Made a nice leaping catch on the sidelines and showed excellent body control. He's a tall receiver with potential to add more bulk to his frame but he lacks ideal deep speed. More of a glider than a burner. Very smooth and builds speed as he goes but he did not display great initial burst. Biggest question is whether he can get deep this week against some of the fastest, most prolific cornerbacks in the country?

Tuesday (1/20/04): Jenkins had another solid day on Tuesday including a very good 7-on-7 period. He has displayed the most consistent hands of the skill guys and looks really smooth catching the football. What really impressed us through Day Two was his field awareness. He caught a number of deep outs on the sideline and got both feet in bounds on every occasion. Also did an adequate job of escaping press coverage and in the one-on-one period displayed enough deep speed to get behind Penn State's Rich Gardner.

Wednesday (1/21/04): Jenkins allowed a perfectly thrown slant ball to bounce of his chest for what we think might have been the first pass he dropped the entire week, which is pretty impressive. He by far has the best hands of any receiver in this game. He has kind of surprised us this week with what we consider deceptively better speed than his 40-time indicates and he would have had a nice long completion during the one-on-ones had John Navarre not overshot the throw. Jenkins has the most upside of the receivers on the North team, partly because of his size but mostly because of his consistency. If Jenkins is able to bulk up without losing any speed, he would be a good fit as a No. 2 possession receiver in the NFL.

Thursday (1/22/04): Jenkins concluded the full-speed practices with another solid effort. He made it through to Thursday's practice having only dropped one ball all week. He has great size but needs to bulk up and become better at escaping press coverage. He made a couple of nice catches in the red-zone drills this afternoon, including two fade routes, but Montana State's Joey Thomas won a jump ball against Jenkins on the first play of that drill.

<spacer type=block height=1>

SUMMARY

It can be argued that Jenkins helped himself as much or more than any other player at the Senior Bowl this week. After playing in a run-first offensive scheme at Ohio State, Jenkins was somewhat of an enigma as a pro prospect. The big thing everyone wanted to see from him this week was whether or not he could separate on a consistent basis against top cornerback talent -- and the answer is yes. He does not have great speed and will not run by many cornerbacks in the NFL. He also could stand to add some bulk and strength in order to give himself a better chance of breaking the press and holding up for a 16-game schedule in the NFL. But Jenkins showed very good route running skills, the ability to drop his weight and burst out of breaks without losing much in transition. He also had the best hands of any receiver here this week. Jenkins' performance could have propelled him into the late first round. If nothing else he's a lock as a second round pick, whom we believe can quickly develop into a solid No. 2 starting receiver in the NFL. We expect Jenkins to be drafted late in the first round or early in the second.

<spacer type=block height=1>

FINAL GRADE

A-
