Do not tell me the reason Pryor hasn't started since his first year in theleague is because he was not given keys to the franchise. Cam did not do terrible when he played his rookie year like Pryor did. Be realistic.

I'm using college as an example of Terrelle's intelligence. You don't unseat Todd Boeckman, All-Conference senior QB and a first round projected pick by Mel Kiper, if you're stupid and slow. Pryor's intelligence on the field has never been a major question. His mechanics, touch on short throws, and general attitude were.

The Panthers took Cam with the #1 pick after tanking the season for Andrew Luck. They needed a QB and took the next best QB in the draft. The idea all along was to bring in a rookie starter. And Cam succeeded because Rob Chudzinski is really smart and created an offense around Newton that allowed him to play in a similar way to Auburn. Tons of read-option principles and 1 read throws. I'm not surprised Cam struggled a lot last year as the NFL adjusted to him. If Pryor has really fixed his throwing, and it looks like he has, I think his ceiling is above Newton. Arm strength is a wash, Pryor is faster and shiftier, and Pryor had 3 years of playing in an NFL system. It will definitely be interesting to see how Newton looks in Mike Shula's offense and how much read-option they continue to use.

Pryor entered the NFL through the supplemental draft with a major suspension hanging over his head. He was also selected by a team that had just given up multiple first round picks and a boatload of cash for Carson Palmer. The Raiders had no intention of making Pryor a starter. Pryor entered the league with a firestorm around him. He missed rookie mini-camp, didn't play in the pre-season, and then missed the first 5 games serving the suspension. He was seen as toxic by a lot of franchises. Hindsight would probably tell us that entire situation was blown insanely out of proportion, but that is ESPN mud-raking at its finest.

Had Pryor entered the NFL after shredding college football for his fourth year, he gets taken in the first round by a team in need of a QB. Especially after the season Cam put up as a rookie, proving those types of QB's can be successful.

Once again, your assumptions are idiotic.

OAKLAND -- What seemed to be the inevitable ascension of Matt Flynn as the Raiders starting quarterback is now an open question.

Terrelle Pryor thrust himself into the conversation Friday night by bringing the Raiders back from the dead in a 34-26 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears at O.co Coliseum.

Pryor scored on a 25-yard scramble and hit a clutch 19-yard touchdown pass to sixth-round draft pick Nick Kasa as the Raiders rebounded from a 27-3 halftime deficit to get within 27-20 after three quarters.

By the time Matt McGloin took over in the fourth quarter, Pryor had given coach Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olson something to think about, as much by Flynn's struggles as by Pryor's playmaking ability.

Asked afterward if he would consider Pryor as the potential Week 1 starting quarterback, Allen said, "I think we'll have to take a look at it. I don't think Matt played well. Terrelle came in and gave us a spark. I'm not going to make any decisions tonight."

OAKLAND -- It's a distraction the Raiders don't want, but maybe they could use a full-fledged Matt Flynn-Terrelle Pryor quarterback controversy right about now.

Just to distract attention from what they really are, basically, and how tough this season is almost certainly going to be.

And possibly to distract themselves from those inevitable conclusions, too.

That's how badly the Raiders played for much of Friday night's 34-26 exhibition loss to the Chicago Bears at O.co Coliseum, that's how poorly every facet of the starting units performed.

That's how much better Pryor was than Flynn, too.

And that's the massive task facing coach Dennis Allen, who has his hands full and now has to do some hard thinking about his quarterback situation, too.

Pryor vs. Flynn? That's better than fixating on the Raiders' team vs. Anybody Else right now.

"I think obviously we've got to look at it," Allen said after the game when asked directly if Pryor has possibly moved ahead of Flynn. "I don't think Matt played well in this game. Obviously I felt Terrelle came in, gave us a spark and played well.

"I think that's something we've got to go and look at. I'm not going to make any decisions on anything, obviously, tonight ... but it's obvious Terrelle gave us a little bit of a spark."

Couple of things.
Some say TP isn't "coachable". Well, he got better every year at OSU. He hasn't hit a "ceiling" yet!
Every single time he was challenged he rose to the occasion with a great performance.
His throwing motion keeps getting improved so there is no reason to believe he can't become a starter in the NFL.
He was an entitled, immature kid while at OSU but given time kids grow up.

Either way, the Raiders are going to suck. I'm a Raider fan so yes, they really do suck. Suck for Clowney in '14.

