XBox 360, PS3 or Wii? ( ESPN on 360 for TWC)

Got a new TV for the upcoming football season. Rock Band 2 and NCAA 2010 look really good on it in 1080i, much better than my last HDTV. The problem is I have an older 360 that doesn't have an HDMI port. I can only imagine how good it would look in 1080p. Before I invest in a newer 360 I was wondering if anyone had any experience with going from 1080i to 1080p so I had some idea how much of a dramatic difference on quality I could expect? Thanks in advance.

And for the record, despite the new TV I guarantee I lead the country in interceptions throwns. :sad2:

I've got nothing for ya nutty.

Whether it's the PS3 Slim or the PS3 Rocket Ride, something is happening in Sony land. Let's review the crazy (and growing) pile of evidence: • The 80GB PS3 is being discontinued</a. in Japan by the manufacturer's request. Meanwhile, price cuts on various bundles are happening all around the world. HMM.
Digitimes reports Sony is seriously ramping up orders for "key PS3 components," enough to build a million consoles over the next three months. Even though, you know, they've been selling fewer PS3s. HMMMM.
Amazon lists a PS3 "Konsole Slim." Hmm.
• Last but not least, speculation that we'll see the PS3 Slim show its prettier face at gamecom on August 18. HHMMMMMM.

During their Q2 investor conference call one of the Sony execs was asked how much cheaper the PS3 is to manufacture now than before when it was launched. The exec responded, "about 70%."

The original launch PS3 cost something around $865 to make. I don't know that Sony could get that model down $600 to the $250-ish range in cost to manufacture without a major reduction in power. Their admission of build price would seem to indicate that slim production has been going on for awhile, and the big units have been at the stock depletion stage for over a month now.

I think the next big industry conference is GDC Austin in mid-September. Sony will probably announce a $299 slim then.

That's crazy how much it cost to make a PS3 at first, and the fact that they were still able to keep selling them at half of what it cost to make them...I'm guessing they made money off the games and accessories, because it obviously wasn't off of their online gaming since its free. Anyone have any insight to this?

IMO, it was all about winning the HD format war for Blu-Ray.

Uh, since the PS3 launched, Sony's games division has lost 232B yen in the fiscal year ending 2007, 124B yen in the year ending 2008, and 58B yen in the year ending 2009. That's 414B yen Sony gaming has lost since the PS3 launch.

10 years ago the gaming division carried Sony while all the other departments hemorrhaged money. Now, it's the sale of Bravia TVs that has carried the company while the gaming division pissed away more money in just three years with the PS3 than the PSX and PS2 made them over fifteen years combined.

While we're waiting for Sony to announce a cheaper, slimmer PS3 during a press conference later today, K-Mart has this announcement on their front page...now. It looks like we get a new model and price drops on old PS3s. UPDATE: K-Mart now has a pre-order page up as well for a $299 Slim (the same pricing we've seen leaked before...by K-Mart. Either they're the biggest screw-ups in retailer history, or Sony doesn't mind (and has even encouraged) the leaks.

For $300 I will pick one up and it will have it's rightful place in my man cave.
I hope a bear goes on a staycation and takes a giant shit in your man cave and teaches you to use a less trendy word.

Sony's PlayStation 3 Slim Is $300 in September - playstation 3 slim - Gizmodo
As if K-Mart's front-page ad wasn't enough to confirm, Sony's officially announced their PlayStation 3 Slim that retails for $100 less than the current PlayStation 3 fat, which is also getting a price cut. Live updates coming.

The slim will come with a 120GB drive, and will be 32% smaller and 36% lighter than the standard PlayStation 3, as well as using 34% less power. The $300 price will apply to all PlayStation 3s starting tomorrow. The Slim will be available everywhere by the first week of September.
Here are some more details. The 80GB PS3 (current model) will be discounted to $300, whereas the 160GB PS3 will be $400. There will be a new PS3 logo as well as modifications to the official name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3 as to not be shouting all the time.
It'll also have a BRAVIA Sync feature that'll allow you to control the PS3's XMB with your Sony TV remote as long as they're connected via HDMI. And the TV will automatically turn off the PS3 when the TV goes off.
There's also a vertical stand retailing for $24 on September 3. Whether or not you can stand it up vertically for long periods of time without the stand is unknown. Sony also says that they're eliminating the feature of installing other operating systems on the Slim, so no more Linux.
Oh, and there will only be two USB ports.

Does anyone know where to find a good discount on XBL? I've spent the last month or so looking, and while looking, my subscription ran out. There haven't been any $28 year subscriptions for a few months, but I'd hate to drop almost twice that and pay retail (since I bet it will drop again soon).
