Holmes will return against Washington

By F. Dale Lolley, Staff writer [email protected]
PITTSBURGH - Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said wide receiver Santonio Holmes has paid his penance to the team for being cited for marijuana possession last week and will be in the lineup Monday against Washington.
Tomlin said Holmes, who was inactive for Pittsburgh's 21-14 loss Sunday to the New York Giants, not only met with him on Monday, he also addressed teammates and apologized for his actions.

"We've laid it to bed," Tomlin said. "Satisfactory action has taken place from our standpoint."
Holmes was pulled over Thursday by Pittsburgh police and found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Tomlin decided to place Holmes on the inactive list for Sunday's game.
Under terms of the NFL Players Association agreement with the league, teams are not permitted to suspend players for arrests. That action is up to the league, which waits until there is a conviction.

Tomlin defended his decision.

Holmes takes a licking, but gets offense ticking

Friday, November 21, 2008
By Gene Collier, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Santonio Holmes wasn't having a terribly memorable season anyway, but after last night's meeting with Cincinnati's Chris Crocker on a snowy North Side lawn, you had to wonder if he'd remember any of it.
Crocker rammed into Holmes 20 yards from the goal line at Heinz Field's open end, using the exact technique the National Football League swears it detests, full speed helmet-to-helmet, with evident malice. Though he didn't launch himself, which was the only reason Holmes was able to leave the field in any kind wobbly vertical attitude, Crocker should be scolded, fined and made to watch a continuous loop of the Bengals offense until he weeps.
Asked about the hit on his valuable deep threat, Mike Tomlin said, "I'm not going to get into anything on the officiating."

PITTSBURGH - Unlike some Steelers' opponents who have targeted wide receiver Hines Ward after getting leveled by legal plays, Santonio Holmes has no ill feelings toward Chris Crocker of Cincinnati. Crocker knocked Holmes out of the Steelers' 27-10 win over the Bengals in the third quarter of last Thursday's game. The vicious hit came after Holmes caught a short slant pass.
I just think the guy was reading the quarterback's eyes and he knew that we were running that play quite a few times," said Holmes, who suffered the first concussion of his career and had to be helped from the field. "He was at the right place at the right time."

Started off with 2 fumbles yesterday, but when they went to him for the win he came through.

After watching some of the highlights I do agree with the correction of the call on the field. When it is initially caught by Santonio it does break the line of the endzone. TD- Santonio =D

Looked like it broke the plane to me as well. I wonder why the NFL doesn't figure out how to put a camera on each side of the end zone line to make these calls more clear cut though. Sometimes the bad camera angles make it about impossible to tell. I was actually kind of surprised that they overturned the Santonio play as close as it looked. But kudos to our former Buckeye. Great job by Ben though as well to buy the time and find him.

While I was happy at the end of the game... Let's just say this, if I put down the things I said after that drop and then the fumble, I probably would have gotten a 14 break... Damn German temper flairing up... In the end he came through, but Santonio needs to concentrate more on ball security and catching a bit more.

I agree for sure, the ball security thing seems to be an issue with him.
He did save the day though, but Santonio hang on to that ball!!!!!:wink2:

Man, San Antonio had an amazing day today.

Took a punt back for a TD, and also had some field stretching catches. He's really turning into a top-flight WR.

Not that he's been average, but you come to expect San Antonio to make big plays throughout the game.

Santonio was freaking awesome today!
I was downtown at the Convention Center with my greyhound "Fast Willie Parker" for a meet n greet. He was a big hit,I had his steeler hat on,his Steeler collar I made & a Steeler fleece shirt & he was in the groove! People were taking pictures & just loved him.

If Ben puts the ball where it needs to be (twice), San Antonio has well over 100 yards (probably around 150), and maybe a couple TD receptions.

which is saying a lot in the first place, because Pitt isn't a passing offense.

The fact that San Antonio has created a consisent deep threat weapon, says a lot. He has eanred the trust of that coaching staff, to make big plays.

I remember the first time I saw him play at the Cal vs Fla high school all star game and had no idea we were recruiting him. I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "self, we need to start recruiting guys like that! I mean for christ sake they named a city in Texas after him, he's going to be a stud!!" Turns out I'm right a lot when I just talk amongst my many selves. :wink2:
