i'll pose this question again since I don't think it was answered...

let's assume OSU isnt treated as a repeat offender, will there really be much punishment? To me the big punishment will come if they are treated that way

We'll probably get vacated wins because Tressel knowingly played ineligible players. I'd consider that a pretty big punishment.

Speak of the devil, I love how Herbie says Cooper would of been lined up and shot while people are blindly supporting Tressel, like there isn't a MASSIVE gulf between the two as far as what they've done for the university. Disregarding football completely, Tressel has done far more for this university than Cooper ever did. Only thing Cooper was useful for was A) leaving us with most of the players who would win us our first NC in 30 years and B) giving us Jim Tressel in the first place. The fact that Herbstreit compares the two is fucking laughable.

it was never answered before, but the NCAA ruled we used 6 current ineligible players, and one former ineligible player in wake of tat-gate.

Is that a recent development?

I thought all parties were current players...did I miss/forget something?

Vacating wins is just a grandstand move by the NCAA to make themselves look competent to casual fans. Everyone here knows they won 12 games last year. The players know they won the games, they can still tell their grandkids about it. If that's all that ends up happening, I'll be relieved.

As funny as it's going to be watching Auburn give their trophy back, I'd rather they keep the wins and get SMU'd.

The next morning, Tressel forwarded Cicero's first email to Sarniak, as previously reported by The Dispatch. "This guy, Chris Cicero, is a criminal lawyer in town. He played here when I was an assistant coach in the early 1980s. He has always looked out for us. jt"

I believe this is also new to the public...certainly makes the argument he dismissed Cicero as a credible source moot. Even after it was acknowledged that JT had been in contact with Cicero, people believed Cicero may not of had JT's full attention.

I don't like the phrase "He has always looked out for us. jt". Kind of lends itself to other situations being covered up due to his intel...

The 7th player is apparently new information to the public. At this point, he is not yet identified publicly, but it sounds as though he's no longer a part of the team. He is alleged to have sold his '08 Big Ten ring for ring for $1,500, his 2008 and '09 gold pants for $250 each, a game helmet ($15) and a pair of game pants ($30) from the 2009 Michigan game and a watch from the 2010 Rose Bowl ($250). The total value of the items was $2,430. He also allegedly received a $55 discount on two tattoos, and $100 for obtaining team autographs on two replica football helmets for Rife. Rife also gave the player an estimated $2,420 discount on the purchase of a used vehicle and an $800 loan for vehicle repairs.

Since his involvement has apparently been discovered only recently, it shouldn't have any impact on JT's situation or the way that the NCAA treat tOSU.

The Ozone has put the letters in readable form. Item 'g' at the bottom of the first page is the new information.

thanks BB73...must spread reputation before giving it to you again.

My thought process is that this was probably an older player who may have introduced the younger guys to Rife. It's only a matter of time before more upper-classmen are outed for doing the same things the current players are suspended for.

Indeed. I feel like my memory has already been wiped clean.

On a side note, what ever happened to the 1999 basketball tourney?

We might vacate wins, including one less win against Michigan in the record books.

In addition to four offensive starters out for five games.
Tressel out for five games, might be suspended longer.
The possibility that we could lose coach Tressel.

Can't downplay those.

I have no idea what the administration can say to the NCAA now..it seems the NCAA has decided that Tressel lied and played ineligible players to gain an advantage. Any try to muddy the waters or down-play the situation will probably not be met kindly by the NCAA.
