interesting setting, and Jennifer Connelly. :wink:

Minority Report- Saw it twice in theaters and every time it's on tv I sit down and watch the entire thing. Last great Cruise movie, IMO.

Office Space- Simply a classic with tons of great quotes.

40 Year Old Virgin- Didn't bother seeing it in theaters because I thought it would be dumb but I laughed my ass off the entire time I first saw it online. Like Office Space, tons of great quotes.

'O Brother Where Art Thou?- My dad dragged me to the theater to watch it(I was pretty young and had a very short attention span) and I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. It was even better the second and third time I watched it.

City of God- It was on HBO late at night and I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. Very dark but so well done.

Road To Perdition- Tom Hanks' best acting performance to date, IMO. Amazing cast and a good plot. Tyler Hoechlin(the son) and Jude Law were top notch.

Hoop Dreams- By far the best sports movie I've ever seen.

Blood Diamond- This along with The Departed converted me into a DiCaprio fan. Edward Zwick did an excellent directing job. Plus, it had Jennifer Connelly. :biggrin:

That's all I can think of for now. I'll finish up the other 11 eventually.

EDIT- Just remembered Garden State. Very unique and good dramedy.

Millers Crossing is still their best film but The Big Lebowski ain't no slouch (nor are any of their other films for that matter).

I'm not good at making favorites list, and I may not get to 25, but here goes:

1. The Godfather, Part I and II; I consider these as one work. Al Pacino across both movies gives the greatest performance on film. And they are beautifully shot. John Cazale as Fredo is one of my favorite movie characters of all time.

2. American Beauty; Fantastic writing and cast. I always feel uplifted when i watch it.

3. Fargo; I love all the Coen Bros. movies, and I think this was their most perfect effort. Every scene with William H. Macy or Steve Buscemi is gold.

4. Pulp Fiction; A cinematic landmark. I remember seeing it in the theater and knowing that everyone in the audience was completely blown away. I immediately wanted to watch it again.

5. Babel; Inarritu's films are simply beautiful, although amazingly sad. 21 Grams is also excellent, but Babel is slightly better.

6. 12 Angry Men; An all time classic. Loved it since I was a kid. One of the best casts ever assembled. Lee J. Cobb's performance is masterful.

7. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; Gene Wilder at his best. A pure joy to watch. I get a kick from all the things that they would never get away with in kid's movies today (count all the tobacco refrences). Also solid music from Leslie Bricuse/Anthony Newely, especially "Cheer up, Charlie" and "Pure Imagination"

8. Goodfellas; I should have put this higher, but I'm not going to go back. Fucking brilliant. Scorcese is a genius, and this movie just attacks the senses.

9. Unforgiven; Clint Eastwood is one of the greatest directors of our time, and I think this is his crowning achievement. The most realistic western ever made. I'm also a sucker for anything with Morgan Freeman.

10. The Life Aquatic; I love Bill Murray and Wes Anderson. I watched it everyday for about two months straight (the cable was in my roomates name, and he went out of town without paying the bill).

11. Seven; I saw it with a bunch of college friends. None of us knew what it was about. None of us could sleep that night. Pitt, Freeman, and Spacey were excellent.

12. The Fisher King; Terry Gilliam makes great films. Robin Williams is fantastic. Another movie that just makes me feel good.

13. The Big Lebowski; IMO, the funniest movie ever made. Every line is a classic.

14. A Clockwork Orange; Again, should have listed higher. A tour de force performance by Malcolm McDowell. A big reason why I have such a dark side.

15. Boogie Nights; Probably one of the best debuts by a director. Great script and cast. So much deeper than the subject implies. (no pun intended)

16. Star Wars; I should have put this in the top three. One of the first movies I saw in the theater. Still a huge influence on how I view the world.

17. Lost in Translation; My love for this movie has kind of waned since I've come to realize that Scarlett Johansen isn't that great of an actress, but Bill Murray saves the day. Sofia Coppola is a fantastic director. The Virgin Suicides is excellent, also.

18. Trainspotting; kind of in the same vein as Pulp Fiction. Blew me away the first time I saw it. Ewan MacGregor's performance is comparable to McDowell's in Clockwork Orange.

