Jeremiah Smith is still in the running for college football's hallmark award for receivers.
On Tuesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation named Smith one of its 12 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award. The Ohio State receiver appeared on the list with Ja'Corey Brooks (Louisville), Harold Fannin Jr. (Bowling Green), Tai Felton (Maryland), Tre Harris (Ole Miss), Travis Hunter (Colorado), Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona), Nick Nash (San Jose State), Xavier Restrepo (Miami) and Ryan Williams (Alabama).

Ohio State's No. 1 receiver this season, Smith leads Zone 6 with 865 yards and nine touchdowns after 10 games. He and Emeka Egbuka also tied for the team lead in catches with 49. Egbuka was a preseason candidate for the Biletnikoff Award but was not selected as a semifinalist. The senior captain has recorded 612 yards and eight touchdowns from his 49 receptions this year.
Smith has broken all three Ohio State freshman receiving records this season, surpassing Cris Carter's yardage record against Penn State and Carter's reception and touchdown records one week later against Purdue. He has also been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice and is a semifinalist for Walter Camp Player of the Year and Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year.
Should Smith be named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award on Nov. 26, he will look to follow in the footsteps of Marvin Harrison Jr. by becoming the second straight winner from Ohio State. Harrison received the honor last season after collecting 67 receptions for 1,211 yards and 14 scores. Terry Glenn is Ohio State’s only other Biletnikoff winner, earning the award in 1995 after collecting 64 receptions for 1,411 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Big Ten Told Ryan Day Ankle-Twisting Tackle on Jeremiah Smith Should Have Been a Foul As He Awaits Official Ruling

Ryan Day received word from the Big Ten about Robert Fitzgerald's tackle on Jeremiah Smith this past Saturday. However, that word is incomplete.

On Wednesday, Day said the Big Ten responded to his appeal that Fitzgerald twisted Smith's ankle on the tackle. While the conference revealed Fitzgerald should been penalized for the move, it's still discussing the matter internally.

"I haven't heard much back other than it should have been a foul," Day said. "I know there's still some conversation there."

Fitzgerald's tackle on Smith occurred at the end of his 68-yard catch-and-run against Northwestern. As the Wildcats defensive back pulled Smith to the ground, he twisted the Ohio State star’s ankle.

Fitzgerald deleted his X account over the weekend after he received significant backlash from Ohio State fans.
