Friendly's Thomas set to choose
It's decision time for Fort Washington Friendly running back/wide receiver Lamaar Thomas.
As reported yesterday by TurtleSportsReport.com, Thomas is set to pick between Illinois, Maryland and Ohio State tomorrow. The announcement is scheduled to be televised on ESPNU during halftime of the Arkansas Pine-Bluff at Alabama A&M football game. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
I caught up with Friendly head coach George Earley yesterday. Here?s what he had to say about Thomas? recruitment.
It?s been reported that Maryland and Illinois like Thomas at running back, while Ohio State sees him at wide receiver. Does he have a preference to which position he?ll play in college?
?Illinois might use him at receiver also. I don?t know exactly where each of the coaches wants him. It just won?t be on defense.
?Lamaar has expressed that he just wants to get on the field. He?s going to play. That?s going to be big factor.?
What position do you think is best for Thomas at the collegiate level?
?We try to utilize him on every level and every position in what we?re doing right now. With his speed, I would use him at wideout myself because of his separation. And he has great hands. He knows what to do when he gets the ball. He?s just an asset to the whole program. I feel comfortable putting him anywhere. It?ll depend on what the school needs.?
Has there been a lot of local sentiment for Thomas to go to Maryland?
?Oh yeah. It?s more so about family here. His grandma would love to see him play. Family has a lot to do with him staying here. That?s why the decision is so difficult.?
What do you think the most important factor in Thomas? decision will be?
?I think a lot of it is how he was treated on his visit. He?s at a family oriented program now, and we?re all really close. He?s looking for a program with that type of surroundings. It?s about going to a program that knows him. If the people who he?s visited have treated him like family, then he?s going to lean toward that program.?
