WR Julian Fleming (transfer to Ped)

4. WR Julian Fleming

Physical talent - Julian Fleming has no shortage of that. He is learning the intricacies of playing wide receiver on a national championship team and he is learning from the best when it comes to college wide receiver coaches in Brian Hartline. Fleming is too talented not to see some action this season and with his explosiveness he could make some big plays.

WR Julian Fleming
Ohio State soon-to-be superstar freshman wide receiver Julian Fleming certainly isn’t lacking confidence. But after the win over Rutgers, Fleming could use a big bounce-back performance. Fleming, the No. 1 receiver in the 2020 recruiting class, could have probably scored a touchdown against Rutgers. But a could-be scoring pass from Justin Fields, which would have been Fleming’s first big play as a Buckeyes wide receiver, turned out to be a dropped pass over the middle that hit Fleming in the hands. The confidence and talent are still there for Fleming. The week off could provide a chance to regroup and make his mark as a freshman next week.

Apparently, one of Fleming's biggest plays in high school was when he was playing cornerback and tracked down an opposing receiver on the other side of the field and stripped the ball away, similar to what he did today on Fields' 3rd interception... We have a need at CB right now, maybe need to take a Gamble on him.

Julian Fleming willing to do whatever Buckeyes need to win
One of the most impressive moments of Julian Fleming’s high school career came when he wasn’t even playing wide receiver.

In one of Fleming’s three state title wins, he was playing defense when a slip screen on the opposite side of the field turned into a big gain. Fleming, playing cornerback, ran across the field at full speed to catch the ball-carrier, strip the ball away and regain possession for South Columbia High.

He’s a little big to be playing cornerback.

And this staff isn’t going to make any big adjustments. They’re gonna let the secondary keep struggling.

I dont see it changing... theres not one else to try and it's not 1 person like 2018 it's literally every single DB.

What this game shows it we how to at least slow down our offense but then also how to expose our defense.

I doubt we will lose the next 4 weeks but I'm terrified what this will mean for us in our first round playoff game.

FRESHMAN TRACKER: JULIAN FLEMING CHANNELS CLARETT AND JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA SNAGS A KEY CATCH

Fleming's impactful play also occurred on third down. At the 9:21 mark of the third quarter, Fields was scrambling for his life. The Georgia transfer found Fleming late in the play and threw a floater toward the middle of the field. Indiana's Jamar Johnson came down with the interception (his second of the day) and raced toward the end zone. Fleming channeled his inner Maurice Clarett and punched the ball out of Johnson's grasp.

WR Julian Fleming

With Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba both unavailable for the Big Ten title game, the wide receivers room lost some of its depth against Northwestern. That could have been a concern, but five-star freshman Julian Fleming stepped in and eased any worries early and often. Fleming caught four passes for 53 yards on seven targets, and after dropping the first pass thrown to him, he grew more comfortable in the outside receiver role. The Ohio State passing game didn’t look as good or normal as the Buckeyes are used to on Saturday, but Fleming provided a flash of the future — and maybe for the Sugar Bowl — when he filled in for Olave.

No. 3 Julian Fleming, WR, Ohio State

With a shortened schedule and a crowded wide receiver room, Fleming saw limited run during his first season in Columbus. He finished with 13 total targets – fifth on the team – good for seven catches for 74 yards. One thing to note with Fleming outside of his traditional stats: He excelled as a run blocker. Fleming drew a 80.8 run block grade, per PFF College, which ranked seventh among freshmen receivers.

“He’s been going through some things since high school medically that he needed to get cleared up, and he got it cleared up,” Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline said. “But it was pretty intensive. The kid is one of the toughest kids I’ve ever been around to operate at the level he’s operated at with a linebacker-strap on his shoulder to help protect that thing. Then to execute at such a high level, I think he’s a special individual.

Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming is getting healthy this spring.

“His size and speed combination are like I’ve probably never seen in college football. The development he’s had from last camp, if you will — whatever you want to call that — through the season to develop but also learn football and grow was really awesome. … I’m so excited for Julian. I think he’s a rock star as an individual, and I look forward to getting him back on a full-time regiment.”
