Sigh once again Smith drops the ball

these self imposed sanctions are a joke and I can't believe we put this out there. Just putting this out here: we went against the sanctions that were recommended to us by an independent firm.

No offense, but if there is one person I hate getting bad news from, it's you.

Was the firm recommending post season bans? I'd be willing to give up schollies and add probation years to avoid the bans.

I made a post in the past few weeks what I expect the punishment would be. If OSU stepped up and said a post season ban of one year, 4 years of probation, and a reduction of 6 scholarships over the next 3 years (2 a year) the NCAA probably would have been fine with that, but no let's show we learned nothing. So stupid. You're now forcing the NCAA to give a proper punishment.

Hell Michigan's self imposed punishment was worse than ours for not filling out compliance forms and improper practicing time limits.

So it seems like the school feels the two year probation and vacating the 2010 season will lead to no more punishment which I feel is very good

Not out of woods yet. Seems like these self imposed penalties JUST address the fact Tressel knew about the tats. IE just addressing the initial letter of findings the NCAA gave us.

I would assume this does not address the cars, TP, and the current players mentioned in the SI article. THAT's where the heavy penalties would come from, I would think.

Of course this is just my view of what is happening. (unless of course this does include everything... then all bets are off)

Yes but I thought we were in the clear with the cars, TP is not going to speak to the ncaa so unless they find some better evidence we are in the clear with that. Gene Smith also mentions in the article no other employees were at fault other then Tressel and they forced him out that should only help with the ncaa

I dont believe there are any other issues with the "cars" or "TP". I would assume that those concerns would be in the NOA and the board would have addressed them in this response, but I could be wrong. The SI article was just a bunch of BS and fluff anyways so I never even paid attention to it at all.

Now if the NCAA found more information while digging that we did not address then we are in big trouble.

I also agree that Smith should have looked at scholarships and more probation than what he listed. I'm almost getting a sense of he knows he's on his way out sort of thing and is going to take us with him. Could just be my paranoia though. :susp:

Isn't idiocy/stupidity what we've come to expect from our present AD?

Yes, the response is plain sad, check this out:

"The responsibility is upon Tressel. No other institutional personnel were aware" of the violations, and the former coach failed in his obligation to report them, the response says. "The institution is embarrassed by the actions of Tressel."

The university argues that Tressel's "integrity and proven history of promoting rules compliance," combined with his team's improving academic performance and other factors, should mitigate the severity of any NCAA sanctions. It also notes that he and his wife have donated $3 million since 2001, primarily to Ohio State.

So we are embarrassed by the actions of Tressel yet we lean on his reputation in order to get off easy from the NCAA, umm okay.

Any chance that the info the dispatch is getting is wrong or incomplete?
