XBox Red rings of Death

Gatorubet

Loathing All Things Georgia
Thing is only one year old. 3 Year warranty for red ring of death stuff. So I check and the kid did not register. So I put in serial number, and they tell me that the warranty is expired. Bullshit, the thing is one year old. They say, feel free to "dispute" warranty, and send it in after printing on line shipping label.

So I read the fine print, and it says that I agree to use the laws of Washington state, and blah blah blah. Bullshit. I do NOT accept that, as Louisiana has the best consumer statute in the country, so I do not click "I accept" nor do I get the shipping label. (how Louisiana has the great law I have no freaking idea, but it is a hundred years old and says that if you bought it and it has a defect so that you would not have bought it had you known if would break, they have to fix it! You can't lose the damn thing if you tried!!)

So tomorrow I will call customer service, get told some bullshit, and then sue them for attorneys fees and a new x-box if they refuse to honeor the warranty. I have the two game promotional gift sent with the 07 XBox holiday promotion, I have the bank statement showing the $350 debit card purchase at Game Stop last december, but the customer service FAQ says if I do not have the original receipt they will not fix it for free.

They have to know good and well that I am in the three year warranty period when the thing was purchased last year....I smell fraud

We'll see :paranoid:

i hadn't registered mine before it RRoD'd and i didn't have a problem with getting a "new" one sent to me. on the other hand, my overall customer service experience with xbox wasn't exactly pleasant either. good luck with everything.

Gamestop sometimes resells used games as new. It's possible they did the same here.

If indeed it is over 3 years old, then perhaps your lawsuit should be with Gamestop.

That would be interesting if true. They sold it as new, hence the '07 promotion games being included. We will see....the statute applies to both buyers and sellers, so I have two options. Now you mention it, the last four of the serial number is 2005. Hmmmmmmmmm........ :paranoid:

I may send it and get it fixed for $95.00 and then go after them for the $95 and fees.

If I wait for a cogent answer from those bastards, my kid will be a college graduate before it is resolved.

I really don't care how old it is from a manufactured standpoint, it is how old is it from a sold date standpoint...but I see your point.

if it's anything like I have experienced with Microsoft, as long as they can repair/replace and not refund, odds are they will bend over for you. Just keep escalating it, if someone says "our records show" ask to speak to a supervisor.

:smash: Well, I asked my son with the good eyes to read the little numbers to his blind dad :paranoid: - and he neglected to tell me it had a manufactured date on it. :tongue2: Oct 2007 baby.

So that means you give them the serial number, they KNOW it is a 2007 box, and yet they automatically tell me on the on-line registration site that it is beyond the warranty even tho they say a three quarter red ring is a three year warranty deal :pissed:

That is just fraud, considering that they know the serial number code and the fact that the first number of the last five digits of the serial number means the years manufactured. :shake: Bastards. No worries now.

Thanks for the help guys

wait did you actually talk to xbox customer service or just try to check the warranty online? if you just checked online i think that would explain things because i don't think that they account for the RRoD extended warranty online so it would show up as expired. no?

Hell, who knows? But if they have a 3 year warranty - how they get to ignore it "online" is still fraud. It is or it ain't 3 year. If mom and dad go on line and are told it is not under warranty so send us the $95 - as it did, then that it a freaking lie.

maybe i was just asking because when i checked online when my warranty came up it said one year not 3. so, i assume if you called you would be able to get it fixed without sueing.

Oh - I do not want to waste a minute on this, but it pisses me off that they are taking advantage of less litigation friendly folks:tongue2:

I'll put this in their beds if they refuse

Depends on what the problem is. The 3 year ONLY covers the 3 red rings (the design flaw from MS). Everything else is only 1 year.

Also, Gamestop does not sell used systems as new. I worked there for years.

Well that there's your problem. You bought a 360 in 2007 knowing it was defective and would eventually RRoD!