19. Mulholland Drive; I'm not a big David Lynch fan, but Naomi Watts is one of the best actresses around, and hot as fuck. In this movie, she dykes-out with another super hot chick and flicks her bean within 30 minutes. You just can't beat that.

20. Heat; There are a lot of parts in this movie I don't care for (I think it's way too long), but the action sequences kick ass. The shootout after the bank robbery is the best I have ever seen, by far. DeNiro and Pacino are not at their best, but I get a kick out of the scenes where there just hilarious: DeNiro with Amy Brennamen in the diner, and Pacino with Hank Azaria, "She's got a GREAT ASS! And you got your head ALL THE WAY UP IT!". So over the top, yet so good.

21. Blazing Saddles; Probably Mel Brooks best.

22. The Last Waltz; Film of The Band's last concert filmed by Scorcese. Admittedly not the best concert film, but just getting to see that great of a band perform (and with and all star guest list) is a treat.

23. Gangs of New York; Daniel Day-Lewis is amazing. One of Scorcese's overlooked films, but an amazing achievement. Epic.

24. The Blues Brothers; A classic example of late 70's-early 80's comedy. Full of great lines, and a chance to see some great musicians.

25. Once; This gets special mention because it had such little chance for success. Shot on a shoe-string budget with no studio backing, it was the little movie that could. Snagged an Oscar for the wonderful original music.

Honorable mention: any Coen Bros,; any Wes Anderson; The Departed; Magnolia; Snatch; Reservoir Dogs; What About Bob?; Harold and Maude; The Bad News Bears; Glengary Glen Ross; Kill Bill, Vols. 1 & 2; Stand By Me; Casino; The Outsiders; Bull Durham; blah, blah, blah...

I purposely made my list without reading anyone else's, now I've gone back and read them all. Did anyone else find it interesting how many movies showed up on multiple lists? Some are obvious, but a lot are kind of of the beaten path. There were many on other lists that I would have included on mine, had they come to mind.

Excalibur- Part for the music, partly because of Helen Mirren (BACK THEN) but the story was good and told well.

Oldboy- Possibly the most disturbing ending to a movie I have ever seen and one of the best fight scenes ever.

Tora Tora Tora- Just such an epic telling of Pearl Harbor and how it all happened. And it gives us one of the great movie quotes of all time. (Some dispute that Yamamoto actually said it)

Godfather I & II- I look at these as just one long movie. Great stories, great characters from the tragic Fredo to Luca Brazzi, and the fate of Michael Corleone to be at the top and so alone.

Terminator I & II- One is really a love story (involving killer robots, homemade C4, etc?. So its OK) and the other is such a good action story.

Trainspotting- Danny Boyle at his peak. I was either going to pick this or A Shallow Grave. The music puts Trainspotting on the list though.​

Blazing Saddles- One of the standards of comedy.​

Resevoir Dogs- Still Quentin Tarantinos best IMO.​

Casino Royale- Possibly the best of the Bond movies​

1. Star Wars - No one movie, although I prefer the original 3. A series of movies that have influenced culture in amazing ways, and they somehow still get people like me to buy their video games and what not years later.

2. Army of Darkness - You can't really include this movie without also having the predessors, Evil Dead 1 and 2. A comedic/horror film that has become a cult classic and catapulted Bruce Campbell into an iconic status. Great movies though, early work by both Campbell and Sam Raimi.

3. Back to the Future - Again, no one movie in this series, hard to pick just one without taking up more spots :lol: "1.21 Gigawatts!!" Is our favorite quote.

4. Scarface - How many times can you drop the F bomb in a movie? Lets break a record!

5. Caddyshack - Bill Murray made this movie

6. Space Balls - We watched this constantly growing up, the whole cast is hilarious, one of Rick Moranis's best films.

7. Ghost Busters 1 & 2 - More Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, and a host of others. More Sam Raimi

8. Orgasmo - A hilarious movie by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park. If you loved Basketball or South Park, this is worth finding. Another classic is their low budget "Cannibals: The Musical!"

9. Rocky IV - Probably not the best Rocky movie made, but its my favorite. My friends and I collect crappy Dolph Lundgren movies, this is his most well known performance. "I must break you."

