Your reaction at that time?

I'll bite.

I was living in Columbus at the time. Just had ACL reconstruction the week before, so I was pretty much sitting the whole game until that play when I jump up and yelled at the TV "WHERE'S THE FUCKING FLAG!?!?!" after being pissed off all night at the non-calls. When I heard "Late Flag", I remember my buddy (who is a die-hard michigan fan) turned to me and said, "Its about God-damned time they threw a flag. Miami has been getting away with murder all night."

Then it was Miami's turn. On that fourth down, I was at the edge of my seat, and when they got to Dorsey, I jumped up again and and cheered. That time I must have twisted my newly sewn up knee and a surge of searing pain went through my whole leg, but I didn't care as I was really, really happy (and I had my percocets to help with that later ).

After the game was over, we went out back on my deck to have a cigarette (still smoked way back then) and you could hear The Buckeye Battle Cry in the distance, people cheering, "OH-IO" chants. It was pretty damn cool!:osu:

I'll play.

Long years of Ohio residency have resulted in an unyielding conviction that I (in some quantum physics/butterfly effect fashion) by the very act of viewing a game can negatively affect its outcome. Having already tempted the gods by watching four quarters of the NC game live, when it went to overtime tied, I put in a videotape. My daughter distracted herself with schoolwork while I went upstairs & forced myself to concentrate on music. Once or twice I flipped the TV on just long enough to see the game was still on--it felt like it was never going to end. Finally, at the same moment I'd tuned in to see people running onto the field, my daughter walked to the door, saying a little incredulously, "So...they won?" It took a minute to really feel sure the game was over. Oh, and, we were both happy. Happy Happy Happy...to this very day. Still watch the tape every once in a while. Still have my "Thanks for a Perfect Season 14-0" t-shirt--most comfortable piece of clothing I own.

As for "The Call": every time I watch that part of the game, I cringe. "Bad call! Bad call" is shouted with all the indignant outrage of a man who bet his farm on Miami. It does take a little something away from the game for me, like having a fly land on the corner of your birthday cake. Would have been nice to hear the same degree of righteous anger over the equally-game-changing holding call ignored during regulation...but, we're not here to discuss that, right? :)

To answer the original question:

When the pass originally went incomplete, I looked at my wife and started to say "Well, they outperformed my expectations for the year..." but I didn't even make it that far before they spotted the flag on the field.

Then, when they showed the replay and Fouts said, "Bad call... bad call" I just shook my head, realizing that his idiocy had made any OSU win controversial, when it was SO obvious that the camera angle where he said that only showed the players in question during half the flight of the ball at most. For him to have declared it a bad call on what was (again) SO obviously incomplete evidence was appallingly unprofessional. But it's Dan Fouts, what do you expect.

Then, when Grant rag-dolled Dorsey, I looked at my wife and just cracked a wry-smile. I had been laid off the day before, on the same day that our son had come home for the first time after spending his first 12 and 1/2 days in the hospital (with a $50K bill). My personal life sucked pretty bad, but it was worth an NC.

That brings me to what I expect to happen on Monday. The company I'm working for is about to go under. I strongly suspect that I'll be laid off on Monday. Every time I've ever been laid off, the Buckeyes have won a National Championship.

The fact that the Buckeyes are about to play Miami again just adds to the deja vu.

Maybe I'll be proved wrong as things go, and there is a track record here, of course... but.. the thread looks legit to me, and the Miami poster has tried to stay on point....

So you're saying you DON'T vouch for him???

I was at the game sitting in the first row behind the Miami sidelines. The whole sidelines with all the former players were jumping up and down after that play... once they said penalty on the play, I remember Warren Sapp in his ugly ass sweater, his face just dropped and I laughed at him. After OSU won the game, I just jumped around with the other Buckeye fans, high fiving inside a mosh pit of glory.

When the ball hit the ground, I dropped to my knees and just put my head on the floor, then I hear my dad just scream "THERE'S A FLAG!!!" Couldn't believe it. Then when Cie Grant pressured Dorsey, I'm just thinkin for the love of god please don't let go of him, then my dad and I went ape shit when they won, thank god it wasn't a school night then cause I believe I stayed up watching post game stuff til about 3 in the morning

My mom and I had just moved to Indiana a few months before, and were watching the game on a somewhat crappy antenna signal. By the start of the 4th quarter she had moved to her room (she's like localyokel and thinks the games go better when they're close and she isn't watching) to watch something else, so I was shouting updates to her from the living room. When the play looked like an incomplete I started to sit down (had been standing/on the edge of my seat most of the game), and then when the flag was pointed out I was back up and cheering. When we took down Dorsey I yelled "We won!" multiple times, which finally got my mom to come back out to the living room. I wanted to stay up and watch all the post game stuff, but the adrenaline rush wore off very quickly that night, so I was gone after Carmen Ohio and the trophy presentation.

