WR Ray Small (official thread)

Former Buckeye Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Updated: Friday, July 12 2013, 06:48 AM EDT COLUMBUS (Derek Drake) -- A former Ohio State football player faces over 30 years in jail after getting busted with drugs and guns.

Ray Small, former Buckeye wide receiver from 2006-2009, was arrested last night in Franklin County. A Franklin County Grand Jury had indicted Small on narcotics trafficking and drug possession charges, including a firearm specification.

According to the Franklin County prosecutor, Ron O'Brien, Columbus Police raided Small's Ferris Road apartment in April and found drugs and guns. Officials say they seized nearly $4,500 in cash, digital scales used in weighing drugs, over 400 Oxycodone and Alprazolam (Xanax) pills, and heroin.

Along with the pills, police also recovered a .380 semi-automatic handgun and an SKS assault rifle.

According to the prosecutor, Small no longer lives at the apartment, but a Detroit, Michigan man, Anthony Jones, was in the apartment at the time of the raid and was also included in the indictment with charges of trafficking and possession of Oxycodone.

O'Brien says if Small is convicted on all drug and gun charges, he could face 33 years in prison.

Small is currently out on bond, awaiting trial in Meigs County where he was arrested and charged on felony drug offenses last year. According to previous reports, Small was in possession of nearly 250 pills of Oxycontin, marijuana and a .25 caliber pistol.

So, how can Espin pin this on Urban?

Maybe it will go something like....

If JT had not put him in the doghouse, he would have had a better college career, with more experience, and made the NFL.

Urb did nothing as far as reaching out to him. Urb only cared about winning and getting paid, not reaching out to past players, or their feelings.

That is what happened in Florida when all those players were arrested.

Urb did nothing to help either Trayvon or George Zimmerman either. or the election scandal in Florida, or the crash of Florida real estate, and did nothing to stop the big Florida banks.

What a sad story.

Dude gets a full scholly to TOSU. Has all the talent in the world to at least be a wonderfully productive CFB player while earning his degree from one of the finest Universities in the country. Shit changes when the only color green that "dude" sees is money, and not the grass between him and the endzone.

Ray is an example of how pitiful the world of college athletics has become. Kids that have done NOTHING but be great high school players schedule press conferences to announce whose free education they're going to accept. Then go out and do nothing except fuck it up for for the entire time they're in school, while all the time their posse around them is telling him how great they are and, oh, by the way, don't forget about "me" when you strike it rich!

There has to be a better way, and I'm sure there is, but we'll never see it. This kid produced magical moments on the field while here. Let's NEVER forget that. He's in a real bad spot right now, so was MoC, and look how he's grown as a person. When Ray gets sentenced and imprisoned I hope that MoC goes and pays him a visit. He's still only 26 years old, and still has his entire life in front of him. No bad wishes here, even though he's kinda earned them. Ray is a player that we once cheered to help our team win games, and he did. In Buckeye land, the saying is simple, "Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye." Lets all please hope that Ray gets it together and goes on to lead a productive life!

Peace

Hate to say it, but when I saw Ray's name come up, I didn't expect it to anything good. Back in the day, Meigs county and Athens county were renown for what they grew in those hills. BTW, I'm not talking about Ginseng.

ray was busted with over 400 Oxycodone and Alprazolam (Xanax) pills, and heroin. that's a little different than being busted for weed

Re: (In 2008) Tressel confirmed that Small will not play when No. 12 Ohio State plays at Northwestern on Saturday. Team spokeswoman Shelly Poe said the suspension was due to a "repeated violation of team rules."

Small has been benched for Ohio State's games against Northwestern and Illinois for supposedly missing a class.
But Small's father, Ken Small, said he is mystified why his son is being suspended.

"They're intentionally trying to blow his career," Ken Small told The Associated Press by telephone from his home in suburban Columbus.

It has been no secret that Ray Small has continually been in and out of Tressel's doghouse for the past two seasons. His father said that the latest suspension stemmed from missing or being late for some classes and meetings. He also said part of his problems was parking tickets.

Ken Small cited several other recent legal transgressions by Ohio State players and compared them to the minor problems his son has had. One player a year ago was arrested for propositioning a female police officer posing as a prostitute. At least two players have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Ken Small said it was clear his son is being treated unfairly by Tressel.

"He had a couple of incidents, but he never got caught smoking marijuana before the national championship game. Or he never got a DUI, or picked up a prostitute. He was just late," Ken Small said. "And the punishment is you can't even go into the [practice] facility? They act like he's dangerous. These other kids ... didn't get banned from the facility. All they got was being sat down for the first few plays of a game."

I wonder who Ken Small is blaming for the "drug charges".

Just sayin': I wonder if things would have worked out differently (i.e. better) for Ray had he received some better parental advice/support back in 2008.
