WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Remember before the draft when all the chuckleheads at ESPN were saying Chad Jackson was clearly the best receiver in the draft? Some of them were even saying Sinorice Moss was better than Holmes. How does that crow taste, fellas?
You mean the same Chad Jackson that just got cut by the Patriots today? :wink2:

Steelers' Holmes aims for his first 1,000-yard season

LATROBE, Pa.--The NFL leader in yards per catch last season was not New England Patriots receiver Randy Moss.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' reception yards and touchdown leader wasn't Hines Ward.

To the surprise of many, the owner of these three accolades is Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes, who quietly has developed into one of the most feared deep threats and respected young receivers in the NFL.

Coming off a 52-catch, 942-yard season in 2007, Holmes is just scratching the surface of his potential. That is why Holmes is ESPN.com's pick as the breakout player in the AFC North for the 2008 season.

Notebook: Holmes hopes to play 16 games
By Mike Prisuta
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, September 6, 2008

Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has one significant number in mind entering his third NFL season -- 16. "I'm pretty sure my stats are going to take care of themselves if I get an opportunity to play 16 games," Holmes said. Holmes played 13 games in 2007 around ankle and hamstring injuries and had 945 receiving yards, eight receiving TDs and an NFL-best average of 18.2 yards per catch. Entering his second season as a starter, Holmes appears poised for a breakthrough campaign if he stays healthy. He doesn't talk much about how that might translate specifically onto the stat sheet, but he's thought about it with regard to his developing relationship with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "His expectations for himself are probably higher than anybody else's," Holmes said. "I don't want to add any burden to what he's thinking. I just hope that we communicate and connect maybe, at least 15, 20 times on touchdowns."

Steeler receivers Santonio Holmes and Hine Ward

Santonio Holmes has added 11 pounds, thickened his shoulders and forearms and strengthened his upper body, all to stay healthy for a 16-game season and tolerate the bumps and bruises he incurs in the NFL.

It's not because he's carrying the pride of the Ohio State University on his back.

It just seems that way every time he plays a game in Ohio.

"Not many guys get the opportunity to go back where they played college ball or where they played high school and have family and friends around," Holmes said. "They get a chance to see what you can do and what you did for those guys when you were playing there."

Holmes has certainly done that.

Maybe it's the juice he gets when he hears "Hang on Sloopy," the official rock song of the state of Ohio, being blared at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Holmes gets so animated when they play the song, his teammates tease him because he thinks he's back at Ohio State, where he was a three-year starter.

"They think I'm cheering for the Cleveland Browns," Holmes said.

Santonio Holmes caught five passes for 94 yards and rushed one time for 10 yards in Week 2.
Despite the wind limiting the down field passing attack, Holmes bounced back from a disappointing opener to lead the Steelers in yards, including a leaping 48-yard catch in the second half. Finding the end zone once in a while would be nice, but Holmes is a solid WR2 option. Sep. 14 - 11:50 pm et

Santonio Holmes, developing ways to help the youth in his hometown

Santonio Holmes slipped into his sweats after practice yesterday, the final one before the Steelers' much-coveted off week, and said he would be trying to make it home on the weekend. Just not all the way home.

Holmes heard about Pooh Griffith last week, because news out of Belle Glade, Fla., travels at the same rate as many of its scores of gifted footballers, most all of them quicker and more elusive than a hot Florida breeze.
Pooh Griffith is dead, the seventh kid shot in the ever-desperate tension along the southeast rim of Lake Okeechobee, the second to die in the perpetuating cycle of violence that is backdrop to the football rivalry between Glades Central High of Belle Glade and Pahokee High, just eight miles farther north in the muck of Palm Beach County's inland sugar cane fields.
"I'm glad my kids don't live there anymore," Holmes said. "My mom moved away now too, so there's not much point in me spending a lot of time in Belle Glade."
Holmes rejects the notion, advanced in the week after Griffith's bullet-riddled body was pulled out of a car leaving a school dance, that the Pahokee-Glades Central football rivalry exacerbates the madness.

Steelers' Holmes arrested on drug chargers

Friday, October 24, 2008
By Sadie Gurman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes was arrested yesterday afternoon and will face marijuana possession charges, according to Night Court.

Holmes, the Steelers' first-round pick in the 2006 draft, was arrested yesterday afternoon by Pittsburgh police, and will receive a court summons charging him with possession of a small amount of the drug.

The details of his arrest were not immediately available.

In June 2006, Holmes was arrested in Ohio on domestic violence charges, which were later dismissed. The charges stemmed from an incident involving LaShae Boone of Columbus, the mother of one of his three children. The charges were dismissed after the judge in the case was assured by Holmes' lawyers that their client was participating in ongoing counseling offered through the NFL.

Holmes was also arrested in South Beach, Fla., for disorderly conduct during a Memorial Day weekend crackdown by local authorities in 2006.