Tempe, Columbus, party on! :oh:

My very first thought when the pass went incomplete was, "I just watched one of the best games ever but they had their chance to win and no one will ever remember that". My reasoning was that back then the media hated the Buckeyes even more than they do today (if that is even possible) and I actually spent most of my time listening to the crap back then.

Then I saw the flag and my thoughts were confirmed. The blatant bias shown by the joke of a commentator were exactly what I expected over the next few days.

Then as soon as I saw Grant blitz I knew he would have Dorsey in his grasp and only a prayer would save them. The game was over and I just grinned knowing no matter what was said in the media, the Buckeyes would forever have won the game and outplayed one of the most talented teams to play college ball together.

Section 13, Row 12
Sun Devil Stadium Tempe, AZ

Pretty much one of the best nights of my life. I remember when the PI happened an OSU fan was next to me as the ball hit the turf. He hit his knees, and started to cry. I saw the flag, and said something like "You're a bitch, get up, there's a flag!". When we won, I partied in Columbus west (Tempe), with 200,000 of my closest friends.

Nobody travels like the Buckeyes!

The penalty call in our NC game.
Where were you and what was your reaction after the play and before the penalty was called?

I remember jumping up and down going ape [censored] and then what. WTF. Had a stack of newspapers next to my chair that got flung all over the place.

Then the 4th down play.

After you guys scored a TD in the next overtime. Miami has 4th and goal and we got stopped.

Where were you?

I remember laying down on my living room floor said a prayer then after the play just bowed my head down in disbelief. I don't think i moved for 3 days.

No flame intended this was a subject on a miami board before just want to hear that moment and reaction from some Buckeye fans.
Actually, this is a good question, and I remember my response very distinctly. My initial response (as the fireworks were going off) was "Well, we probably didn't really deserve to get this far, but it still sucks to lose on the last play of the game."

Then the flag came in, and I was in a state of disbelief. After Holy Buckeye! and the OT win against Illinois and the goal line interception against Michigan, the PI call (whether right or wrong, whether appropriate or not) was the most miraculous miracle a charmed season. Sorry Miami fan, the football gods were just against you that night, and Ohio State was the team of destiny.

After the call, I knew that Miami was finished.

The in-law's house, watching the game with them. The pass went in the air and I stood up from the couch. The pass fell in complete and I fell to my knees in disbelief thinking "So close. So close"

When I realized the flag had been thrown, I stood and celebrated. We had a chance to finish this thing.

I recall puking at the end of the Illinois game, because the stress and Vodka got the best of me. I remember destroying my hand on the ceiling fan on "Holy Buckeye", and rushing the field at the end of the scUM game.

But none of it equaled the celebration in Hilliard at the end of the title game.

I was actually visiting my family in Lithopolis after I had just moved to Jacksonville, Fla. We were watching the game in the living room and my heart dropped when they made the FG to tie and I thought UM would win in overtime.

When the pass went up, the angle was bad, but I was screaming for a PI call. When I saw the Miami players running on the field I kind of sat down, then heard "now there is a penalty flag" and started going ballistic. We all jumped and screamed and had hope again.

As we sat in anticipation of the final play of the goal line stand we devised our celebration. As soon as Dorsey was on the turf, we bolted out the backdoor. My cousin blasted his muzzleloader into the air a couple times while we sprinted around my uncle's pond in the snow, screaming and going apeshit. More than likely scaring the shit out of the neighbors.

not a fan of either school, but i'll give my reaction.

i really and truly felt that Miami team was the most talented squad i'd ever seen.

really wasn't pulling for either team, just hoped OSU kept it a good game.
as the game went on, i starting really wanting OSU to win it. Nothing like watching a team that's "not supposed to have a chance" hang around like that.

when that pass was incomplete, i was just disappointed that the game was over. i wasn't ready for the game (or college football season) to end just yet.

when I saw the flag, i told my wife "no way Miami recovers from this"

to go from being National Champs, to get your ass back out there, it ain't over is too big of a roller coaster ride for most 18-21 year olds to handle.
