WR Ray Small (official thread)

I personally like what Ray said. He didn't say anything bad about any Trojan specifically. Just said things are different there. I dont know if he actually said they are without Class, just that they go about doing things differently, and how an OSU player wouldn't be saying things like Carson and Lendale did in the media.

Either way, if its bulletin board material or not who cares. You think players need bulletin board material for this game?

Hopefully Ray shows up next week and can take one to the house, and instead of flipping into the endzone, doing cartwheels, and posing for the camera, he'll gladly hand the ball to the ref and jog to the sideline and give ol' Tress a High Five.

BN$--Late Small Punt Return One Sign Of Bigger Things To Come

Ray discusses his big return and stepping up his game this year due to the talent coming into Columbus. He says he received JT's wakeup call loud and clear.

Good read....It's a sign of good things to come for sure. It's also great to see and hear Ray say that he wasn't doing things that was worthy, and he has corrected them. This guy has some big things to come in S&G for the next 2 years

Ray Small's big words: You don't expect to get much trash talk from a Jim Tressel team, but Ohio State's dangerous wideout certainly got folks' attention out here in L.A. when he discussed a "class" difference between OSU and USC. "Here at Ohio State, they teach you to be a better man," Small said. "There, it's just all about football."

When apprised of Small's comments, USC's Clay Matthews seemed to indicate that those words will be echoed inside the Trojans' locker room: "Coach Carroll does a great job of getting people excited about football," Matthews told the L.A. Times. "We've all bought into it, and it's been pretty successful."

I like how Clay Mathews responds by saying, "Coach Carroll does a great job of getting people excited about football." That's one way to try and deffend your program, just add too the point made by Small.

True.

Still, Ray has now gotten their attention, and he has 2 chances to back his statements up. Now he better make sure we win them both. No excuses.

Having said that, I like our chances.

Small earned a game ball against the Bobcats, in my book. He made some nice catches and the return sealed the win. Hope to see more of that going forward. :)

'Small' changes net big results for Buckeyes

By JON SPENCER ? Gannett News Service ? September 9, 2008

COLUMBUS - After Ray Small provided the only jolt of electricity in Ohio State's lackluster win over Ohio University, waiting on the sidelines with a handshake was assistant head coach Darrell Hazell.
"That's the Ray Small I know," Hazell said.
Small's 69-yard punt return touchdown was also a dead-on impersonation of the Ted Ginn Jr. fans came to know as a special teams terror in his three years with the Buckeyes. Ginn returned eight kicks for touchdowns for OSU, including six punts.
The fact that Ginn and Small are both products of Cleveland Glenville made comparisons inevitable.
"It was a lot of pressure following in his footsteps, but I kind of liked it because it was telling me that I had to step it up regardless," Small said. "I'm coming in and they're thinking I have to replace this man's shoes ... and it was great shoes to replace."
Small was one of the few Buckeyes to leave his cleatmarks on the Bobcats, whose shocking ability to hang with Ohio State is reflected in this week's national rankings. The 2-0 Buckeyes fell from third to fifth in the Associated Press and USA Today polls heading into Saturday night's showdown at No. 1 USC.

Lost in all the negativity of the USC game was another fine performance by Ray. He was a play maker for us and is showing the light has finally come on. This is huge for a team lacking in explosion on offense. Get the ball in Ray's hands more!

And Small finally learned how to make a fair catch instead of getting decapitated on punt returns. :)

Eh I recall Ray getting speared on one of those punts. I like his fiery attitude but he has to be careful to who he challenges or he might get carted off the field like he did on that screen pass back in '06.

Yes, he got decapitated again on the first punt return. I think from the third punt return forward, he learned how to make a fair catch.
