Your reaction at that time?

Oh, I think it makes about 99-1 you win it there, but I think a punt is possible and they can be blocked or run back. Stuff.

Yeah, I went through an estimated timeline play-by-play on the likeliest scenario in another thread in which our non-troll discussed the OT penalty. It ended with JT having the punter kick the ball well out of bounds with about 20 seconds left.

But a good snap on the punt and no completed bombs/no PI in about 3 plays for Miami were still needed.

I was on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Nordic Empress somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico between Cozumel and Tampa. The ship picked up a satellite reception (which went blank during the commercials and half time) and piped it into a lounge. There were about 150 of us watching the game and I'd estimate that 95% were for Ohio State. The general reaction when the flag was thrown was the same as these fans: Yippee!!!

I was at a coach's house with a pile of SEC-ACC fans...I had one guy pulling for tOSU with me and the rest were either for Miami or just getting hammered and talking sheesh to me.

I distinctly remember the pre-party and 'poor mouthing' the Buckeyes' chances Once the game started rolling, I remember those big mouths getting quieter by the minute.

Late in the second half I was walking a pathway in the carpet.

On the call, I immediately asked for the flag...then I put my head down and our former DL coach started smacking me on the back about the flag. Nobody complained...they all saw the replay and said Fouts was an idiot.

After it was over, the whole room was happy for JT and the Bucks.

I was sitting next to a fair weather Miami fan (which describes all their fans) and it was a shocking night to say the least!

When Gamble got interfered with my first thoughts and reactions were "No, please, we were so close....." and I hung my head. Then I heard "Late Flag" and knew right away that we had been given life.

On that 4th down play I expected there to just be a jump ball in the endzone so I won't lie I wasn't expecting us to convert. When we converted I just had to shake my head and I started thinking about all the close games we've played that year and how we ALWAYS pulled them out. I felt good about our chances from there on...

When Cie Grant slung Dorsey to the ground for the Win I didn't say anything to the guy next to me (he got up and left) I just put my hands in the air and said over and over "OH MY GOD!" Then of course the satisfaction that came afterwards with watching Tressel and the guys on the podium and watching sportcenter was maybe the best part.

Bolded the relevant parts (to me)

SEC-ACC fans or not -- it was a room full of people who know football.

I was 12 years old and '02 was only the second year that I REALLY followed Buckeye football. Like just about every other fourth quarter/OT that season I was tightly balled up on the corner of the couch. I had wide eyes and my grey tOSU sweatshirt on. My sweaty palms clutched a container of orange tic-tacs that had been empty since the third quarter. When I saw Krenzel's pass fall incomplete I never looked away. Everything else that year had eventually gone our way. I was young enough to believe that this would too. When I saw the flag I just looked to the ceiling and quietly exhaled a sigh of relief. Just like I had when MoC stripped Sean Taylor, just like Holy Buckeye, just like OT in Illinois, just like Will Allen's pick in The Game. After we won I smiled, all the way home, all the way to bed (at 1 in the morning!!!!), and for the rest of the week. I definitely didn't understand the enormity of what we did that season until a lot later, but it was awesome.:osu:

There was 2:18 left at the end of the Gamble play, and Miami had 1 timeout left.

Call the hold and it's a first down. Call the catch in bounds and it's a first down. Either way the bucks sit on the ball for three plays and probably take a knee on the fourth.

With the Miami timeout, there'd still be some time on the clock. tOSU taking a knee on 4th down would have been a disaster, since that stops the clock immediately on a change of possession, giving Miami the ball near midfiled with time for a couple of plays and a FG attempt.

The 4th down play would have been 'the most important play in football'. :wink2:

Good stuff you guys. I could bicker about the PI call. Atleast we got to play in this game. Look at 2000. How does FSU play Oklahoma? We beat FSU that year. Bull shit.

I'm still twisted about that little bastard who stole the ball from Tony Tarasco in the ALCS in 1996 at the Urinal that Ruth Built.

Don't worry about being twisted about a call, good or bad. That's what makes sports great

 This is the second time you've said this.. I would like to hear how you could "bicker." It was PI & holding - without question. That's not my scarlet & gray glasses dude.. you need to take off your DA U googles and stop listening to Fouts.

That was, without question, the proper call.

My wife and I were living in North Carolina at the time. For the life of me, I can't remember completely, but I don't believe I watched the game with anyone else. And, no, it wasn't a matter of inebriation. I was so engrossed in the game. There wasn't anything else going on in my world that day as I was so hyped up for the Buckeyes.
Anyway, as numerous others have stated, I was in an elated-pissed mood through much of the game as I felt the Bucks were getting hosed. And yet, they were still in the game.
When the pass fell short in the end zone, I fell to my knees with my head in my hands after I'd yelled, "NO!". I then heard the announcer mention the flag. I looked up, and the rest was history. I had so much adrenaline that it was hard to sleep well after the game was over.
