WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Super Bowl notes: Holmes had no desire to watch

MIAMI ? A year ago, Santonio Holmes got his hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Watching someone else take a turn with the NFL's shiny silver chalice this season is a difficult reality for the Pittsburgh Steelers' standout wide receiver.

As such, here was the former Buckeye's Super Bowl pick:

He wanted both the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints ... to lose.

"I kind of wish both teams would lose so that we could still be the Super Bowl champions, but we know that's not going to happen," Holmes said. "But it's great to see someone else get an opportunity for the biggest game on the biggest stage to help solidify a place in their career, in their history."

Holmes was in South Florida for part of Super Bowl week, attending some Reebok events and mingling with other NFL players. But by game time Sunday, he was long gone, saying he wanted to only watch on television instead.

"I am not playing," Holmes said, "so I will not be there in attendance."

For his actual pick, Holmes was noncommittal.

"I've got friends on both teams," Holmes said.

That still didn't mean he wanted any of those friends taking over for the Steelers as Super Bowl champions.

Holmes said he still gets back to Belle Glade three or four times a year
and finds it hard to leave on those occasions.

?It?s always good to go back, but when I do I tend to stay longer than what I expected. That?s why I don?t go that often ? I?m thinking I?m going down for a day, but then I stay because I want to see my whole family, talk to some of my childhood friends.?

Steelers' Holmes accused of attack in Florida nightclub

Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes is accused of injuring a woman at a Florida nightclub, according to Courthouse News Service.

The legal news wire reported today that Holmes threw a glass filled with booze into a woman's face, cutting her near the eye. The report states that the nightclub removed Anshonoe Mills from the premises after the altercation and that Orlando police refused to take a report.

Details of the alleged incident are included in a civil lawsuit Mills filed last week in Florida against Holmes and J.J. Whispers Group Inc. She claims the attack happened March 7 at the Rain Night Club in Orlando.

Mills contends Holmes attacked her because he wanted a place on a couch.

The complaint states: "When confronted with the possibility of incarceration, defendant asked to speak with the plaintiff. He proceeded to inform the plaintiff that he was an NFL football player and that he could not face criminal charges. Subsequently, defendant offered to give the plaintiff money because he was an NFL star and could not get into trouble."

Mills is seeking damages for assault and battery and emotional distress.

"We're not really making comments in-depth about the matter at this time," said Mills' lawyer, Jacques Cooper, an Orlando lawyer who told the Tribune-Review that Holmes has been served with the lawsuit. "We're still looking into the matter and are waiting to hear from Mr. Holmes' people."

Holmes on lawsuit: 'I didn't do anything'

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Florida woman is suing Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes, saying the one-time Super Bowl MVP hit her in the face with a glass at an Orlando nightclub and then offered to pay her so she wouldn't press charges.

Holmes, who has not been charged in connection with the alleged incident, says he "didn't do anything" and expects the matter to be dealt with quickly.

Anshonoe Mills claimed in a lawsuit filed Wednesday that Holmes grabbed her face and threw the glass at her because she was sitting on a couch in the Rain Night Club's VIP section on March 7.

The lawsuit, first reported by Courthouse News Service, a legal wire service, said the glass hit Mills on the right side of the face, cutting the woman near the eye. The four-page document also claimed Holmes and a police officer intimidated Mills so she wouldn't press charges.

Holmes offered to pay Mills because he was an NFL star and couldn't afford to get into trouble, the lawsuit said. The woman felt pressured and incoherently told police that she was hit in the face and was bleeding but wouldn't press charges, according to the lawsuit.

Mills is seeking more than $15,000 in damages from Holmes, who was MVP of the Super Bowl played after the 2008 season.

Holmes, a former Super Bowl MVP, told ESPN's Rachel Nichols he has confidence that this matter "will be taken care of quickly, within the next 24 hours." When asked about the specifics of the case, he said "I really don't have much to say about it because I didn't do anything. My lawyer is handling it from here."

I've got two thoughts here:

  1. If the bitch was bloody, Santonio was...well guilty. Lacking that, it's who the fuck knows. Take a learnin' from your disfunctional teammate, and don't put yourself in that position....dumbass.
  2. The reporter looks like a refugee from the S.S. Stabbin. Glad she was able to make it ashore.

Holmes criminal case closed after police report released
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 30, 2010

PFT has received a copy of the incident report from the Orlando Police Department related to Santonio Holmes' alleged battery on March 7.

The police say the case is now closed due to the victim's declination to prosecute Holmes at the time of the incident. Anshoenoe Mills is suing Holmes in a civil case.

One aspect of the report stands out. After Holmes and Mills told their conflicting stories to the police, the police advised them charges would be filed against Holmes.

"She then asked this officer if she could speak to Holmes alone," the police report reads. "I said yes and Holmes agreed to speak with her. They then walked several feet away from me and had a conversation."

"This officer observed Mills smiling and rubbing Holmes face just moments after walking off together," the report continued. "Five minutes later the two returned and Mills advised this officer that they had resolved the matter and that she did not wish to press charges or get Holmes into any trouble. Mills had a small abrasion that was less than 1/4' [''} over her right eye. She refused medical attention. Mills wrote a sworn written statement in which she declined to prosecute."