I would think Flynn would want to be benched, just to save him from the beatings. With Veldheer out for a while, the left tackle is garbage, Flynn
has no way to escape trouble other than getting hit.

While I won't go all emo over Pryor's performances so far, he has appeared
to be working a lot on his game the last two years. He did have some very good throws last night. Just watching him run when the pocket breaks down
take you back to his days here.

At this point, Dennis Allen really has no choice but to hand the reins over
to Pryor. For the first time as a pro, he looks like he may be able to become
an NFL qb.

Yeah, the Raiders are going to be awful this year regardless of who is under center. Might as well see what TP can do. At the very least, he'll make you more interesting. Flynn is a placeholder. At least TP has the potential to be your future starting QB. Starting Flynn is coaching to lose your job, and we all know how the Raiders go through coaches.

Im still not sold on Pryor...I see little improvement in his throwing and his receivers blow...when he got in he was up against the bears 2nd and 3rd units....he will be running 70% of the time because the OL for the raiders might be the worst in the league..so by default he should be the starting QB since Flynn runs worse then bernie kosar....either way he is so emo there is no need to copy and paste

"What I want to look at is who gives us the best chance to move the ball down the field and score points," Allen said. "Obviously I'm not going to look at one night and base any type of decision on one night. I'll go back and I'll look at it and we'll see where we go from here."
Flynn was expected to start for the Seattle Seahawks last season but his lost his job to rookie Russell Wilson during training camp. The Raiders acquired Flynn from the Seahawks for draft picks in April.
Pryor, entering his third season with the Raiders, made his only career start in last year's finale against the San Diego Chargers.

I hopeTP gets a shot. I like the kid in spite of some selfish moves. I know that my own selfish moves in college were far greater than his and I didn't have folks constantly trying to encourage me like TP did.

At least if he gets a shot for 6-12 games we'll know something. I wouldn't be surprised if he if succeeded nor would I be surprised if he did not. In spite of some physical similarities to Newton, he's really not the same type of QB. Newton still has the better motion and release and also is a different style of runner. TP has grown as a passer and I hope that continues. As a runner, he actually reminds one of Franco Harris as the sidelines are often his friend. ...maybe that's not a bad thing in a QB though...

After watching Matt Flynn's low lights, I'm completely sold on TP as a starter. I think he needs some experience and what better way than to get thrown to the wolves on a crappy team, with a crappy O line, mediocre (at best) receiving corp and no defense? I'm a huge Bengals fan but the Raiders remind me of when Jeff Blake used to carry the team. Jeff would take the ball, run like hell and try to make something happen. This is pretty much what TP will have to do. A traditional, drop back, pocket passer will get murdered on the Raiders right now with that weak ass O line. I think TP is the right guy for the job. The good news for TP is that no-one is watching the Raiders and no-one is expecting much. If he fails, it's expected, but if he makes a few plays in the process - perhaps when the Raiders clean house, he'll get a shot on a half decent team. However, if he even wins a handful of games, he will have exceeded expectations and maybe earn the job and hopefully the Raiders build a team around him.

The Terrelle Pryor bandwagon could be filling up in the coming days.

Pryor will start in the Oakland Raiders' preseason finale Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks after taking first-team reps during Sunday's practice, according to CSN Bay Area.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said after practice that the team plans to rest Matt Flynn with a sore arm, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It's probably more of a precautionary measure on my part than it is anything else," Allen said Sunday.

One year ago almost to the week, as Russell Wilson was passing him on the depth chart in Seattle, Flynn was revealed to have an elbow injury. The tendinitis Flynn suffered in Seattle still is bugging him, Allen said, per the Chronicle. The veteran quarterback is experiencing the most tragic déjà vu in football history.

Allen hinted a change might happen after Flynn's dreadful performance preceded Pryor's entertaining, albeit uneven, play in Friday's preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. Flynn's injury becomes a convenient excuse to see more of Pryor.

Pryor still is very raw, and his feet and throwing mechanics are average to poor. But as he displayed Friday, behind the Raiders' offensive line, his elusiveness gives Oakland the best chance to succeed.

"When you have guys who have athletic talent like he does and they work as hard as he has, guys are going to get better, and he's improved," Allen said of Pryor. "It'll be a good thing to see him in another game situation against a really good defense on the road in that environment and see how he responds."
