I don't think this kind of behavior is anything that we didn't/don't expect from Meyer and his staff. Just goes to show you that doing things the right way is The Ohio State way. Congrats on the commitment and I think this deserves a dancing Banana:groove:....or 2:groove2:

These days... everything is fair as long as you win NCs
Urban Meyer is a good coach. Maybe that's what it takes to win in SEC.

Agreed that he's a special defensive talent as well, and won't mind at all seeing him as a shutdown corner. However, it looks like Tressel is set out to find a shifty WR this year (Jackson and Fields are more of straight line speed types). Can't wait to see him in SG wherever he lines up.

another chris gamble? kid can flat out play at a high level on both sides of the field
Well, chris had a couple inches on James - I think the allusions to another FL (S.) receiver (Holmes) are closer to the parallel if he plays on O. (If he plays both sides of the ball, then your Gamble parallel is gold, no matter the height).

Anyway - welcome aboard James - another in a growing line of quality FL transplants to the Buckeyes.

(and now you can forget about Meyer thumbing his nose at you through the back pages of the FL papers, you're home).

Arg, I think GC screwed this one up. They shouldn't have broken this story. If everything happened behind closed doors Louis would've never been embarrassed like this....

They certainly didn't help the situation...and it's not the first time we've seen a website throw a wrench in the plans of a recruit by trying to be the first on the street with the scoop. It's a delicate game you play when you go public with info like that, whether it's accurate or not. One thing I like about the BPRt is that we've always tried to give a recruit his moment in the sun if that is what he wants or we've posted news only after we know it is okay to go live with it...

Andre DeBose had some of the most impressive film I saw last year and I was very disappointed to see him commit elsewhere. Seeing James compared to him has me ridiculously excited about this committment, and I haven't seen a second of film yet.

Unbelievable get. If he's the 26th WR in the nation, I'd like to see film of the other 25. Great job of recruiting by Taver Johnson.
Thought the same thing. Then when I compared his film to others and even certain recruits last year it was even more obvious...I think we found a VERY under rated kid (although he is on the UA - All-American squad).

This happens just about everywhere...I can't help but feel Muldoon go the same treatment last year. It's not really a "game" imo, it's business. I hate to see recruits get their plans ruined (especially by sites), but recruits often give verbals with the school counting on them, only to rescind and leave the coaches scrambling. Schools have to do what is best for their program. I can't really hold this against Meyer, as this happens a lot. Hopefully if the gators pursue later on he doesn't have second thoughts.

As for CB, I think he does have loads of potential there. If we land Joyner, I say play him WR though...I love the thought of just putting the ball in his hands and letting him loose.

I hope he has a fine career wearing the S&G.

Some times things do not work out as you had originally hoped, only to find out in the end that things worked out better than if the original plan had gone through.

I hope that this is one of those times. Good luck James.

OSU football notebook: Florida receiver commits to Buckeyes
Thursday, July 30, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Receiver James Louis of Delray Beach, Fla., turned some heads yesterday when he turned his back on his in-state schools and committed to Ohio State's 2010 recruiting class.

Louis, 5 feet 11 and 185 pounds from Atlantic High School, had offers from Florida and Florida State, as well as from Alabama, Georgia and LSU, among others.

"I didn't really want to stay in state," Louis said. "Ohio State has been the No. 1 team on my list for the past couple of months, so I just felt like today was the day for me to go public with it."

One reason the Buckeyes piqued his interest was their success in producing NFL receivers under assistant head coach Darrell Hazell.

"They've had a bunch of great receivers come out of Ohio State, like Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez," Louis said. "They've been coached by coach Hazell, who not only seems to be a very good coach, but a very cool guy. So I am looking forward to being a Buckeye."

Bill Kurelic, a recruiting analyst for Bucknuts and ESPN.com, was surprised by how early Louis committed.

"Without question he is one of the top wide receiver prospects from the South, and there were many who thought he'd eventually end up at Florida," Kurelic said.

Louis, the 10th member of the 2010 class, might be the only receiver in it. The Buckeyes are expected to have 16-18 commitments by signing day in February.

I haven't had the chance to watch the film yet, but will soon and will hopefully give an opinion. As others have said, I hope this commitment sticks. Seems like the kind of recruitment that has the most likelihood of not sticking...but that doesn't mean it won't.

I don't know about playing him at corner; from what I've read he sounds like gamebreaker at receiver. He's got the production to go along with what sounds like some obviously great talent.
