WR Jameson Williams (transfer to Alabama, Detroit Lions)

I'm conflicted with my thoughts on Williams(like many are). Olave and Wilson are the obvious leaders and most talented players in the WR room. But whenever Wiliams is mentioned, it's ONLY about his speed. He's become a one trick pony(though that's a great trick to have), and there are some young WRs behind him who seem more versatile and bring more to the table, but don't have his speed. So the question becomes, do you sit the player with immense speed for a player who you can move around at multiple spots(JSN), has more size and possibly better hands(Scott), or someone who's a combination of a higher end version of the last 2 examples(Fleming). Williams will be arguably the most intriguing player because what do you do with him? I thought a long time ago that he should be a PR or KR, but he's a guy who will be obviously rotated in and out with the aforementioned upcoming Soph class. Because the same mismatches he creates with his speed, Fleming/Scott can also create with their size, and I think JSN can create with his route running.

I truly feel Fields just didn’t look his way much..don’t think day helped him aswell with no crossing routes, jet sweeps, WR screens etc. simple combo routes. We all watched games where fields knew he was going to olave and or Wilson no matter what. Williams never complained and kept making as many plays as he could givin the opportunity.. I love him as our third option personally..the young pups are hungry thoe never a bad thing to have a healthy competition aswell. Go Bucks

day is for the most part — rightfully lauded for his offensive prowess but this was bewildering to me.

His consistency is a bit of a concern to me. Looks like he’s still prone to dropping easy passes and in a group like this i would say there really isn’t room for error like that.

gotta earn that trust when you’re facing an obvious passing situation on third down on the road — against a good opponent.

but then he goes and makes a nice catch on the boundary; so the talent is obviously there — just needs to be a complete product.

He'll be a change-up decoy/deep threat, not an every down player now, but I don't know that this is a bad thing for him. McLaurin and Dixon proved that.

Yeah, needless to say Olave and Wilson will get the most plays of all the WRs; however, I doubt that any WR will be an "every down guy". You know that they will rotate fresh bodies in the game at the WR positions and run lots of deep routes just to wear down the opposing DBs. When they see a DB gasping for air with his tongue hanging out; they'll go to a formation to isolate him one on one against a speedy receiver, call a play action pass, and throw the "bomb" to him.

I’ve been waiting to see that, I’m hoping that’s a consistent part of the game plans, it seems like it should be effective with the current depth at WR.

If not for Covid killing the off season, we probably would've seen it last year. But let's be honest, Fields was most comfortable with Olave, Wilson and Ruckert since he had little time to work with other WRs

100% this. With a shortened season, it was going to be Olave and Wilson all year. Not only was Fields only looking at those 2 for the most part, I think it was the staff's game plan and hell, who can blame them? But we did get a glimpse of what Jameson can do on a deep post against Clemson and I think we see some of that this season. JSN, Harrison Jr, Egbuka, Fleming, etc. will probably steal some grabs, but as mentioned Jameson brings another element with his speed that the other receivers don't quite have. There will most certainly be a role for that and with the likely departure of Olave and Wilson after this year, Jameson will probably get more of the spotlight.

And this is where I would disagree. I think after Olave and Wilson leave, I see Williams falling down on the depth chart. If he only offers speed, I think guys like Fleming, JSN, and Harrison Jr could be better on the outside. And it'll be a tough fight against Egbuka, who can find ways to get open, has speed and can make tough catches.

I don't see a scenario where Williams gets passed up after Olave and Wilson leave. Might happen this year but I don't see it getting worse when those two leave. While I think Jameson has an extra gear over Olave and Wilson by a little, those two are fast as hell. Most of the young guys are plenty athletic and obviously , but none of them are near the top end speed that Jameson has, or Olave or Wilson. I don't think all Jameson has to offer is speed...he is a better route runner than he gets credit for and has improved his blocking. He just needs to improve his consistency catching the ball and making the more routine plays imo. He is still early on in his stint here and I think while he is going to get all the competition he can handle, Jameson has a lot of to offer in our WR group.
