How does a 6-2 200 athlete suddenly gets lumped into the TE/HB group? Kid looks like a prototypical outside WR to me.

But then again, I didn't have the foresight to predict Roy Hall's magnificent contributions at TE either. Guess some people are just better talent evaluators of TE than others.

Fred Davis is intrigued and would like to hear more.

Joking aside most sites have Noah listed in the 210-215 range right now. I'm sure most of the labeling is because Meyer's offense seems chock full of tweener positions. Get Brown on campus and his position will sort itself out.

I could see Noah thriving in many positions here but his balance and ability to catch the ball really stand out to me (aside from all of the attributes already listed here). You are not taking Noah down by chipping at his ankles or hitting him low...only wrap-up tackles will work. Honestly I would be ok with taking Noah and waiting to see on Luatua...we do not really need another pure TE with the young guys we have on our roster now. Would love to see Noah on board though...I really think he brings a skill set we do not have in this class or the class before.

Noah is being recruited as an X receiver per Urban's discussion with him yesterday (Givler's article).

He also won top Offensive Performer at at a Rivals camp this summer, a camp where he only worked out at WR. He is not an Austin Roberts, he is a WR. Not even sure how all of this TE talk was started.

I'll take partial responsibility. The TE/H-Back speculation is based on Austin Roberts committing to UCLA at the same time that Noah Brown was moving to the top of Ohio State's recruiting radar.

Given that they are the same exact size and the staff was recruiting Roberts at H-back, I read that series of events as Brown being higher up on the board, or at least an alternative to Roberts in the class at that position.

I never viewed Roberts and Gesicki as competing for the same spot and feel like Roberts was told to hold off on committing (if true) because a player like Brown was higher on their board at that spot (whether it be on the perimeter or at H-back).

Well from everything I have read they were competing. Roberts gained a lot of weight this offseason and the staff was extremely happy about it and he doesn't have top end speed (he is a 4.5/4.6 type of guy).

I mean the way the recruitment played out (Roberts drops USC, lock to OSU, Gesicki blows them away and is a freak athlete, Roberts magically goes to UCLA) supports this.

They were in direct competition for that spot, whereas Brown is being recruited as an X (again, Roberts quotes all indicate him being told he was a TE/H-Back and Brown's yesterday says point blank X).

The TE/H-Back depth is extremely good on this team. Just because Roberts and Gesicki aren't the exact same type of player doesn't mean they weren't in competition for the same offer. There isn't a need at TE/H-Back like there is at X receiver. If the staff thought Roberts could make the same impact as Gesicki they wouldn't have told him to come to FNL to earn a chance to commit.

Just look at how Heuerman and Vannett were used after Boren was moved. There is a ton of overlap in Urban's offense between those two positions.

I would love to see brown man the perimeter, as we don't really have a big WR on the roster outside of thomas, and urban hasn't brought one to the team, yet. Thanks for the insight e0y2. Since losing out on kief, we need a bigger WR to go with all the slot and pivots we've been bringing in. Brown is simply a beast

"The Buckeyes said I would be an 'X' receiver in their offense, someone who can occasionally line up in the slot to create mismatches against linebackers," he said of what the Buckeyes' plans for him. "They said I could also do some kick returning, but primarily they see me as a true, big 'X' receiver. I feel comfortable at that spot."

Here is an Austin Roberts 11W interview from after the Spring Game (this supports what Givler has said that I can't quote, obviously):

What did the coaches tell you?

They were all pretty pumped with how much bigger I've gotten over the last year. I was significantly smaller the last time they saw me. They also told me they want me to be the H-back they get in this class.

What did you think of the game itself?

I loved the atmosphere of the game and the energy the team brought. I also liked how they used their tight ends and used the H-back a lot.

Lastly, Gesicki doesn't do a ton of interviews but he ran a 4.52 at the OSU camp and was told by Meyer he had the best camp of the year. A kid that athletic (that also plays WR and in the flex in high school) can surely play H-Back/TE. It's not like he's some Fragel coming in.

Fair enough, although regardless of where he's being recruited at, I still think Brown has the versatility to line up pretty much anywhere on the field and be a matchup nightmare.

If be does choose Ohio State and he excels in the program I think he'll be used in different ways within the offense.

Though they're different sizes, both are just as dynamic with the ball in their hands. The way dontre Wilson is described as being used by Meyer, is I'm sure how he would use brown. Just get the ball in his hands to create a mismatch with a DB or LB. Not only does brown have very good speed for his size, but he has vertical leaping ability and ball skills that creates mismatches in his favor. He also runs with a violent manner that we haven't seen in a WR in a long time

The staff preferred Brown to Kief the minute they offered him. Kief was never very high on the X WR want list.
