XB Xavier Johnson (Houston Texans)

I had to look up the roster this morning to see who was Johnson that toted the ball a few times yesterday.
Congrats to Xavier!

ON BENDED KNEE
Make no mistake, Ryan Day is the man, but I'm not a fan of apologizing to Scott Frost in the post-game presser for scoring a touchdown on Ohio State's final possession of the game.

First off, Nebraska's own stank - running three plays for -3 yards and taking just 1:33 off the clock - put Ohio State in position to get the ball back. Then its punter uncorked a 31-yard shank giving the Buckeyes the ball at the Nebraska 40.

Day inserted a true freshman quarterback and nothing but reserves at every other position before running it six times in a row. No throws. Only one of those runs went out of bounds and it's not like Ohio State was running a hurry up offense.

Hell, Xavier Johnson, a fourth-string running back with zero collegiate carries, who is probably fourth string only because Marcus Crowley and Miyan Williams are out, logged four of those runs, going for 17 yards.

I fully support being respectful of your opponent but I support even more the notion of being respectful to your own players. Johnson may never see another carry in his Ohio State football career and he'll remember yesterday for the rest of his life.

Frost will have forgotten about that fair and square possession by tomorrow, if he hasn't already.

Emeka Egbuka, who’s viewed as Fleming’s top competition for the third starting spot at receiver, spent Thursday’s practice with the second-team offense alongside with Xavier Johnson and Jayden Ballard.

Players who took first-team reps with the punting unit included Mitch Rossi, Mitchell, Eichenberg, Chambers, Xavier Johnson, Kourt Williams, Fleming, Smith-Njigba, Gee Scott Jr., Cade Stover and Bennett Christian.

  • Xavier Johnson impressed during reps with the second- and third-team offenses. The fifth-year Buckeye wideout picked up a big gain over the middle of the field on a pass from Brown into a tight window during 11-on-11 work.

Johnson said he hasn’t taken any reps at running back since Pryor went down, but he would make the adjustment if the coaching staff asked him to.

“I've been a part of five teams now, and I would say that this is definitely one of the teams that has the most love, most chemistry. So just for that reason and that reason alone, shoot, I would ask the Lord for strength to help me through the situation and then go in there and get my notebook out, my iPad out and figure out exactly what they need me to do,” Johnson said. “I'm just here to kind of help the team win and glorify the Lord by doing it.”

Just the 1,138th-ranked recruit in the nation when he entered the program, Johnson's dedication to the success of the team – even if it occasionally comes at his own expense –has garnered Johnson no shortage of admiration from his teammates and coaching staff.

Just sayin': Sounds like a "great team player". Whether it is on the 2nd team, 3rd team, or the scout team; you need players like that to win championships.
