Your obsession is creepy.

Well, if you have ever seen a fan site of a player, whoever runs it is the same way. I am no stalker, but think of it this way: Mike Furrey is like a team in the way you like Ohio State. May be hard to understand, but it happens.

I could see it if you were his nephew or son. But typically, this type of fandom is left for young kids that are fans of superstars, not average players that only a hand full of people know.

Your a Nats fan? Me too, Ryan Church is my fav. Yours?

I'm not a Nats fan. I'm a Clippers fan. The Clippers are now a Nats farm team. If the Reds/Cubs/Marlins/Devilrays/Mariners/Orioles hook up with Columbus, I'll change it when they fix the vPlaza.

I simply no longer watch most pro Sports.

WR Mike Furrey is dropped from Lions' roster
BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA ? FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER ? January 29, 2009

TAMPA -- A few NFL players stood on a temporary stage set up in the middle of a blocked-off, residential street Wednesday. They were there as part of a charity event connected with Super Bowl XLIII, helping volunteers build a playground for the neighborhood.

An official introduced them: Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys, Amani Toomer of the New York Giants, Mike Furrey of the Detroit Lions ...

But when Furrey's name was called, he looked down, smiled and said something to the guy next to him.

He wasn't a Lion anymore.

A few minutes earlier, he had hoisted a wooden beam on his shoulder and said: "They just released me."

Furrey was with his family at Metro Airport about 9 a.m. Tuesday, about to board a flight to Tampa, when his wife's phone rang. It was Lions general manager Martin Mayhew.

"He just said that he was calling the guys that he was going to release, and I was one of them," Furrey said. "That was it. Short. Very short."

It is unknown what other players Mayhew called. Mayhew was unavailable for comment. Teams officially can start releasing players Feb. 9 under NFL rules.

"No players have been officially released," team spokesman Bill Keenist said. "There have been some discussions with players and the front office as part of the ongoing evaluation process."

Receiver Furrey signs with Browns
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Perhaps anticipating that Donte Stallworth might not be available in 2009 because of the legal hurdles facing him, the Cleveland Browns signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Mike Furrey on Tuesday evening.

Furrey, who turns 32 later this month, is the second free-agent wide receiver to join the Browns this spring. Veteran David Patten signed earlier with the team. Cleveland also used a pair of draft picks on wide receivers, Brian Robiskie of Ohio State and Georgia's Tim Massaquoi, both selected in the second round.

Mike Furrey

The pace is furious, the fur is flying, and his name, Mike Furrey, fits fabulously.

That?s not even counting when Furrey?s kids, ages 1, 2 and 4, all are chirping at once in the car.

Diving to his new job with the Browns, Furrey, 32, has worked his way into such good shape that he ?feels like 25.? He spent Wednesday morning getting a physical at the Cleveland Clinic and is gearing up for Tuesday?s first full-squad practice.

Travels with Furrey

Mike Furrey was:

? A walk-on receiver at Ohio State in 1995. ?I never caught a pass there. I didn?t want to be a backup for four years.?

? A star at Northern Iowa, catching 242 passes for 3,544 yards and 27 TDs.

? An undrafted rookie in 2000 who didn?t stick with an NFL team until 2003.

? A lightly used wideout with the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL in 2001, then a star with the Arena League?s New York Dragons in 2002 and 2003. In ?03, he was leading the league in receiving yards (1,574) and touchdowns (46).

? An admirer of veteran wideout Isaac Bruce during three years with the Rams. ?Isaac is still going strong (with the 49ers). I learned from him. He approaches the game the right way.?

? A starting Rams safety for 11 games in 2005. ?I?d played a little cornerback in the Arena League. With the Rams, instead of dressing a fifth safety on game day, Mike Martz made me the fifth safety at first, and it became more than that.?

? A breakout player for the 2006 Lions, catching 98 passes for 1,086 yards. ?I believed in myself the whole time.?

Browns: Winding path leads receiver back home
Thursday, August 6, 2009
By Zach Swartz
The Columbus Dispatch

BEREA, Ohio -- Mike Furrey has a few reasons to be proud to be with the Cleveland Browns.

The 32-year-old receiver, signed as a free agent in May after three years with Detroit, has come full circle. He brings experience to a group of receivers lacking in it.

But what excites him the most is not leaving the only NFL team to go 0-16, it's being back in Ohio, his home state.

Furrey is a 1995 graduate of Hilliard Davidson, but with his family from Galion, about 95 miles southwest of Cleveland, he said he didn't have much choice but to be a Browns fan.

"Growing up two hours from here, you're right in the middle of the Browns and Bengals," Furrey said. "It's pretty neat to be home and to play for a team that you read about all the time in the paper and grew up watching on the TV. It's very exciting and humbling at the same time."

His path to the Browns -- and to the NFL -- was a winding one. After high school, he spent a year at Ohio State as a walk-on, then transferred to Division I-AA Northern Iowa. He graduated in 1999 after playing for three seasons and finishing second on the school's all-time receptions list.
