Wow, George "the Animal" Steele. I totally forgot about him. Looked him up on Google and he has his own website. He went to MSU (he played football there), and got a Masters from CMU. He was a teacher and coach at Madison Heights in Michigan (I used to live right by Madison Heights in Royal Oak). Could you imagine George the Animal Steele as your teacher?

Jerry Lawler passed out in the middle of the telecast tonight and they had to do CPR on him in the back of the arena. Took him to local hospital and he is now breathing on his own.

It was a legit emergency, not part of the show.

BUT, dude wrestled earlier in the show. I'd say it's time to hang up the boots for good.

Lawler has heart attack during 'Raw'

"Monday Night Raw" announcer Jerry Lawler had a heart attack and collapsed while on-air and was transported to a Montreal-area hospital. Lawler, who wrestled in a tag-team match earlier in the show, was stricken while calling the action in another match and was carried backstage at the Bell Centre.
Broadcast partner Michael Cole addressed the television audience and said that the situation is "serious," but that Lawler was breathing on his own.
"Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal," the WWE said in its statement. "We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family."
The fact medical personnel were at ringside allowed Lawler to receive immediate treatment, a source said. It's believed Lawler needed CPR before being placed in an ambulance.
Lawler, 62, is a "Raw" announcing mainstay and 40-year pro wrestling veteran who has continued to step into the ring on recent WWE shows. Lawler also has achieved mainstream acclaim for his connection with the late comedian Andy Kaufman during the 1980s, which was featured in the 1999 biopic "The Man in the Moon."

He still does indy shows (well, has done them recently) on a semi-regular basis. One of my all time favorites. Get well soon, King.

I saw that last night...after reading some coverage, how weird must that have been for Bret Hart. Here is a guy who was royally pissed with they way the then WWF handled Owen Hart's death, both when it happened and afterward. Then, after 15 years, he finally makes peace with the WWE and finds himself in the arena of the most infamous incident in wrestling history, in the last segment of a program that went on despite another wrestler/commentator nearly dying during the broadcast. Had to be surreal.

Remember the Spicolli/Zbysko death angle on Nitro? Spicolli died-really died-and Larry Z still bashed him seconds after his memorial video played. The most classless thing I ever saw on wrestling, moreso even than the Katie Vick angle.

I don't remember that. I'll have to see if I can find it on youtube or something. I remember Spicolli dieing, but not the Zbysko part

Yeah I don't remember that either. That's a shame, because I was always a fan of Zbyszko.

I thought this was handled well...all the EMT's were there to help Jerry...I'm sure he would have wanted the show to go on as well...I think if any one wanted to stop it they should have, but if they felt they could continue going, then why not

Couldn't find any actual video, but I found a message board breakdown of the Spicolli/Zbysko incident:

The two were feuding at the time of his death and the next Monday night they showed an "in memory of graphic" and then later on in the show Schiavone said something about "our thoughts and prayers are with his family etc" and then Zbysko said "I'd let you know how I felt about Spicolli but out of respect to his family I'll keep my mouth shut."

Ed Ferrara (under Vince Russo's direction) making fun of JR's bells palsy was a bit beyond the pale.

I guess WWE still getting mileage out of that softens the blow a little for me. That was when he was known as Oklahoma, right?

I also recall the King calling Goldust a "faggot". Thought that was a bit much, too.

Larry Z pouted his way through the whole Spiccoli angle, I seem to remember Louie stealing his golf clubs or something. I lost tons of respect for Larry after that, I loved when he cheated to retain his AWA belt and how he always bashed Bruno Sammartino whenever given the chance.
