The article says she had guardianship over him at the time, which I imagine is against the law regardless of the age of the minor...? Board Lawyers?

I would be interested in a study as well. perhaps it is the danger and forbidden fruit that attracts them

Heres your study...

They like underage kids. Sexual temptation pushes them over the edge

But this isn't like Sandusky...this is not women wanting prepubescent boys. These are young men well past puberty and likely to be very attractive to their own aged girls and very sexually active (er, well except for that one teacher who gave the kid head because she said she felt sorry for him because he got no play, but anyway...), underage yes, wrong yes, but not really pedophiles...this is a strange phenomenon because it doesn't really fit a traditional category.

Sure, I agree for most cases. But again, sexual temptation takes over especially the young boys. Once they start, ain't no stopping

Well sure...it isn't the boys' willingness (especially if they are 15-18) to participate that has people baffled...it is why the women, many of whom could probably bag any dude they wanted at any club or bar at anytime, choose instead to carry on with underage boys that will ruin their lives. What is the overwhelming appeal of that? I must say I don't know. If I had a nickel for every time I heard post-college women complain "God, that guy is so immature...he will never grow up" and yet these professional women are all going after actual boys...it is weird.

That is exactly my quandary. I have no idea what could prompt these women to do this. The risk is so high, yet the reward is so low, and the penalty so great, while at the same time their ability to fulfill simple sexual craving is pretty darned easy.

When you go to a club or bar to get busy you are a one night stand for some random guy and will likely become just another drunken story or worse for him and his friends. You may also come away with a fun venereal disease or three as a token for your efforts.

When you go to your classroom to get busy you have all the power in the relationship which will last longer than a one night stand. You could even view yourself as a "kingmaker" of sorts, because who is cooler in high school than the kid getting laid by an older woman?

Some people obviously find the second option more attractive than the first despite the clear risk of destroying your life that is involved.

Option two (which may overlap significantly with the first) is that some people are just incredibly stupid with extremely low self esteem.

That would be my best guess as to the underlying causes.

Just retired from 28 years in K-12 education in California. Having seen more of these cases than thought possible, I am convinced that there has been more going on than reported. One would expect the middle-aged male teacher and the provocative teen age girl, but what jumps out is the number of middle-aged women teachers and the teen aged boys.

Had it happened to me, I would have rented a billboard to shout it out. OK, with today's social media, it's waaaay easier to broadcast around.

Bottom line is that more happened than we will ever know, and more with the female teacher and student than was ever deemed possible.

Just to add on to this thought, it could be there desire to teach the young man how to be the lover that they want. They can easily mold them and be in control of the love making, which is something they might not otherwise be able to do. I see it as definitely a power/control scenario.
