WR James Clark (transferring to Virginia Tech)

Scout - The Uncommitted

1/29

WR James Clark (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.)
James Clark was a fast riser this fall after a fantastic 2012 campaign. His senior film is as good as you will find out there in this class. Many of his suitors came on late in the process. This a Santana Moss type of receiver that has visited Ohio State, Purdue, Clemson, Nebraska and Northwestern. Clark may not be finished. He could make an unofficial visit to Gainesville this coming weekend and check out the Gators for the sixth time. If that happens Florida will be in the game. Clark looks best suited in a spread and you can?t help but wonder if he will ultimately pick the Buckeyes or Tigers. What happens or doesn?t happen this weekend could play a big effect in his decision. Look for Clark to narrow things down to three schools before he makes his decision.

Does the Smith commitment end the recruitment of Clark?

I think the upcoming Florida visit has more to do with the recruitment of Clark than the commitment of Smith does.....

@davebiddle

Just recorded a great interview with James Clark for our podcast. #Buckeyes are definitely very much in the running for the WR recruit.

Clark says of the Corey Smith commitment: "It doesn't change my recruitment at all. The OSU coaches told me it was gonna happen."

Which makes sense considering Clark and Smith will be two years apart in eligibility and might not even play the exact same position.

Yeah, I do too. Hope I am not reading too much into it but you can certainly take from it that he expected great things and was on his way to being sold and, thankfully, wasn't disapointed when seeing it in person. I really like our chances with him.

NSB's Clark hopes to make silent commitment Sunday

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- James Clark said he hopes to decide where he will play college football by the end of the weekend.

The New Smyrna Beach wide receiver will take his final trip -- an unofficial visit to Florida Saturday -- before Wednesday's National Signing Day. And he said he hopes to give a silent commitment to either Florida, Northwestern, Clemson, Nebraska or Ohio State on Sunday.

He just hopes he can keep that commitment quiet until signing day.

?Hopefully,? Clark said Thursday night. ?That is the plan.?

But Clark said he was heading to Florida still trying to decide which school would be the best fit for him.

?Right now, I have a good idea,? he said. ?But I feel like I should hold off a little before I announce it.

?Some of my close family members have a little bit of an idea,? he continued. ?I?ve hinted who my top three were to them. But people ask me, and my answer is ?I wouldn?t be taking the official visit to Florida Saturday if I knew for sure.??

Clark said he will be looking at several things on his visit to Florida.

?They are a great school,? he said. ?I just want to see what they have to offer other than what they have shown me so far.

?I'm looking to see more of the academic side of what they can offer me after football. I want to see the facilities, and campus-wise I just want to see the environment.?

Clark visited Ohio State last weekend and said he enjoyed himself.

?It was great,? he said. ?It was a great campus and a pretty good weekend.?

Not to read too much into things, but I believe he is spending the night in Gainesville tonight after the basketball game and will still be at Florida on Sunday.

With him now saying he wants to make a silent commitment on Sunday...hard to not connect those dots and think he may commit to Muschamp tomorrow.

We will see though. Seems like a heck of a player and would provide a bit of a missing element to the OSU offense if Urban can pull off the upset.

I wouldn't put too much stock into it. He's said for a while now that he was going to silently commit to the school he chose before signing day and then actually announce at the ceremony.

You may be right, but doesn't the fact that he is on the campus of one of his favorites the day he is planning to make his silent commitment a little bit worrisome?

Sure, he could call the OSU coaches on his way home from Gainesville and commit. Or he could do it face to face with the UF coaches. The timing just lessens my optimism a little bit. He could have silently committed to OSU on his visit last weekend or during the visit from coaches a few days ago if OSU was where he was leaning.
