WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

I think the fact that Coach Tressel and Coach Matta went to this kids game with their respective entourages together is saying something huge. He will share starting QB responsibilities and take the team solo soon if not immediately.

Just my opinion and how I interpret what is developing.

I have also been wondering how/when we're going to use him. I'm just not sure that he'll be able to start in front of Schoenhoft in the '09 season. Robbie will still have another couple years of experience under his belt (red-shirt senior) and I think it will be hard to start a true soph over Robbie. No one doubts Schoenhoft's physical talents, he just needs to mentally put it together which I hope he will be able to do over this season and next. However, seeing as how Robbie and Tyrelle should be totally different types of QBs, maybe we'll see a QB rotation with Tyrelle earning more playing time as the season progresses.

From what I understand, RS's development has been a bit less than remarkable.

Let's not get overly excited. TP will have a huge learning curve coming into the college game. Athletically, it appears he can be successful, however, he's an 18 year old kid that will be adjusting to college life and actually reading defenses properly for what may be the first time. That's a big deal.

I have seen all the clips that were available to me. He is a great talent and has many skills. I just think Henton will compete for the job. Will not just lie down and give it away. Henton has some impressive clips of his own in high school. Pryor also needs a a little polish to his passing game. I would be very happy if we got him though.

Are you saying this having seen Pryor's clips? If not, watch some of them and your opinion may change. Henton is still early in his development, and Pryor has far superior physical tools right now. That isn't to bash Henton in any way -- it's just to say that Pryor is that excellent. It's like how Chris Wells came in and was the immediate heir apparent to Pittman.

Take a step back. First of all, it's far easier for a RB to come in and do well like Beanie did last year than it is for a QB so don't make that comparison, please. Secondly, Henton may not be a human highlight reel but neither is Boeckman. It's going to come down to who is more prepared and I'd bet on that person being Henton.

Edit- I have to chuckle at this "What's next?" mindset we all seem to have. Wasn't it just this past off-season that people were clamoring for Henton to start because he was a Troy Smith clone?

As of right now, I have no doubt that Boeckman should be our starter (and its not even close). However, I would hope that over the next 18 months Robbie would be able to mature into the QB we all hope he can be. A year and a half is a lot of time. But at the same time, I agree with what you're saying about slow development. To be honest, some of the stuff I saw from him in the spring game this past spring looks very similar to what he would do his senior year in high school (primarily talking about trying to force passes where no one is open).

the psu folks are saying that he didn't come to the game because he was secretly going to see tennessee and south carolina, and didn't want to take flack about it from osu folks on his visit the next week.

how much of that is truth, versus what is simply delusional rationalization from a fanbase mired in mediocrity while all the top in-state talent goes elsewhere remains to be seen.

He will spend his time learning the system at practices and playing basketball for Thad (Final Four). Redshirt in football.

2009

In his 2nd year, Terrelle will compete for the starting job with Antonio Henton, Rob Schoenhoft, and Joe Bauserman. Schoenhoft wins out, with knowledge of the system, great poise, maturity, and ability (Like Boeckman). Terrelle may be used on the field in other ways, such as a Slash-type player. When the ball is in his hands, he does stuff. Leads Ohio State to another Final Four in basketball.

2010

In his 3rd year, huge competition between Senior Henton, Sophomore Pryor, and Sophomore Bauserman. Pryor wins out, because he will have great knowledge of the system, superior ability, and great leadership skills from basketball. Pryor plays like Pryor on the football field, and moves to basketball in mid-January (That team won't lose a beat without Pryor, with Trae Golden, Jared Sullinger, and Cameron Wright already recruited in 2010 class). For the record, in 2007-2008, Ohio State plays 15 games 1/15 and on, obviously excluding Big Ten Tournament and March Madness. As for success in football, well, we are Ohio State. You can guess.

2011

Heisman Trophy. Sets single season records. Another great Ohio State season. Declares eligibility for NFL Draft. Plays basketball again through January to the end of the March Madness. Does not attend the combine, and instead gets his workouts done after basketball is finished. First round draft pick in football and basketball.

2012

Bauserman starts, as a 5th year senior, with 4 years of knowledge in the system.

That is how his career will go at Ohio State. The way I see it, we are fair to every player on the squad at Ohio State (To be honest, this is how I see each player developing, period. Schoenhoft will be ready to start in his 5th year at tOSU, and he will have earned it. Never been impressed with Henton), and Pryor showcases his ability in both football and basketball.

This is what worries me. A lot of Buckeye fans are expecting Terrelle to play for the Buckeyes. I think we need to be weary that these expectations don't end up being our downfall.

Our downfall? We have no control over his decision. Many of us think he'll be a Buck. If not, so be it. No need to fret over it.

Schoenhoft will never start for Ohio State. Unless Boeckman got hurt this year. He just doesn't have what it takes.

Wow.

If Pryor would have been a freshman in '06 he would have had "superior physical tools" than Troy but you really think Troy wouldn't have started?

I wonder how last's night destruction of PSU affects Pryor.

If he saw the complete inability of PSU to develop QBs it can only be good.

As far as when and where Pryor might play - and not that such a discussion isn't getting way ahead of itself - but if there are doubts he can pass Henton and Schoenhoft on the depth chart why are people talking as though he is the cornerstone to this class?

Based on what body of work? Two spring games and maybe a few quarters of mop-up duty? You can easily getting away with saying things like "I'd have liked him to progress more by this time" but to say "He just doesn't have what it takes," based on a very limited opportunity to even see what he has is in my opinion unfair.
