High School Youngstown Cardinal Mooney Cardinals

Mooney v. DeSales at 11am tomorrow for the DIII state title. You can watch it online ohiohssports.com or on TV on STO
...If Mooney wins they are hands down the best team in the state and they deserve a USA Today 25 spot...but the have to WIN first, very tough to beat a team twice, especially a great team like DeSales.

Mooney's first TD, long run by Vinopal. Coach stepped in front of rest of run, but he almost lost his mouthpiece on this facemask.

Chris Rock:

Alex Zordich (in a generation or two Mooney will have a family tree large enough to take over a small football conference with players & coaches alike)

Impressive, tough run by Zordich on this play, breaking 4-5 tackles and dragging the pile.

Braylon Heard gets loose like he did all day, this time against Chris Rock.

Mooney tackles the punt returner at the 2.

I missed one long TD by Heard that went away from me, while getting shots of the DeSales D and Chris Rock. After that...

Heard gets loose again down the sideline, this time for a score.

Then they held the Wendy's Heisman competition, which was punt, pass & strike the pose.

Contestant 1 put up a good effort, turned in solid if unspectacular throws.

Contestant 2 won over the crowd and then turned in an impressive performance.

Contestant 3, the only male involved, kicked a lot shorter than the previous contestant

And was met with a chorus of boos.

091204_0708-vi.jpg

The boos grew louder after he also threw a duck much shorter than her...

091204_0710-vi.jpg

And struck a terrible heisman pose.

They determined the winner by cheers. Contestant 1 got solid support, #2 got loud cheers, & #3 had the loudest response but 99% boos.

Braylon would add to his 2 td runs with a TD pass in the 2nd half to Donald D'Alesio

Braylon would tack on an interception soon afterwards.

Unbeaten Cardinals dominate Spartans - High School Football - Ohio Blitz on Vindy.com

YOUNGSTOWN

On Mooney’s first offensive play Friday night, sophomore quarterback Courtney Love — who was making his first start — took the snap, rolled right and fired his pass straight into the hands of Boardman linebacker Dan Popio.

Over the next 51 plays, Cardinals coach P.J. Fecko called one more pass.

“That’s how it usually is, isn’t it?” Fecko said, laughing.

Despite losing just about every notable player from last year’s state championship team, Mooney (2-0) stayed unbeaten with a 28-6 victory that looked an awful lot like every other victory in the program’s history. The Cardinals dominated up front on both sides of the ball, rolling up a 307-10 advantage in rushing yards.
