WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Former OSU star Ginn playing a big role for Dolphins

BEREA Quinn and Ginn on the same field? Probably not.

While the Dolphins will face the Browns Sunday with Cleveland native Ted Ginn Jr. playing a big role, the Browns are unlikely to use fellow rookie Brady Quinn.

In Miami?s 22-19 loss at Houston Sunday, Ginn caught a 36-yard pass and returned five kickoffs for 176 yards.

Quinn is still waiting to get in an NFL game.

Ginn found himself in the middle of the biggest story of this year?s draft when, with everyone expecting Miami to pick Quinn at No. 9 overall, the Dolphins picked the Ohio State speedball, Ginn.

Green isnt the sole reason for the 0-5 start. The O line was completely revamped and has been unstable, the d-line and LB corps are old and injured, the DB's are outgunned with no pressure on the opposing QB, the new coaches brought new strategies which probably havent been fully implemented, and Cam Cameron has been playing rotatarunningback with Chatman and Brown until recently. Not to mention the fact that Miami traded away Welker (who is having great success in NE) and Sammy Morris (ditto). Miami is a team that hasnt been able to find an answer since before Marino left.

As for comparing Ginn to his classmates of 07, besides Bowe (who had a decent game against the worst secondary in the NFL and two good games against teams struggling with new defensive coaches) all rookie receivers with impressive starts, have had pass happy QBs passing the ball to them.

James Jones - Favre
Gonzalez - Manning
Calvin Johnson - Kitna

Reading comprehension? Major does not equal Sole.

In a previous post I attributed the defense as the major catalyst to being 0-5.

My point was that Lemon and Beck arent in a position to win any of those games. Green's track record alone meant he deserved the opportunity.

Former Ohio State star Ted Ginn Jr. faces a slow start to NFL career

Former OSU star still seeking a breakthrough moment in rookie season
Wednesday, October 10, 2007Bill Lubinger
Plain Dealer Reporter
Ted Ginn Sr., coach and converter of boys to men, slid a hand into his suit coat and pulled out a coat of arms for his new high school.
The red and black crest for the Ginn Academy, a boys' school on the gritty eastern edge of downtown Cleveland, is one hand gripping another. Behind them is an opened book. Above them, the tiny aqua outline of a dolphin.
Hands to encourage lifting each other up. The book represents studies. A dolphin?

Ginn Jr. misses snow, but not draft debate

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Thursday, October 11, 2007

BEREA ? He hasn't been gone that long, but he already misses Ohio.
"I was there for 22 years," Ted Ginn Jr. said Wednesday on a conference call. "I've been seeing snow every year. A lot of people don't like it, but I like it."
Ginn, a Cleveland native who starred at Ohio State, is a receiver/kick returner with the winless Miami Dolphins, who play the Browns on Sunday in Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Dolphins drafted him No. 9 overall in April, passing up quarterback Brady Quinn, who fell to the Browns.
So far, Ginn's impact has been minimal. He's caught two passes for 51 yards, but he's averaging 25.3 yards on 20 kickoff returns with a long of 52 yards last week. He's yet to break any of his nine punt returns for big yardage.

Rookies don't get it Quinn, Ginn ready to move past draft picks if people would let them
By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter

BEREA: Quinn and Ginn. Their names might be forever linked, and neither Brady Quinn nor Ted Ginn Jr. really understands why.
Both have moved past April 28, when the Miami Dolphins drafted Ohio State's speedy receiver and kick returner Ginn with the ninth pick of the first round over Quinn, the Notre Dame quarterback projected by some to go in the top three.

Ted Ginn Jr., left, is the Dolphins' primary kickoff and punt returner, but he has just two receptions for 51 yards.

BEREA, Ohio -- Miami Dolphins rookie receiver Ted Ginn Jr. doesn't want to talk about his team passing on Brady Quinn with the ninth pick of the NFL draft. "Brady Quinn and Ted Ginn, that situation should be over with," said Ginn, a former Ohio State player. "We're both with our teams and trying to make our teams the best. I really stay away from if Brady Quinn was here or if I was there."

Dolphins' Ginn plans to treat homecoming game like any other

Despite playing in his hometown, Ted Ginn Jr. said he plans to `go out and play like a regular game.'

Dolphins rookie Ted Ginn Jr. returns a kick against Washington in the season opener.

Dolphins rookie and Cleveland native Ted Ginn Jr. is not many things that you might expect going into this weekend's homecoming game, NFL style.
Not frustrated over having only two catches. Not frustrated over not breaking off the electrifying touchdown punt or kickoff return that Dolphins coach Cam Cameron talked about when the Dolphins drafted him. Not sure how much time he'll spend at his parents' home once the Dolphins hit town Saturday. Not homesick or feeling as if the past few months have been his introduction to life on his own after 22 years in Ohio.
Not even indulging in the natural increased anticipation of this game more than any other on the Dolphins schedule.
''I haven't pinpointed anything,'' Ginn said. ``I'm going to go out and play like a regular game.''

Dolphins put to use Ginn's rare talent
Browns' special teams hope to contain kick returns
Published on Sunday, Oct 14, 2007

Terry Robiskie, a former Browns assistant and interim coach, now handles Dolphins receivers and is pleased with Ginn's progress.

''We didn't draft Ted like the Colts drafted (Anthony Gonzalez), to be their third guy, to play in the slot and catch 35, 40, 50 balls,'' Robiskie said. ''Ted wasn't drafted to be a starter. He was drafted to help in the kick-return game, on third down and to learn the game.

''We didn't want him to come be the show. We were hoping we'd have a show, and he'd be part of the show.''

Ginn doesn't seem bothered that he hasn't played a big part yet.

''Right now, I'm just trying to learn everything,'' Ginn said on a conference call. ''I want to be comfortable to go out and make plays; I don't want to have to think about that stuff. People may say we're five weeks into the season, and I should be there already, but it's not like that. You have to take your time.

''At Ohio State, I really didn't get started until the sixth week or the seventh week into the season. Now I'm just back on that same boat. Good things will happen.''

Dolphins rookie Ginn returning home to face Browns

Dolphins wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie, whose son Brian had to wait behind Ginn at Ohio State before blossoming, also senses a breakthrough.

"He's running and playing faster every game. When he goes in the game you see on the other sidelines defensive coordinators and defensive back coaches start raising their hands up," Robiskie said. "All of a sudden they change to a cover-2 [to prevent the deep ball] and without that safety in the box that helps Ronnie Brown light it up."

Ho Hum. Teddy gets a big 55 yard kick return in the first half. Penalty. Holding.

The second half kickoff? Teddy houses it in his return to Cleveland....oh, wait. Another freaking penalty. This one, holding after Teddy was already through the hole closing on a defenseless kicker.

Ridiculous start to a career for Teddy. He's not even getting looks on offense right now which is a crime considering he's the only real deep threat Miami has. Keep plugging Teddy, your time will come.
