WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

With the Ninth pick in the MVN Mock Draft the Dolphins Select: Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio St.

There are a myriad of directions the Dolphins can go here. Amobi Okoye, Leon Hall, Darrell Revis and Alan Branch come to mind. But as many needs as there are on the defensive side of the ball, and as many talented defensive prospects as there are, what the Miami Dolphins need most of are offensive weapons. And Ted Ginn Jr. is arguably the most explosive offensive playmaker in this year’s draft class.

His blazing speed, quickness off the line and acceleration in the open field is extraordinary. Every time Ginn touches the ball, he is a threat to take it the distance, as he proved in the BCS National Championship game when he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. His career at Ohio State was exceptional. This past season, Ginn was an integral part of QB Troy Smith’s Heisman winning season, catching 59 passes for 781 yards and 9 TDs. He also made a huge impact on the Buckeye’s special teams, averaging 10 yards per punt return and 29.6 yards per kick return.

I'd love to see Teddy go high in the draft, but I'd probably wet myself if he slips to 19 to the Titans. He's a perfect fit in their system. However, the Titans could easily go with the hometown wideout, Robert Meachem. Who knows? This draft has a vast amount of potential and it'll be really enticing to see where all of the players end up.

I'd think we'd all like to see him go high. Slipping to 19 is pretty far for where all the mocks have him going.

Ginn could be a game (plan) breaker

It's a pretty sure thing the Bengals will use their top draft pick Saturday for help on defense, where the team is weaker, right?
Not necessarily, if Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. is available.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was one of a handful of NFL coaches, including Miami's Cam Cameron, to attend Ginn's workout in Columbus earlier this month.

Lewis has eye on OSU's Ginn
By Kevin Goheen
Post staff reporter

NFL teams can keep secrets as well as any organizations this side of the CIA, especially when it comes to their plans for the league's annual draft.
So it didn't come as any surprise that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis yielded little insight into what the Bengals are going to do with their first pick of the draft or any other pick they have in the two-day, seven-round event to be held this weekend. Lewis entered his pre-draft press conference at Paul Brown Stadium on Tuesday with a few notes jotted down for him to remember, including telling the gathered media that the first pick would not be a quarterback.
Lewis executed his game plan.

Reese thinks Titans will draft WR Ginn

For the past 13 years, Floyd Reese ran the draft for the Titans.
Two days before this year's draft, he's on the outside looking in as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
The former Titans general manager said he wanted to surround quarterback Vince Young with talent, and he believes Ohio State receiver Ted Ginn Jr. could be Tennessee's first round pick at 19th overall.
"My plan was ? not that anybody cared ? we were going to try and get Vince some weapons," Reese said Wednesday. "We were going to be sure we had quality tight ends and we wanted to add at receiver.''
Reese said the hope was to "somehow be able to keep" running back Travis Henry and let second-year pro LenDale White continue to mature.
"Now that has kind of all changed," Reese said.
Henry is no longer a Titan, and neither are wide receivers Drew Bennett and Bobby Wade.
"I would think that Ginn or somebody like that would be a possibility," Reese said. "If one of the running backs were to slip, maybe the kid from Cal (Marshawn Lynch), he would have to be a possibility, too.''
Reese likes Ginn's speed and return-game skills. He compared Ginn's playmaking abilities to those of Chicago's Devin Hester and Tennessee's Pacman Jones.

Go for broke, Panthers, and draft Ginn

By Ed Hardin

CHARLOTTE -- Let's assume for a second that the Carolina Panthers are in deep trouble. Let's assume that the stated strategy is a disaster in the making. Let's assume they have one more shot at getting this right before it all comes tumbling down.

For the first round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, Carolina has the 14th pick, a slot with which the Panthers are somewhat familiar. This will be the third time in 10 seasons Carolina has had the 14th pick. The previous two were spent on Thomas Davis and Jason Peter.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

It's only natural for a father to look at his eighth-grade son and think great things about his future. So it was when Ted Ginn Sr. looked at Ted Ginn Jr. in that formative school year in Cleveland.

Ginn taking hands-on approach

Ohio State star hopes production stands out

By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff | April 27, 2007
From September to January, Ted Ginn Jr. solidified his status as one of the top playmakers in the 2007 NFL draft, capping it with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the BCS championship game.
As the Ohio State junior zipped down the field at that high-stakes moment, it was another reminder of his dazzling ability and breathtaking speed.
Yet when Ginn injured his left ankle in the ensuing celebration, missed the remainder of the game, and had his preparations for the draft significantly altered, he suddenly found himself placed into a different category. He's now a wild card.