10. 40 Year Old Virgin - The sad thing is, I know people like this...not the virgin and 40 part, but the toy collector with crap all over his house, and ends up selling it to make a living.

11. Wedding Crashers - I'm not a Vince Vaughn fan, but I find that I love a few of his movies, this happens to be one of them. The crazy girl is frickin' hilarious, as is Will Farrell's cameo.

12. 'O Brother Where Art Thou? - Just a good movie, and its neat the way they tied the Odyssey into the entire plot.

13. Lady and the Tramp - I'm a dog person, so as far as Disney movies go I'll watch this one anytime.

14. Princess Bride - My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.

15. Wayne's World - Party time, excellent. Also introduced me to the band Queen in the sing along car scene with Bohemian Rhapsody.

16. The Waterboy - Fonzie tormenting Adam Sandler with "Gaaatorade......Gaaaaaaaatorade" is kinda scary though.

17. Tommy Boy - I've been to Prehistoric Forrest in Sandusky, OH, way before they filmed this movie.

18. Bubba Hotep - Bruce Campbell as an elderly, cranky Elvis kicking undead butt in a nursing home = win. Can't wait for the prequel: Bubba Nosferatu and the curse of the She-Vampries.

19. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Only saw it just recently, but definitly a good flick.

20. The Bridge on the River Kwai - interesting fictional movie, great work by Alec Guinness

21. The Wizard of Oz - Hard to argue how well this movie was done.

22. Fight Club - I want you to hit me as hard as you can. Talk about a trip, from the surprise ending, to the little things like the images you see throughout the movie.

23. Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Your mother was a hampster, and your father smelt of elderberries!

24. Iron Man - I was a fan of the comics/character, and Downey played Tony Stark to a "T." Well done movie.

25. Braveheart - Bad ass fight scenes, thats most of the movie right there.

1) Goodfellas - This movie has everything. Great story, great acting, great cast, etc.

3) The Prestige - My favorite Christopher Nolan film. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine all play fantastic characters and play them well.

5) Pan's Labyrinth - Beautiful.
6) No Country for Old Men - Anton Chigurh = creepiest villain of the decade not in a superhero movie?
7) The Shawshank Redemption - a great story involving hope.
8) The Departed - Has some problems, but this movie throws a lot at the viewer and I liked everything it threw at me.
9) Batman Begins - Shows a side of Batman we hadn't seen before, and takes the character in a new, dark direction.
10) Seven - Fucking creepy.
11) Casino - Similar to Goodfellas, only not as good. Joe Pesci's best film, and my favorite Robert De Niro character as well.
12) Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Best. Comedy. Ever.
13) WALL-E - Best animated film ever.
14) Saving Private Ryan - Best war movie ever.
15) Lord of the Rings (trilogy) - A good 9 hour adventure, even though I find a couple of the characters kind of annoying. I really enjoy the story and I find myself never getting tired of the story, despite seeing the films so many times.
16) Little Miss Sunshine - Steve Carell at his best, and the rest of the cast is really funny as well. It's also an uplifting story.
17) Shrek - Very funny, and I think each of the actors really gets to show their personality, even though it's an animated film.
18) Casino Royale - Best Bond film, and that's saying something. Daniel Craig has brought back the Bond swagger. Can't wait for the next one.
19) Jurassic Park - Still has the best CGI.. and the T-Rex scene is still pretty intense.
20) Gladiator - Not a big Ridley Scott fan, but this film is entertaining.
21) The Fountain - Sad, and Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz have some major chemistry.
22) A Beautiful Mind - Russell Crowe's best acting performance, but it does drag at times.
23) V for Vendetta - If Natalie Portman were more believable, this film would be higher. Still a really good movie, although a little far-fetched.
24) Sin City - Visually stunning, and action-packed.
25) Office Space - Hilarious, and everyone can relate.

It's amazing that I can totally agree with you on half the list and hate the other half. You must have loved Oscar season last year. I personally thought it was the worst class of best picture nominees that I can remember.
I didn't know who Christopher Nolan was before The Dark Knight, but now that I check out his filmography I watched all but 1 of his films and loved them all.
