That leads me to my next point. Isn't it amusing when your walking through a grocery store and get a peek at the overweight person driving the rascal's(scooter) grocery assortment. They've got bags of potato chips, pizza rolls, ice cream, and DIET COKE. What the hell? Diet coke? As if the 150 calories that you save from going lite on your soda preference is making any kind of difference. At that point, you might as well stop fooling yourself and tear into some Cherry Coke or something like that.
I worked at Donatos back in college and there were these two enormous women that would come in from time to time and this was their standard order:
1 large "Works" pizza (5 toppings)
2 side salads
1 pitcher of Diet Coke.

I always got a good laugh out of that.

The people that are ordering Diet Coke with their Double Whoppers with cheese and a large fries are drugs addicts.

They aren't trying to "cut calories" or pretend they are trying to watch their figures. That stuff is chock full of Aspartame(Nutrasweet) and it is an addictive substance.

Their are all kinds of studies done about its long term effects and many of those are pretty controversial but it is addictive, like caffeine and nicotine are, that's been proven.

Not to be too much of a skeptic, but do you have a link to any studies showing this? All I could find with an admittedly brief Google search were some pretty sketchy papers.

To/about what, the controversial crap that tries to blame aspartame for cancer, ms and toxicity or to the addictive nature of caffeine, nicotine and phenylaline ?

You sound like my wife. Those "studies" are all bullshit. I can give you a link to a study done by the American Cancer Institute that says there is no link between Aspartame and Cancer, which is what people want you to believe is the health risk. As far as it being addictive, I drink only diet soda and I just suffer from missing the caffeine when I don't have one in a few days since I don't drink coffee or anything like that. I do prefer the Splenda versions of Diet Coke though over the regular, purely because of taste.

To the addictive nature of the aspartame itself.

Dang it..I went back and looked for the old site I had read the article on that talked about this. I don't know how long ago it was but that site is now chock full of all kinds of crazyness about aspartame, including the aforementioned "causes cancer", "symptoms like MS" and all the other crackpot stuff. I went to see if it was the study republished or had been revisited/retested and had no luck.

All I have now is my personal empirical observations of my aunt and what happens to her body and her personality when she is denied her Diet Coke.

I did realize that much of what I had locked in my head about aspartame turns out to be about saccharine so perhaps I was mixing them up? I don't know for sure now........

I feel a bit like when I found out Santa was my parents. :(

Um, I never said anything about those studies linking cancer and aspartame being true. Read my post again.
